Facebook Qualifier Launched for European GT Academy 2014

drag

If you’re in an eligible European country, there’s a new way to qualify for GT Academy 2014, and you don’t even need a PlayStation 3 or a copy of GT6 – just a Facebook account!

Called the “GT Academy Challenge”, the Facebook app invites you to “drive” a Nissan GT-R in a series of mini-games playable in your web browser. Your final score is based on your reaction time in an upshifting challenge, braking challenge, slalom course, and a driving course.

The player with the highest score from each country will be invited to a special GT6-based, live qualification event, where “those who perform best” can earn a spot in the national finals of their respective countries.

Check out the game here to get started, and good luck…

Since virtually ALL of you entered the North American divisionals, you already had your try for the year.

I noticed that just about every country with electricity and minimal internet was allowed into the United States and most of Canada’s competition. I think everybody from every country needs to compete in the European competition. I plan on it. I may not win, but I want to enter their regionals. Maybe then Gran Turismo will either set up some decent firewalls against other countries competing in these regional competitions. It should be impossible to enter a regional from countries other than those that are supposed to enter. By joining other divisions, they are gaining an unfair advantage. I don’t want 5 Japanese and 5 Europeans (just for instance, not actual results) to be the top 10 of the U.S. and Canada competition.

Awful, just awful. Like we all have cursor keys and a space bar in our cars.
Terrible idea and really badly executed.

I did this so i could invite a friend and get the free premium car…….but no option to share, i even pressed the little mail button but that didnt lead to anything

Sad to say that it’s only for the browser game, I thought it was for GT6 too. :( That is the cheapest way to get into GT Academy anyway, anyone could get in, even if they know nothing about motorsport.

Anyone actually tried it? It’s been completely hacked. Went #4 with 26,400 and now my time is nowhere near there and it keeps thinking I’m called Bobby D. Bobby D who is #1 (UK) with a score of 1,014,439.

    1. Oyashiro-sama

Yes, it is happening to me too, for the portuguese region. It was fine earlier, but now it’s all Bobby D.

Just changing the subject, I thought we were supposed to be getting the Volkswagen VGT car today?

“Just changing the subject” … Why?
There are specific threads and News items for that subject.
      Try posting there.

“Have you ever tried sucking a lemon?”

Yes, I have, because I thought it would taste like lemonade.

Reading the comments one gets the idea that there is some misunderstanding in what the academy is meant to be from a Nismo or PD view. In the very first place the academy is a marketing tool, that allows both companies to strengthen their brands. Nismo`s strategy (especially for europe) is to gain market share and awareness. They need communication to build the brand image. PD on their side does good in teaming with authentic automotive companies to make their approach to be a simulation trustable.
That said the facebook competition is NOT meant to bring up the best racers in the first place, but it should broaden the communicative reach to people, who are not already cutting ten`s out their lap times (being hardcore GT fans already).
Not all activities are meant to be directed to us here at GT planet even though we get to know it, thanks to Jordan and team.

  8. GTP_CargoRatt

This is a joke, right? Dumbest thing I’ve seen so far as it relates to the Academy. Just wow.

  9. SnakeOfBacon

I think I failed the braking test, but did good everywhere else, I don’t see a way to retry yet though, I’m stuck on a screen with a helmet and a spinning circle after the invite phase.

  10. RACECAR

I really don’t see the point of this, chances are the people who participate in this will have no shot at making it so it seems like a wasted effort before you even begin. You may know how to drive your car around, but this’ll do nothing to teach you about care control.

Really not sure what Sony are thinking with this. Are they hoping that getting a lot of Facebook ‘likes’ might shift a few more copies of GT6?

  12. Johnnypenso

If you guys have never heard it, look up the term, “jumping the shark”. I think GTAcademy just jumped the shark…lol.

  13. Ameer67

Don’t worry guys. GT6 has better sounds than this. Finally something that GT6 sounds wins in. lol

  14. Amac500

That’s week, I’d much rather they just take a 33rd guy from the qualifying field. How’s the suppose to translate to racing ability?

  15. Nato_777

Well that’s a little left field! If any of the top drivers aren’t already GT6 players I can see them struggling a bit in the GT6 qualification event as it’ll be a whole different driving experience from the facebook app. Still best of luck to those that do. :)

    “Drag Challenge”
In before someone says drag racing confirmed for future DLC.
But if I can win a car in gt6.. I’ll be all over this except that I’m not in Europe..

If you share with a friend you unlock a “premium” car to reattempt the events with. I chose not to sell anybody out.
