GT6 Direct Capture HD Gameplay Footage from TGS 2013

Gran Turismo 6 competition was held at Sony’s booth during last month’s Tokyo Game Show, where Super GT driver Juichi Wakisaka took on three “gamer” challengers.

PlayStation Japan has just published video from the event which contains high-quality, directly-captured gameplay footage in 1080p. Although the video is entirely in Japanese, you can skip ahead to the following timestamps to see the gameplay action:

  • (11:08) – Honda weider HSV-010 at Suzuka
  • (19:43) – BMW Z4 GT3 at Silverstone
  • (26:44) – Chevrolet Corvette Stingray ’14 at Matterhorn

Thanks to Saidur_Ali and Lord Protector for the tip!

Wow, this looks and sounds pretty bad. After how impressive the pre-rendered Bathurst video was this is an unfortunate crash back to the reality of putting the next generation game on seven year old hardware. Sony to PD “Hey Kaz, we need a new version of GT-6 to release alongside the PS-4”. Kaz to Sony, “No problems boss” :-)

    1. jhw93

I don’t see the big issue with it being on PS3, I think it looks fantastic for a PS3 game. People don’t appreciate the fact that GT6 runs at 60fps @ 1080p, most games on PS3 run at 30fps @720p resolution. If Polyphony Digital wanted, they could have made GT6 run at 30fps @ 720p that way they would have had more polygons to work with and etc but to PD, 60fps is key. It is key because 60fps provides smoother gameplay over 30fps, this means 60fps is vital for a simulation, especially when you want to convey a high sense of speed that requires fast reactions from the player. I am not the most technically minded of people but I understand the reason why the tracks lack ‘nice trees’ and other details is because its running at 60fps, to achieve that requires cut backs regarding poly counts of 3D models within the game environment. Despite the lower poly counts of the tracks, GT6 is an amazingly pretty game and looks better than it’s rivals on the same gen platforms in my opinion. The fact that GT6 is getting compared to next gen racing games is simply a compliment to the game. PD are also wizards when it comes to the visuals of the game anyway, especially when they have now added ‘adaptive tessellation’, what this does is augment the polygonal structure of the 3D models in real-time to make them appear that they are made of more polygons than they actually are, this is something not even considered on PS3/360 gen consoles before. You also need to consider the lighting engine they have added which for me completely changed the autumn ring track. FM5 runs at 60fps @ 1080p on xbox one people say…. nothing new I say.

  2. Hentis

Don’t give a toss about the sounds. Looking forward to racing at brands, mount panorama and using the new course creator.
If people are so anal just complain about the sounds than let them. I couldn’t give a monkeies left testicle if they buy the game or not.

    1. Johnnypenso

People are anal because they care about accurate car sounds in a car game? God forbid a car sounds something even remotely like it’s real life counterpart and not something from a 1998 videogame…oh wait…

    2. Johnnypenso

Why would you respond with something that has nothing to do with my response and something I have never said?

    3. sayba2th

Hahahahahaha – Oh one loves when Karma is on display, many thanks TD you have made my day.

@ JP, TD has taken from your post that you meant the sounds on GT5 presently sound the same as back as when GT was released in 1998 “God forbid a car sounds something even remotely like it’s real life counterpart and not something from a 1998 videogame”, That’s the 15 years ago and “…oh wait…” which was taken as oh wait they haven’t – Yet they did with the Weider HSV-010. That’s why he posted and to a degree you have.

However yes we all would love them to sound like the real life counterparts JP, we have already discussed and know where we both stand on this, as many others have as well.

@ MuoNiuLa of course sound is part of what makes the awesomeness and beauty of cars. I am all for it being improved just not something for me a deal breaker considering I liked what I played of GT6 physics wise.

    4. sayba2th

@ JP, so you only want one car in the game to sound like it’s real life? Which one do you want it to be hmmmm? or If you didn’t mean that then you must be talking about “all” cars. Flawed logic – better yet why it was Karma went straight over your head, but then again I expected as much.

    5. PsuPepperoni

Its like going to see a Jurassic park movie and the T-rex’s roar is some girl saying “grrrr!”. You can’t be properly immersed in the movie after that. The first car in this video sound almost exactly like a kazoo.

In 2004, an arcade racer called Need for Speed Underground 2 was released with near perfect engine sounds. Nine years later, we have advanced to the point of listening to New Year’s Eve noise makers. Wait, what?

    6. Johnnypenso

^^^Well said Pepperoni. I always find it amusing that the fanboys always roll out the HSV as their example of how great a job PD can do with sounds, completely ignoring the other 1000 cars in the game, many of which sound horrible in comparison to their real life counterparts. For every HSV, there are a few dozen vacuum cleaners I could haul out…oh wait those are GT5 car sounds…lol..

    7. MrSkyline

Sound is one of the most important elements of a car, having that spine tingeling sensation when you hear a V12 engine rev to 8k rpm, that’s special. I’m fine with the fact that games don’t come close to the real thing, but Test drive unlimited on the PS2 had better sound than any GT Gran Turismo game including all i have seen from GT6. The sound sucks realy hard, and GT6 will be the first GT game that i will not buy, with every other GT game i have waited in front of stores for them to open, i have taken days/weeks off from work to play them, and the only thing i can’t stand is the quality of the sound. And since there are lots of alternatives, i will get my fix somewhere else until they manage to fix this for some reason impossible task.
It’s not just my opinion, is share it with many others. The quality of the sound is the most talked about problem of the GT series, i don’t know if kaz has gearsticks in his ears, or if translator san just doesn’t know how to translate this issue, but they should change the sound.

  3. DBalog

Disappointed, looks like piece of s..t! Tarmac, edges of track, lines on the end of track, seems like they made this game 3years ago. I ordered it, first day, not so excited any more.

Love the series, I hope for the best but gt6 looks like arcade 2me

  4. SnakeOfBacon

Oh enough about sounds already, NEW DAY/NIGHT CYCLES, seriously people, racing overnight at Autumn Ring, Daytona etc. is going to kick arse.

    1. frivoloushobby

I must confess I’ve owned GT5 for years and only recently tried an overnight race ha ha ha. It was pretty cool and the little details come through; like brake lights illuminating tire smoke and glowing brake discs. Can anyone tell me if the day/night options will be available on all tracks or just a handful like on GT5?

    2. HarVee

Only one a handful of them. Most of the new tracks announced for GT6 are getting time change, though I’m doubtful a majority of existing tracks got updated with this feature.

  5. Steph290

More important than the obsessive need for better sound or graphics is my need for subtitles! I wish I would’ve taken the time to learn Japanese.

  6. WingZeroCustom

Man the Corvette sounds good. More muscle sound to it. Game play looks good. Can’t wait till I get my hands on it!! *Grins*

    1. Tenacious D

Say that in the forum, and get ready for a pillow fight. It’s not politically correct to like Gran Turismo’s sounds.

Like I really care. I’m looking forward to this awesome game. You guys can grouch on the forums all day while we lay down tracks and have more fun. ;D

  7. sangdude82

Let’s wait until we get a update for the sounds. If the sounds hasn’t been improved much, then we can complain all about it. For everything else, let’s wait until we get to play the game. We only have 44 days to go…

    1. research

actually PepeMickey is more right than wrong, and we need more people to speak up like paulpg87.

Gran Turismo is low on fun. VERY few people like to sit there and run time trials, but everyone likes a great battle with competitors on a track, whenever they want, online and/or offline.

  8. super_gt

nice show but for kids,it”s not fun to drive massive understeering cars,to fight with the car to put in to the corner, most real cars understeers but not so much,in this video racing super gt driver miss all corners apex wow he can”t drive or GT physics and real physics not fit together, wheels spin also is forgiving 70% simulation+30%arcade=100%simcade!GTpro is gut idea all to physics no compromise 100% simulation,I pay 100 euro for this

    1. Pit Crew

Actually the video doesn’t tell the viewer who’s screen is being shown between the 3 contestants and Juichi Wakisaka, though it’s easy to assume from the process of elimination that’s clearly occuring, the bad laps belong to the event participants.

    1. TokoTurismo

And I like how its a big deal to you caring about people crying about people whining about blah blah blah……

    2. Pit Crew

It’s no use TokoTurismo. I know it’s difficult but ignoring these comments, as they are becoming prevelant in this blog over the last 14 hrs, is the best way to go. I’m personally learning this myself. Let them have their say over and over and over. Eventually someone has to be the Bigger Person and just let it go.

I love the video for how much fun they had, jovial trash talking and the announcer and crowd really ate it up. Focusing on the good will really go along way in keeping the news blog from looking a hatefilled rant box, and if there’s not much good to be found for some news, and it does happen, just stick to the facts that apply.

    3. BWX

Pit Crew telling it’s no use to TokoTurismo crying about Magic Ayrton crying about People crying about people whinging about people whining about these terrible engine sounds.

I’m just laughing at all of you because GT is dead… Kaz killed it.

    4. Pit Crew

BWX Mind your business as I don’t recall ever voicing my opinion about the mess you’ve been posting concerning GT5 since before It released (4yrs and counting same argument same poster) and you still bought it, so you should worry about what comments come your way, based on your posts, not what I say to TokoTurismo.

    5. Magic Ayrton

@BWX Genius!!! lol Well, when it’s more fun in the comments section than GT5 or 6 for that matter, things are getting bad eh.

Well, we can all decide when someone gets their hands on GT6 before release, as usually is the case these days.. People will have time to cancel pre orders.

  9. CodeName

the cars are looking so much better! I see they received a very good treatment! They look way cleaner and detailed… I’m sure it is because of the adaptive tessellation!

    1. TokoTurismo

Nope. This is Gran Turismo [6]. :) Whatever you do, don’t be like those people who say this is GT5.5, they’re crazy.

    2. TokoTurismo

^ HAHAHAHAHA no, that won’t work either… I like how when other games hardly have anything new, they could get away and be called “new”. But when its GT, no it can’t. Maybe because its too popular.

    3. kekke2000

I dont care what it is as long as it has GT in front of it!! 5.1, 5.5, 5.6 or 6. It’s still awesome!! :D:D

    4. Magic Ayrton

now, if they could just make the engine and cockpit, plus tyre squealing sounds more authentic and in..

5.1 surround (lol) I’d be a lot happier.

  10. Dude27

OMG… the sounds… Poor cars to get this awful treatment! Now I have to start DTM Demo again by Simbin, [few seconds later] Ahhhhhhhhhhh YESSSSS so much better!!!! You hear PD? YES, it is possible to have AWESOME AMAZING engine sound INGAME (i.e.. NOT dubbed). So get your heads out your arse and CODE THEM PROPERLY!!!! Could someone send a link to the DTM demo to PD??

    1. liv4hardstyle

Dude27 you wouldn’t know a real engine sound if it slapped you in the face and took a dump in your fridge. Vast majority of games these days exaggerate the sound to appeal to the masse’s (you). Although I admit gt5 had some short comings in the sound department, they did not pollute their game with “awesome amazing” lies to make you satisfied with your fantasy cars. Oh, and they still sold millions of copies of the game.

Listen to the corvette in this video, it’s stock and it sounds like it should. Not an off tits nascar that is taking off into the stratosphere. Gran turismo is not about sugar coating the truth, if you can’t handle that then pick up a copy of forza and join the children.

    2. Johnnypenso

Really? Because there are videos on Youtube comparing the Simbin DTM cars in the game to real life and they are nearly indistinguishable sound wise. Most people could not tell them apart if they closed their eyes they are that close. Think before you speak next time please.

    1. Steph290

Did this guy just seriously compare PS3 hardware to the 8th gen Xbox One and gaming PC’s? C’mon dude, really how much more can you ask for out of a PS3?

    2. BWX

I can ask for there never to be another GT to be released on old crappy PS3 outdated hardware.

Oh well.. that one isn’t coming true. I guess it doesn’t matter because GT sucks now anyway because it got away from its roots and just tries to follow the crowd. PD doesn’t have the man power or organizational skills to even do that right, and Forza is blowing by GT in a very huge and sad way.

    3. TokoTurismo

Oh hush up already BWX. I remember you saying you’re going to PC sim racing and will never return back to GT. Yet here you are blabbering about it again. I don’t understand why anyone will want to take you seriously, you just come off sounding like a GT hater, nuff said.

  11. GRAN_TURISMAN

I could care less about engine sounds! The only people concerned with how the grass looks are probably the people that drive through it on a regular basis. lol I just want to race! Hurry up 12/6/2013

  12. Tacobell18

Using placeholder sounds as an advert…. Im probably the 1000th here thats complaining but im sure they wont update it right on the release so doesnt that give it a first bad impression of the game for people that are new to the GT franchise?

  13. Tyger

Again, some of you are reading way way too much into the sounds in this clip. The video is a direct feed when they are doing their laps, but the audio clearly isn’t, the game sounds are way down in the mix behind the presenter, competitors, audience etc. It is a TV show, after all. This is best evidenced by the intro music to the lap which is quiet and lacking in bass, not because Kaz put bad low-fi music in the game but because that’s how it’s mixed for the show. I think the background music is even on during the laps, but you can barely hear it. I’m not saying the game will necessarily have great sound on release, but it’s ridiculous to base any criticism on this.

    1. Magic Ayrton

Please PD, the people defending the terrible sounds, leave them with the sound that they love. Just update those who aren’t happy with it. Thanks :-)

  14. Darkpitiless

Why are they so excited and so happy? They’re just making a joke out of themselves. That Z4’s sound was completey a very bad joke.

    1. sayba2th

I don’t get statements like that, what are you a such badass that you ice grill everyone all day? They were some having fun and enjoying themselves – something apparently have no concept of being able to do. By the sounds of you need to stop wearing jeans that cut the circulation off to you brain, add some colour to your wardrobe, lose the black hair dye and cut that damn fringe so you can see properly then life may not seem so Dark & pitiless

    2. Johnnypenso

^^^ Why roast the guy for telling the truth? You think that Z4 sounds like the real car? You think it sounds like it belongs on the same track as the real car? The same continent? The same planet? It’s a completely different sound, completely unrelated to the actual car. If you can’t hear that, and don’t understand why it’s important to people you should step away from commenting on GT for a while until you gain some perspective.

    3. sayba2th

JP take your own advice, Read my post again I was not commenting on the sounds of the Z4 I was talking about the op bagging the guys in the vid for having fun and in his eyes making jokes out of themselves. So step away yourself.

  15. nismo n13

Anyone else notice the motorbike style grid stripes on the start/finish line of Matterhorn?
Tourist trophy 2 maybe in the works?

  16. PepeMickey

Can’t believe that people are actually defending PD, Kaz says a lot of things and this time he’s not even sure about his statements so I wouldn’t expect any kind of improvement in GT6, not now, not at release, not ever. Sounds might, ”MIGHT” be better by the time GT8 comes out so I might not bother with the franchise anymore. I’ll vote with my wallet.

    1. TokoTurismo

I’m not attempting to defend anything. Despite the “might” being said out, at least Kaz is aware of the problem, and should have PD taking care of it. I remember him saying he won’t be talking about it either before its ready, so no promises were made to create disappointment. But please don’t go assuming the sounds will be ready till GT8, that’s just being fustrated over one little issue…

Anyways whatever, you’re voting your wallet, good for you. I’m sure others are doing that too but not the majority.

    2. sayba2th

“We’re still in the process of making the engine sounds, so I’d rather wait and comment on that after it is complete.”

This was his statement, that tells you that they are being worked and will be implemented, now I am certain that the barrages of 3 degree burn victims will be hollering “Oh he has said a lot in the past that has not happened” and the examples will be listed. Look this has become a fairly (major for some) point and lets face it we all want improved engine sounds and exhaust notes, it just to varied extents. I am certain this will definitely be addressed and rectified as Kaz and PD are only too well aware of what a major point this has become. Myself I am at the lesser extent if it is or isn’t, it will not be the lynchpin in swaying my decision of my already pre-paid pre-order purchase copy of GT6

    3. Magic Ayrton

I agree, it’s not the fact that they are do something about the sounds, it’s their inability to correct longstanding issues relatively quickly.. I mean they do have the budget and therefore should have the task force to deal with this deal breakers.. I am being very cautious this time round as are many many other people I know.

Just look at GTA V – very very addictive game, they have clearly the know how and expertise you would expect from a long established franchise like Rockstar Games, and have spent their budget accordingly..

Something is up with this reluctance for making sounds better, maybe they think that if they do that in GT7 on PS4 for example it will help sales.. snail pace development :(

    4. HuskyGT

Whining for $60 bucks? Come on… You are like Toko’s evil twin from a parallel universe, milking every possible little excuse into why Gran Turismo is so bad and not worth buying. GT6 might not be the game you want, but it’s still worth every penny if you’re a genuine car enthusiast. Most games offer you like only a couple of weeks worth of game play for the same kind of money. GT, with all its negatives that people like to find, outlasts pretty much everything else.

Besides, there might not be any console racing game worth playing for a while before GT7 is out. Forza 5 looks amazing, but unfortunately it’s in the wrong console. Spending $500 for just one game, now that’s worth whining for.

  17. sayba2th

*SMH* Well we certainly didn’t need to find out previously whether or not Kaz has a wife. It would appear that he has many and they reside here in these articles with all the “nagging” about the freaking sounds. As stated countless times before, he knows, they know, we know that these are being worked on for patching after the release. Can we please move on to a new topic as this record is well and truly broken.

Great to see all involved having some fun on the vid, things are looking nice for all those who complain about the driving there is much better showings here. Loved the “serious” ice grilingl Juichi Wakisaka served to the guy who beat him and the sportsmanship shown at the end.

    1. Magic Ayrton

      – 1000

No we won’t.. we are unhappy with it.. so just like in politics, we speak up when something is wrong. Next question?

      Nagging isn’t the issue.

    2. Johnnypenso

Some people just don’t know what a “discussion” or “debate” is, and when they are losing, must resort to name calling and assigning negative character attributes to the people on the other side of the argument. If you have a rebuttal state your case and defend it. When you start to try and shout down the other side with barbs and insults, which the Kaz/PD fanboy/defenders often do, you have lost.

    3. Swagger897

      @ Magic Ayrton

I dont know how long you have been on GTplanet but it seems to me it hasnt been quite long enough to understand what this part of the site is about. Like i have said to many others who troll the site, looking to be fed by positive criticism, only to be cyclical towards everything good and new, having no interest in what could be improved by showing a proper thesis, there is a forum for you.

In that forum, you can bring up what parts you think should be resolved, just like they are in “politics”. Assuming (and I could care less if im wrong) that your name references to Ayrton Senna, from Brazil, you dont have much to show of how your government can handle situations that need be fixed. Or, since your english is some how amazing for a country which speaks Portuguese, You could be from America, where most trolls are from since they are given everything they cry for. I too am from the USA, and our government is a total laughing stock. There isnt much of a correlation between government and a video game.

Nagging is defined as “To be a constant source of anxiety or annoyance”. You sir, are included in that definition, by the fact you are an anxiety that we are left to dealt with, in order to promote the positives we have achieved so far, and show the negatives and how they can be taken into account with multiple solutions.

My solution for you is to leave the discussion part of this site, and create your own forum, where you can bring up all the negatives that are in the dictionary, explain what they are in the game, and scream it out loud and proud that you hate all about everything.

You have shown absolutely nothing positive towards the GT series, and show no where as how to improve something that should be fixed in game. You dont have to have a degree in computer science to know how it could be fixed. All you need to do is show positive feedback, rather than criticize those who take the time to show where areas could be improved.

Apparently you also dont understand that this is also the worlds largest simulation racing game for consoles. With this, much thought must be taken into account before an action is taken, otherwise, GT5’s 10 million copies sold would mean nothing if areas were changed against consumer appeal. Numbers dont lie my friend, the math is the math.

    4. Magic Ayrton

@ Swagger, member or no member, my opinion is my opinion and nothing will change that. I appreciate the lengthy reply but I haven’t time to read it all, sorry.

    5. sayba2th

@ Johnnypenso, I am well aware of what a “discussion” and a “debate is and this is not that. Lets face it when the same thing gets posted time and again about a known issue or problem then that my friend is nagging, this is what wives / gf’s do when their husbands / bf’s don’t do what they have asked them to in the time frame that they want or expect. Unless you are blind this whole page has just become that, a nag fest. Insults and barbs hardly…..

    6. Johnnypenso

      ^^^Pot meet kettle…because this:

“when the same thing gets posted time and again about a known issue or problem then that my friend is nagging, this is what wives / gf’s do when their husbands / bf’s don’t do what they have asked them to in the time frame that they want or expect:

…is exactly what you are doing with your responses.

    7. sayba2th

JP I you need to stop interpreting what I say with your own rhetoric you clearly don’t read my posts completely therefore lack the comprehension skills to understand what’s been said.

    8. sayba2th

JP You don’t even make any sense with that comment, you’ve interpreted wrong before on another post of mine and you have done it again. But I am sure you will come back with one of your “no you are comments” as a rebuttal.

  18. JTB10000

Kaz said he and his team are working on the sounds and pretty much everything else that’s being complained about. We’ll just have to trust him until we know for sure. It’s that simple.

    1. hyyperactive

I don’t think he has ever said that. Here is the exact quote about the sounds:

“I think I mentioned this in the past, but we’re really working to change the fundamental way that the engine sound works,” Kazunori Yamauchi said during a press session at Polyphony Digital’s Tokyo office. “Right now I have a feeling that it might not make it for day one for GT6.”

When pressed on updating the sounds via update, Yamauchi responded that “There’s a good possibility that we might do this.”

    2. sayba2th

Here is the quote you are probably looking for “We’re still in the process of making the engine sounds, so I’d rather wait and comment on that after it is complete.”

  19. Mr C5 Z06 Vette

Off topic but does anybody know which is better, actionreplay max or gameshark v 2.0? Because i want to get the lambo diablo jgtc and the porsche 911 gt3 in gran turismo 3. I’d like to know what is better value for money and easier to use. Thanks.

  20. MPH1995Deniz

The engine sounds will be updated completely in a large game update when the game is released. Normally the game discs start being produced about 1 month before the release date, so before anyone says ‘why don’t they put them in on the last few days before release if their going to put them in when the game comes out’, well thats why. In this video, the BMW is one of those cars using a temporary sound currently used on another BMW which I beleive is taken from an M3.

    1. TokoTurismo

“The engine sounds will be updated completely in a large game update when the game is released.”

I wouldn’t really hold on too much hope for that to happen though. :P

    2. Johnnypenso

Wrong. Unless you’ve got a source I’m not aware of you completely made that up. Quote: “When pressed on updating the sounds via update, Yamauchi responded that “There’s a good possibility that we might do this.” MIGHT do this, not WILL do this, big difference. No mention of a time frame at all, just that it MIGHT be done. And it MIGHT NOT be done, and it MIGHT NOT be ready until GT7 and it MIGHT NOT be ready then either.

    3. Tacobell18

^I think with that he meant that theres a good possibility that they’ll update right after the release. Dont know.

    4. Johnnypenso

So you think he meant something completely different than what he said? Interesting take on things…lol.

    5. Pit Crew

^ Exactly as Johnnypenso said. Furthermore No information exists that i’ve seen that states what specific duties each update will conform to, just that updates will begin launch day.

    6. Magic Ayrton

You just made that up.. like Politician’s I have read several different replies from Kaz and they get more and more translucent every time.. these sounds will disappear completely into think air once all the suckers have bought the game no doubt.

    7. Swagger897

you got a source where he/she made that up? I quite sure politicians just say, “hey uh.. we need this in my state/county/town because uh… we think it would look cool.”

no. there are things called numbers, surveys, polls, sit downs, board meetings, and many more before something is thrown into the public. Your political world seems to me to be quite dysfunctional.

    1. sayba2th

AJ he maybe referring to the red above the E and didn’t notice where the gauge was at, only explanation I can come up with or think of….

    1. another_jakhole

GT5 still only has the prototypes. The road car will be in GT6 though. I was hoping the prototypes would be in GT6 and the test “camouflage” version will be in. I’m happy about that!

  21. TokoTurismo

All I’m going to say is Kaz specifically said him and PD are aware of the sounds, and are working to release an update for it. That’s all I’m going to say at this point. No need to shout, insult, nothing more. It just depends on when now which is a little concerning, but doesn’t really bother me much since there are fetures like livery editor that needs adding too you know? Something that people wanted since “GTHD”?…

I just want the game already.

    1. HarVee

“That’s all I’m going to say at this point.”

Then why did you continue to blab on & on about what is essentially nothing?

    2. TokoTurismo

Because it’s obviously true, not kidding. You can ignore it if you want (which I assume otrhers would), so I don’t really care what gets thrown my way. Whatever.

    1. sayba2th

and they all know ninjitsu, origami and are members of the Yakuza

Any other stereo types you wish to add to the list?

I am surprised after the Bathurst vid from the Sydney EB show that someone did say I bet everyone there has a Kangaroo in the car park cooking shrimps on a Barbie (BBQ)

  22. mobiletone

with DriveClub pushed to 2014 i’m grabbing GT6 instead as it comes out a week after the PS4, i hope they’ve improved the AI and matchmaking in Arcade to make the races at least a bit of a challenge. GT5 was way to easy to beat that’s why i went over to Forza 4, that was a much better all round experience getting through the 10 year racing series.

  23. chase94

I don’t really think the sounds are that bad. However some sounds are just wrong. Like the BMW. It is a roaring V8 in real life ,but in this game (as of now) it sounds like some crappy ricer with an over sized muffle.

  24. Nomadpt1

    Sounds
Honda Weider HSV-010: very good, don’t need to change
BMW Z4 GT3: awful, the usual GT sound
Chevrolet corvette c7: Meh, don’t sound very good

    1. TomBrady

      Agreed.

I just don’t get why no one has faith that they’ll patch it. They’ve patched sounds before, they’ve also nailed the sound on some cars (LFA, Zonda 7.3, etc.).

I don’t have an issue with waiting for patches. Look at everything we got in patches for GT5.

    2. Nomadpt1

I have faith in a patch but at the same time it is a shame that a new car to the series like the Z4 GT3 doesn’t have a proper sound at release. If they fix it in a 6 months period it will be good

    3. masterrawad

they claimed that they are going to release a later update that will make all the sounds pretty, but we’re talking like at least a year’s wait for this.

  25. ferm65

People saying “oooh, it’s not about the graphics, or the sound or whatever”.

Well, a game is a whole package. And sounds, specially, make everything work better, the immersion experience is way better with sounds that actually… err… sound like a car. Sounds are part of the experience, as if graphics and physics. Sounds and graphics without physics is worse than graphics and physics without sounds, but that doesn’t mean we should get away with only 2 of those. We should get the 3 !

None can deny that the sounds in Gran Turismo has been no other than rubbish. Graphics are good, the game is good, but the sounds, not at all.

So why wouldn’t people complain? or more to the point, why CAN’T people complain? I love my Gran Turismo, but I’d love it more if the sounds were better.

There are probably a lot of explanations about why Polyphony can’t solve this issue. Might be something with the hardward that limits them. Whatever the reason, you can’t expect people not to complain about it when it’s a clear fault…

    1. TomBrady

The problem is you people are acting like the sounds are unbearable when there’s nothing further from the truth. They’re mediocre, but not terrible. I’ve played plenty of racing games with worse sounds, and they weren’t all from last gen either

You people are probably the same ones who race like bumper cars, and use racing soft tires 24/7. Gran Turismo is about car collecting, racing, and driving realism. So what if the sounds aren’t great? The physics are, and that’s what affects the game the most. Gameplay > graphics > sound

    2. MLRSparco

@TomBrady So because we want decent sounding cars we’re somehow little kids? lol wow,I’m not saying the sounds are unbearable but they definitely need to be looked at,if you’ve watched any GT trailer you should be able to tell the trailers usually sound a whole lot better than actual gameplay sounds, that should tell you right there that there’s something wrong here.I don’t understand why there’s always a need to attack the people that say the sounds need to be fixed,How about we just agree that the sound in the game do need to be looked at,the fact that Kaz said himself that they’re working on fixing the sounds tells you right there that the sounds aren’t perfect and need to be redone. The fact that I can’t compare any games car sounds to GT5 is an issue, not Forza,NFS,Dirt,iRacing,Rfactor,or LFS.

    3. DYLAN777-is-not

I agree 100%! Sounds are huuuuuge. Good graphics are just a standard in videos now a days. So when you play a sim game the graphics will be close to real life no matter what. Since the standards are so good in graphics the sound effects better be in the same ball park and GT5’s engine/muffler sounds are disgaceful. A dodge RAM does not sound like that a Nascar does not sound like that. These are basics! GT better get proper sounds or its done for. Its like buying a $1000 suit and thinking I cant go wrong with this no matter what, then wearing white tennis shoes with it. One cheap little thing can totally void and spoil the rest of it despite its quality.

    4. racingRAW

PD have officially come out on many occasions recently saying that they are working on the sound problem, that’s why it is somewhat frustrating to see lots of people here still complaining about the sounds… they’ve told us they know it’s a problem and that they are working on fixing it, so stop harassing forums about car sounds.

While GT5’s sound sampling for some cars is poor, it’s really ONLY with upgraded exhaust. Most cars sound pretty good with stock or sports exhaust. As far as total sound quality, GT5 is really good… there are just a few samples that aren’t totally accurate. At least the sound changes in GT5 with your view change, some games don’t even bother with that. They just blare the exhaust not on every camera.

    5. Johnnypenso

I have a feeling that people who don’t care as much for accurate and fully dynamic sounds fall into 1 of 2 camps. Either they have a substandard sound system or worse, listen to it through their tv speakers, in which case it doesn’t matter how great the sounds really are, it’ll be like listening to AM radio anyway. Either that, or they are in a situation where they can’t often turn the sound up due to others in the house, they live in an apartment or whatever. Regardless of your situation, no true automotive enthusiast could possibly disagree that sounds, along with graphics, physics and tactile feedback form the four corners of the foundation of sim racing immersion. Just like a house, that immersion can fall apart if just one of the four is substandard like the sounds are. That BMW sound sample is so far from the real engine noise it would be like stepping on your real life 69′ Camaro Z28 to do a burnout and hearing the exhaust note of a 93′ Honda Civic. It’s a joke and the fact that PD isn’t embarassed by that is surprising..or at least it used to be.

    6. eran0004

      “Why wouldn’t people complain?”

Because complaining includes a whole lot of emotionally sparked nonsense which is useless, irrelevant and offensive (and it doesn’t even make you look pretty).

And it’s not that I think the sounds are that great in GT5, it’s just the the complaints are worse. You think there’s too much gearbox whine? Well, say hello to the whining going on around here!

    7. Magic Ayrton

@eran004 – And you? are you some kind of hero that you are immune? People have the right to fight for what they believe in.

In this case the engine sounds!

    8. Swagger897

In my opinion, no one except the dev’s can decide what are and aren’t our priorities. This Gameplay>graphics>sound ><> crap is quite useless unless you are actively a beta tester or working on the game in some other way. To say whether or not a game is meant to be only about car collecting, racing and driving realism and not something where people from around the world meet up or anything else, is too large of a generalization that cant be taken back.

IMO, im going to be real flat and say it’s about driving. Then you can create your own opinion of what that is, but do not generalize it for the rest of the franchise to look at.

And if your going to say something along the lines of a quote and say “that’s a fact that you can’t disprove”, well… I see no source from your behalf so actually your statement about the quote from a different person is false until proven true. If you cant show a source, then dont complain and show hatred or dislike of opinion.

And MLRSparco is the most correct here. You cant compare these games to GT because they are not the same. GT is a 4 element game. You have 1.) ability to drive at night 2.) ability to drive in adverse weather conditions 3.) ability to drive on different surfaces 4.) ability to drive anything you want, anywhere (except for maybe a Bugatti at a dirt track) Many other games do not have all 4 of these elements that GT does, making the series have a step up against all, but the ability to be criticized against all if errors are spotted.

If you were never introduced to a rally car racing (dirt), indycar racing (F1 series [although not indycar it is the only example from today’s market]), endurance racing (simraceway), street racing (NFS), all of these games or had never heard any of the cars in the game in real life, then I’m quite sure you would never think they sound as bad as they do. Since most of us have been introduced to all of these types of racing, we make the broad generalization that GT messed up in sounds in almost everyone of their cars. This may be true, but the point of what the series is trying to do is improve and improve. It is what all companies do, improve their product with the least cost. That’s economics and you cant say that is wrong.

But until then, I am quite sure we will see the day that most cars represent to almost 100% their real life counterparts. I don’t know when that date is, and im quite sure that PD does not know the exact date, but it is most likely a goal of theirs to be the most realistic as possible.

  26. montecarlo87

Ah the Japanese, they always make things sound so exciting. American and European commentators would be over analyzing everything. lol.

    1. sayba2th

prime example is the D1 shows that I see on Fuel TV, dudes having strokes and ish while commentating, love it. Next closest would be the Sth American Football commentators. GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!

  27. RaceReady

Some of the ignorant a$$ remarks on here make me sick. For all you “losers” out there who have your head so far up rear end that you can’t take a breath without farting chill out. Enjoy the game, the cars, the races and most importanly the idea that we have another really good game to play. Its not about graphics(to an extent), or sound or variation. Its about the experience that counts. The guys at PD work their hearts out to bring you a great game that is full of heart and is made for us. Thats more important. Enjoy the game! And quit your whining.

    1. TomBrady

      Exactly.

There’s no reason to deny that this game will be hands down the best GT they have made, and even the worst GT, is still an amazing game. People need to stop whining about things. None of the other GT’s have had good sound, so why stop playing them now? makes no sense other than some false sense of entitlement

    2. RaceReady

If people would open their eyes and shut their mouths they would realize that every SECOND GT game to a system is always the best. But theres too many whiners and too many idiots who want things that are only going to delay the game even more. Enjoy what you got and feel honored.

    3. Samus

You do realise you’re basically telling people not to have an opinion? That ‘Gran Turismo 6 i excellent’ is the only allowed point of view?

    4. Samus

“There’s no reason to deny that this game will be hands down the best GT they have made”

Seriously, do you not realise how ridiculous stuff like this sounds?

    5. RaceReady

Prime example right here. Do your research Samus. Every 2nd GT game game on a console has been better than the first. Most players know that for a fact.

    6. TomBrady

@Samus Are you kidding me? What the hell makes you think that GT6 won’t be the best? Seriously, what does it not have that other GT’s had, because so far it’s showing the complete opposite. It’s offering even more than GT5 offered, yet you’re trying to say it’s gonna be worse? Have you not played the demo? The demo destroyed every other GT we’ve had so far. No other GT is nearly as fun, realistic, or immersive. Not only that but GT6 is a much more polished version of every other Gran Turismo so how the hell can you deny it’s the best one yet? What evidence do you have to the contrary? because nothing they have shown indicates otherwise. It’s gran turismo, we know what to expect. I highly doubt they could colossally screw it up somehow

    7. Quakebass

It doesn’t have consistent quality, for one thing. Standard cars and tracks, and a few good races, smothered in blandness that is A-Spec. The older games were consistently good throughout. This happened because PD was trying to cram too much into the time they had, and took breadth over depth. And it’s looking like it will happen again, considering very little has happened to the AI and sound (two major issues, as determined by the consumers) over the years. Pretty much only new features/content has been added, and it’s getting to the point where that’s unacceptable now, as it’s holding almost every other part of the game back.

Sure, there’s all sorts of new cars and tracks, and an INSANE track generator, new customization options, and physics… But what’s the point if there isn’t competitive A.I. to race against…? GT has never been made out to be a time trial simulator. And (I’m speaking on the advocates of this argument here – I could care less about sounds right now), again, with all of these new cars and detail, it’s starting to become ridiculous that the sound is crap – it doesn’t go with the supreme quality of everything else.

The old games have had consistency, the games this gen. haven’t. And just because the second games on on “each” (out of only TWO so far…) console have been the best in the series, does NOT mean the trend will follow. SERIOUS emphasis on the “TWO” console generations.

I don’t think the series is without hope right now, I simply think it’s severely limited on the PS3. I think the serious GT games will come back on the PS4. I think GT6 will be great, but not the best. Better than GT5, but can be done FAR better on easier and superior hardware available in the PS4.

    8. Quakebass

Meant to add “And little has been said about improvements to the AI and sound”…

More so the sound, less so the AI. Either way, there is more focus on adding new features than fixing the broken core basic features of the game that have been there since day one of the first game.

    9. Johnnypenso

Back in the day when GT was the only sim game in town, being the “best” GT so far meant something. But this isn’t 1998 or 2002. A dozen or more sims on PC and various iterations of Forza have shown us what is possible when it comes to things like AI, physics, graphics, event creation, damage modelling, track modelling, sound realism etc. etc. Consumers and avid sim racers are well aware of what can be done and what is possible and in many areas GT falls horribly short including sound, AI, livery editing, damage modelling and retaining 10+ year old assets within the game. Whereas 10 years ago there weren’t a lot of options or competition, now there is and it’s up to PD to step up to the plate and deliver. If they don’t they’ll get roasted in the gaming media and fans will begin to look to alternatives for the sim racing fix.

    10. Samus

Once again TomBrady you’re acting as if your opinion is the only one that matters and nobody else could possibly have a different one.

    11. Magic Ayrton

When you start driving real cars then you will know what authenticity is, until then please be quiet. It’s a free comment section.

  28. Zuel

Wow so many worried about this and that. If some stop asking for worthless additions then maybe they can it done correctly so some of you will stop crying. History is repeating itself with the masses, masses cried for things or items from GT5 Prologue to be added to GT5 once the masses seen they weren’t there. Then they were happy for a little then the crying started again. If some of the masses want a well-balanced sim stop asking for stuff that not need along with the crying. People complain before thinking things through. Now wonder GT5 turned out to be junk for some due to the masses complaining and crying which in turn had GT5 rushed. Let GT6 take its course, let them do they work that is need.

    1. Johnnypenso

Dude, you haven’t a clue how business works if you think PD added stuff to GT5 because people were whining about it. And worse, if that were true, that they didn’t really want to put some stuff in there but because a tiny handful of people were complaining about something on a website so they added it, then they are the lamest organization in the world and there is no hope for them.

    2. Zuel

Have you played GT5 Prologue in entirety? If so you will remember when the PP system was first added, then you would remember when the power limiter was added. If you remember these then you should remember that the POWER LIMITER was never available in GT5 at launch of the game. It was added to GT5 after PEOPLE CRIED and COMPLAINED about it. So don’t you come to me saying something wasn’t added that shouldn’t have. Learn the history before you make a statement on what is or what’s not. And assuming I know nothing about business or running a company just make you look like a bloody:censored:. You never assume anything.

    3. Johnnypenso

So just to be clear. You’re saying that PD took this $Half Billion game/$3-4Billion gaming franchise, and added features that sucked because a tiny minority of people playing the game were whining about it? That’s what you’re going to hang your hat on?

    4. Zuel

Yes, it’s the ugly truth. They had no chose because Sony was feeling the pressure. Even when we had trouble with people keeping their end of a trade. Once people started complaining about that they bricked the cars which in turn didn’t allow us to collect all the cars within GT5 along with the DLC and special edition cars. Everything that we have now is due to the users not PD or Sony.

    5. Zuel

I know decisions are made in the best interest of the company and consumer, some decisions are thought out carefully some are good some are bod but they both get a result.

    6. Johnnypenso

“I know decisions are made in the best interest of the company and consumer, some decisions are thought out carefully some are good some are bod but they both get a result.”

Decisions by PD are made in the best interest of the company…full stop. PD does not make decisions in your or my best interest. The include or leave out of the game things which they think will provide the best return on investment, regardless of whether it’s good for you or me. If the cost to re-record sound samples is $20,000,000 and they don’t think they can get that back through increased profits it will probably never be done. All the things we have asked for, for several versions of the game, better sounds, better AI, livery editor, career mode etc are simple to do, other games have shown it can be done, so why aren’t they done? Because sales are not going down by not having them in the game, people continue to buy the game regardless, so why spend money on developing those things?

  29. HuskyGT

Awesome vid. Seeing that Corvette in that new track makes me want to play the game so bad! Can’t wait for this.

    1. sangdude82

Finally we will be able to have the iconic American Muscle cars together on GT6. Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, Chevy C7 Corvette & SRT Viper GTS :D

    2. HuskyGT

Yes!! Finally! I’m so glad they did justice for Ford this time. That Mustang GT Premium Coupe wasn’t even a challenge for the Camaro and the Challenger.

    3. TomBrady

But the Ford Mustang GT500 is the new version, not the eleanor one. That’s the only mustang I really like, and it was in GT2. I don’t get why they took it out.

    4. Pit Crew

The Standard Mustang GT was better then the Premium Mustang GT lol. But then again the Standard Modern Z28 Camaros were better than the Premium SS Camaro…weird stuff.

    5. sangdude82

Yeah, I’m super excited about the 2013 Shelby GT500 since we will have a proper & premium GT500 for the first time in GT history. The Mustang GT that we had on GT5 was never gonna cut the mustard. So, all the American Pony cars will have their top of the range cars on GT6 apart from Camaro & Challenger. The Challenger doesn’t have their souped up version yet but Camaro does :( So let’s wait and see if a 2012 Camaro ZL1 gets included on GT6.

    6. HuskyGT

I remember the Shelby lineup in GT2. The GT500 was a convertible if I’m not mistaken, but it was indeed there. I’m glad the Daytona Coupe is at least returning to the GT franchise though.

    7. Pit Crew

So… what would you call the SRT8 Challenger? It hardly can be confused with a manufacturers standard trim level automobile.

  30. hiStream

I’m not going to use this video as a reference for how the end product will be like. it’s very possible that what we saw was an early beta etc. I’m disappointed with the video, but I have a hard time believing that what we saw was the end product of the game play.

  31. 2012GT325

Should I get a steering wheel for GT6? Ever since GT2, I have used the game pad to play but feel like I’m missing out on being so much better at the game. Would it also make the game more enjoyable? Thanks, everyone!

    1. Pit Crew

I concur. If you look around on ebay there could actually be a g25 or g27 around at a good price. That ones a beast.

    2. Phouchg

You might not be very much better, because some people drive about as fast with gamepad as wheel. You should get a wheel though because it makes the game at least twice as fun. :)

    3. TomBrady

You might want to wait til the 15th of november so we can confirm that DFGT will work with PS4 since Shu won’t answer my tweets

    4. Johnnypenso

There is zero doubt that the DFGT will work with GT6. Even GT would not be silly enough to make the “official” wheel of GT5 not work in GT6.

  32. DSUjoeDirte9

Looks exactly the same as GT5 just the gauges are different. -.- The grass still looks worse than it did in gt5 prologue too.

    1. DSUjoeDirte9

yeah but i mean having the next game look worse than the first isn’t exactly a good thing. I mean newer game i would expect and hope to see improvments instead of just setteling for what fans may be able to tolerate.

Not just the grass. Other GT fans can easily argue that they have yet to improve engine sounds and ect that is still the same as gt5.

Although these things don’t bother me personally.

  33. GTRufus

I am so proud to be a Swiss ;)
I don’t give a damn about the sound. I like the game. I am more exited about the new features on this game. If you set your expectations too high, you will definively be disapointed at the end… I am sure they will take care of the sounds in GT7, since it will be released on a PS4.

  34. lancashirelad

Its quite easy to translate the Japanese, I did it in the first few seconds of game play. They are saying gt 5.5
Think after buying all the gt games this one I’m going to pass on. Especially with the poor engine sound, rubbish ai and lack of any damage. Ps4 will arrive next month and they really need to up their next game to not end up being left behind.

    1. Pit Crew

No Racing games on PS4 till about spring unless NFS series suits your style.

Highly doubtful that anything they said translated to you hearing GT6 but Im sure the members who do know fluid japanese will be able to confirm that here or in the GT6 forums, so i’ll take their word it.

  35. Zuel

    @PMartins18
You want a cookie for being first to post?
I wish I knew how to understand and speak Japaneses, though it seems that GT6 has come a fat since the demo.

  36. strikieg

Those sounds we’re already a problem in GT5 for me. There’s very little in-game depth being added in GT6 in my opinion. So little in fact that I’m really not sure why should I pay 70 euros for what’s basically an update. The only thing keeping me mildly interested in this game are the GT3 racers and the improved physics.

  37. e2blade

I CANT BELIEVE IT, they reused sounds from GT5, OMFG. WHY WHY WHY WHYASKLDJGFAKLDJFADKL;FJAD;KOLF, wow such fake, no realism, much boring.

    1. MeanElf

And you have been hiding under which rock for the past few months? I’d still suggest waiting for the game though for any definitive impression of how the game will be…and possibly getting a dictionary in the meantime to better understand the true meaning of the words you are using.

    2. Quigz125

yes, because the sounds are from GT5, it means the whole entire game is 100% unrealistic. amazing how a sound itself which has no effect on the performance of a car will make the whole game of GT6 feel so fake that we all will give up…. i hate dumb-asses on this site… some people should continue to live and die under that rock their parents left them under.

    3. frivoloushobby

I was pretty dissappointed that the new sound engine wouldnt be ironed out for launch. As a car guy I’ve spent over a grand on getting my Z to sound the way I want. It adds to the experience and enjoyment of the car. The engine notes are lacking but I’m not upset I’ve got the game completely paid for. So I’m dissappointed but not pychologically broken like e2blade.

    4. HuskyGT

Mr. Yamauchi already said that they are aware of the problem and that they will patch them soon after the game is released. Although PD and Yamauchi San have said many things that never come true, this time it was good to hear from the creator himself that he was concerned about the sound sand that they were working on different ways to produce sounds in the game. He could’ve given his trademark answer “Probably,” “We don’t know,” or “I cannot answer that at this moment.” His sounded really honest this time and that is appreciated. And besides, he also mentioned these sounds were placeholders.

And honestly, there is nothing wrong with the Corvette and the Honda’s sound. The Z4’s sound is indeed wrong.
