7th GTP F1 World Championship (F1 2010 edition) * SEASON FINISHED :'''( *

Really? I found it a bit boring towards the end.....

You are surely joking?

hi there,
Wow this track is really a driver track, one of the few tracks there you can go on different lines, really awsome. Are some ready for practice race now or before 20:00 uk time?

That's what i've said all along and it's one of the reasons I love it so much, it has several different lines you can take 👍

hi there,

ok standard engineer setup seems to be the fastest here. Wow this track is really a driver track, one of the few tracks there you can go on different lines, really awsome. Are some ready for practice race now or before 20:00 uk time?

Im up for one now mate 👍

After feeling much more confident about tonights race than last week as I prefer this track alot more than Malaysia. After that prac sesh Im alot more nervous now haha I think my problem was the tyre wear rates being much higher on a 20% race causeing me to feel like I was driving on ice.

Hopefully though with a higher downforce setting and tyres that last longer I should be alright, fingers crossed :)

Feeling better after a practice session with Ali and Dark. No offs and only finished 20 seconds back of Dark, although I'm pretty sure he slowed his pace for the last few laps!

Looking forward to tonight!

Yea you had great pace, after my first lap it all went down hill for me, yea you weren't far off Dark throughout the whole race nice one 👍

I noticed that, pity, you'll be there though. thanks man, now I need to be that consistent in the race!

EDIT: one day I may figure sector 2 out.

Race Report - From my point of view: Okay so I had qualifyed 6th in a wet qualifying session. I got an average start and went into the first corner WITHOUT tagging anyone but it went off everywhere else with people causing incidents and I managed to navigate through all the carnage and to my suprise I was up to 2nd place just behind Internet_User! But the leaders soon caught my tail and I made the decision that there was no point causing to much of a fight as I was clearly slower than them. But I realised that I was making good pace with Baumi and I decided to make beating him my goal for the race, unfortunately went to deep into the hairpin with Baumi right on my tail, I ended up 6th. Lap 10 and with Nervus closing down on me due to badly worn soft tyres I decided to pit and I knew that if I had a good outlap with some fast laps I could stay ahead of him, I also knew that Baumi was lapping slower than me so I pushed as hard as I could to catch up with him, fortunately for me he spun and I just managed to avoid him coming out of turn 11. After Baumi had pitted for a new nose he quickly caught up with me and we were battling like crazy, he pulled out of my slipstream on the back straight, I took the outside line and gave him room into turn 14, he was ahead but I got a better exit and managed to hold position going into the final turn. I knew that Baumi was faster than me so I tried holding him up for as long as I could, coming out of turn 13 I was pushing to hard and managed to half spin the car but Baumi had spun earlier in the corner and again had to pit for a new nose. Lap 18 and Shaggy was coming up behind trying to lap me, I let him past at the hairpin but Baumi had a new set of soft tyres on and was catching fast as my Primes were starting to wear. Lap 21 and coming out of turn 11 and coming into turn 12 DarkPSI and Internet_User battling hammer and tongs, I moved over to let them past, but as I looked behind I saw the red spec that I really didn't want to see, it was Baumi! :embarrassed:. Lap 25 and Baumi and I had been battling for quite a while, I thought I had 5th place in the bag but Baumi was immensely fast on the Soft tyres and I was driving out of my skin to try and keep him behind but it was no use, he muscled his way past and sped off into the distance, I now made it my aim to finish 6th as there was no hope in catching Baumi unless he spun again, but he didn't and I finished in 6th Place, undoubtedly my best finish in the championship so far, I am extremely happy with this result and I hope for more of the same in Catalyuna! 👍

Race report - new experiences abound. Qualifying in rain was a first for me. I pretty much did the turtle thing, kept the car on the track and out of the way, Q9.

Race dawned and fortunately the weather was clear. Confidence up, I followed the pack into turn one and by turn two there nothing but cars pointed the wrong way. I managed to slip around the outside, with my sights on moving up a few places. I did, just not as many as I thought I'd get. I got spun by someone recovering from the mess and came out of turn three in 7th place.

Had some good battles with Ali and Nervus early in the going. At one point Nervus and I were fighting hard, I missed a brake point going into turn eleven and was on the inside, I tried as hard as I could to stay inside, but still managed to spin Nervus (sorry). I waited for Nervus to recover and from there I was done. I made a few more mistakes and ninth was where I stayed. Second half of the race was more consistent, but well off anyones pace.

Ahh well, I was much more aware of being overtaken this time and hopefully didn't cause anyone any grief. This is all pretty new to me, time trials and bots don't do much for gaining race experience.

Cheers.

Qualifying and Race Results ( I think I can find a tenth or two if I clean my screen)

Yeah, enjoyable race.

Quali was interesting for me because I nearly didn't set a lap. My first flying lap was pretty quick but I cut the last corner rendering the lap void. I carried on and was on another reasonable lap but again made a mistake on the final bend, accelerating out of the final corner causing me to oversteer and spin nose first into the inside wall. No front wing and two punctured tires, oops! I'm not sure how long it took me to get back to the pits but it seemed like an eternity. I actually locked the brakes coming into the pits and went straight into the wall haha. Did a pretty sweet three point turn to get into the pits though :D

So yeah, had 5 mins or so left to get two laps in. I got held up in some sort of traffic I think on the first flying lap putting me 6th (??) and then finally managed a reasonable lap error free to put me in fourth. I went with a bit of downforce on my laps but I wonder if I would have been quicker with even lower downforce.

Race was dry and because I knew I didn't have outright pace over the likes of Dark, Pipeslice and Shaggy I decided to start on hards. My thinking behind this was that I would maybe luck out and be able to pit straight onto wet tyres if it started raining later in the race, and also try and get a bit of consistent driving going on before I would have to pit.

I got a fine start, equal with the guys around me. I think I would have exited turn 2 in 4th place had everyone stayed on track but luck was on myfavour as Pipeslice seemed to take out Shaggy, collecting Baumi (?) in the process allowing me a clear path to first! From then on I just tried to concentrate on my driving and see if I could be consistent. It took me a while to perfect my braking points and for this reason I wasn't really driving that fast. On lap 6 I over-steered out of 13 allowing Shaggy to take me on the straight but I fancied a late braking manoeuvre down the inside and went for it.

LOL, I locked the brakes and went right off. I also spun the car trying to get back on the track and that really pissed me off. This was a messy phase of the race for me because before I knew it Dark and Pipeslice were ahead of me and I was 10-15 seconds behind him and Shaggy respectively. I think it was around this time from lap 8-18 where I got my act together and started to really nail my braking points. I was doing consistent 1:37's at one point and was maintaining the gap between me and Dark/Pipeslice at around 12-14 seconds.

I kept up this pace when everyone pitted and was feeling pretty good about my chances
of a possible podium perhaps, knowing that I had soft tires ahead of me. Can't remember what lap this was (16 maybe) but Shaggy had caught up with me after his pit stop and I let him by on the back straight as we were on different strategies. This was a strange part of the race because it broke my concentration somehow and I wasn't as fast after this. Also, although all the backmarkers were great, I did have to race with Nervous for half a lap before he let me past. This mentally effected me because I was aware that it was a critical part of the race for me, and I could see that Dark was closing up behind me.

By the time I pitted on lap 19 I was only 3-4 seconds ahead of Dark :( As I came out of the pits on softs I was 14 seconds behind Pipeslice who I assume was right up the trumpet of Dark at this point. I just couldn't put consistent laps together on the softs though! I think I was definitely pushing it a bit too hard because I was oversteering out of corners and losing half seconds here and there quite regularly. I would do a 1:34.xx followed by a 1:36-7. Anyway, I ended up finishing 8-9 seconds behind Pipeslice and was reasonably pleased with my overall race pace.

Anyway, probably my most consistent race so far in the championship and probably my best 50% race to date. I also learnt that I'm really going to have to be faultless to finish in a podium position this season. Those 10-15 seconds I lost at the start of the race due to pointless mistakes really would have allowed me to be right in the mix come the end of the race. Bitter sweet in a way.

Congrats to Shaggy, Pipeslice and Dark who drove great races. Also Tom too who's showing good improvement. Nervous is definitely improving too.

I'll upload photo's of quali/final standings at some point.

Race Report - Once again pretty dodgy qualifying by me this time I accidentally hit go to track before changing my set up for the wet so wasted time doing a lap straight back to the pits lol. Somehow managed to get 8th on the grid in the end though.

I strated pretty well and was really pleased manged to move up a place or two in the first two corners, then turn 2-3 was pretty crazy with alot of cars off the track, I thought I was going to exit turn 3 in maybe 4th or 5th but just as I entered turn 3 a car came back on the track ever so slightly and just clipped me sending me off as well. Managed to get out of it in 8th again so hadn't really lost position but I took a few corner wide and so 9th place (think it might have been Nervus) caught back up soon after. Next few laps I totally lost pace and kcheeb and Nervus took a pretty big lead over me. So I just put my head down and looked to finish the race in one piece. Luckly for me I think kchheb had one or two errors as I caught him up ever so slightly and on lap 10 I think he pitted. I knew that my only chance at getting back in the race was that I started on a prime set of tyres (no idea what possessed me to do so but it payed off lol) I managed to overtake kcheeb when he pitted and this being a crucial part of the race for me I just tryed to keep my pace which had improved from the first 5 or so laps. Eventually I caught up with Nervus, due to him having recently pitted I think or maybe he went off somewhere, I managed to catch right up to him and he breaked a bit too late for turn 14 and went of the track allowing me just enough time to get infront. He didn't give up though and closely chased me for the next lap and at turn 12 I pulled over for Shaggy to pass then I had trouble getting traction in the rear tyres on turn 13 causing me a slow entry onto the huge straight and Nervus passed me. Luckly for me though Nervus trying not to make the same mistake braked earlier but slightly too early allowing me to pass him on the outside just going into turn 14. But not long after, on turn 9 I believe, I slid and almost spun out and Nervus flew past me once more.

I then just tryed to keep the tyres going until I pitted on lap 18, as I went in Kcheeb was flying down the long straight and due to me watching where he was on the map I didnt brake in time for the pit crew which cost me some valuble seconds. (Not as embarrassing as Button today though haha). However I managed to get out of the pits just infront of kcheeb by probably less than a second. I was greatly pleased at this but still had 10 laps to go with him right on my tail. Driving on fresh set of options was bliss compared to the primes though and I finally started to get into the groove and posted some tidy lap times where I was actually beating each lap time Id set the previous lap, around about 1:37 or 1:38s consistantly. This helped me relax more as I created more of a gap between me and kcheeb and then the final laps were just great fun :)

Thanks guys great race, well done to the podium finishers and thanks Shaggy for the message asking for a camera as you've made me notice I've lost mine lol

Thanks all for the racing tonight. Really glad to see you're all posting reports on your race. It helps paint a picture of the race as a whole 👍

I'll post mine tomorrow if I get the time. In the mean time, i've updated the tables in the main post, and also added Dark's race videos to my Malaysian GP report. You can check it out here

Are you gents looking for a driver? I've wanted to join up with an organized F1 2010 league to compliment my weekly GT5 series.

I'll have to check with one of our members who's likely to give you his slot because of other commitments. However, are you sure you're really able to attend this on top of your GT5 series? Also, is the race time suitable for you? Where are you from?

I'd love you to join, it's just I hope you'll be able to attend nearly all the races 👍

I'm very impressed with the video you made over at your LeMans series thread (i'm partial to a bit of Justice myself also :) ). If you were to join, would there be the possibility of filming your races as well?

Thanks

Part 2:

Qualifying:

Being confident of my pace this weekend, rain was the last thing I wanted really, but I got on with it and fuelled up for a 2 lap run. I caught traffic towards the end of my first lap so backed off but my next lap got me provisional pole with a 1:36.3. I came back into the pits and saw Baumi was just 4 tenths off my lap so i'd definitely have to go out and improve.

I fuelled up for 3 flying laps and got a fresh set of tyres and went out again. My first lap improved by about a tenth, my second lap hit traffic again so I backed off and as I was winding myself up for my final flier, I saw Baumi27 pumped in a 1:35.7 with another one of his quali specials :scared:
With this in mind I launched the car over the final curb to carry good speed onto the pit-straight but unfortunately had a big oversteer moment and instead I lost quite a bit of time :ouch:
As a result, I was 0.25 seconds down on my best first sector alone but put in purple 2nd and 3rd sectors to close within 6 hundredths of Baumi's time, but his lap was too much to beat. However I was glad to have secured a front row slot 👍

Race:

Most of the runners opted to start on the options with the exceptions of Mutu20 (Internet_User) and pole man, Baumi. With this in mind, and partly inspired by Lewis Hamilton's move on Sebastian Vettel at the start of the GP earlier in the day, I set about nailing Baumi into turn 1 with my extra traction off the line :mischievous:

This went according to plan as I got up his inside and made the move stick. I hung him out to dry going round the corner, though i'm certain we never made contact - I hope this was fair 👍
When I turned into two, I was tagged by Pipeslice who must have slithered up the inside of Baumi as well. This spun us right round and most of the field passed us. Pipeslice courteously ceded position and let me go and I was pleased to see my team mate, Mutu20 was in the lead 👍

As in Malaysia, the next phase of the race is a little hazy for me as I was in 'race mode' and was just focused on braking points and apexes and not the bigger picture of the race. I do remember getting past Baumi around the outside of turn 6 (fresh options vs primes = no contest). Tombrooks97 was having a great run and spent several laps up in 4th place before he went deep into the turn 14 hairpin and I took his position.

If I remember correctly, DarkPSI had got by Mutu20 and when my team mate took a really slow line through turn 13 I thought he was letting me through (Rob Smedley had nothing to do with this) but although I got ahead of him on the backstraight and assumed the racing line, Mutu totally outbraked himself into 14 and as I could see what was happening, I avoided turning in so that I wasn't collected in the manoeuvre :scared:

This was an unfortunate error by James as he spun rejoining the track and lost 10 seconds - without this he would almost certainly have finished on the podium.

Then in clean air, I started catching DarkPSI who was leading and followed him closely down the pit-straight where he went off taking too much speed into turn 1. This was a pity as I was looking forward to doing battle with him :)

Dark pitted behind me on lap 10, but since we all started on brand new tyres because of the wet qualifying, I stayed out until lap 12 to pit for fresh boots. I came out in second, a few seconds behind my team mate who was on a different strategy and was yet to pit. When I closed up on him he gave me the position on the back straight because it would have slowed us both down had we fought for position.

From there on in I just settled down and put in consistent lap times on the primes, starting in the 1:35's, then dipping gradually into the 1:34's before setting a 1:33.9 on the very last lap.

Pipeslice easily had the pace to win this race so it's a credit to DarkPSI that he held him back for so long. Also, congratulations to Tom who showed an enormous improvement - if he can combine his qualifying pace from Malaysia with his race pace and discipline in China then it won't be long before he's on the podium 👍

Also congrats to Baumi on a stunning pole position - you're quite the qualifying specialist 👍

And finally a big thank you to those who were a lap behind for being so courteous with letting the front-runners through. There were no such problems like we had in Malaysia which made the whole experience much better for everyone.

Thanks again to everyone who took part. Next race is 2 weeks from now because of Easter. Look forward to racing you all then. Hope you enjoy your break in the mean time:) 👍

I went deep to give you space and make sure that I didn't spin you out like in previous races, but you got a bloody good exit 👍

Cheers mate, that means a lot to me :)

Also, i'm not doing too bad in the drivers championship and Jordan are doing a great job in 3rd place in the constructors :D

If you were to join, would there be the possibility of filming your races as well?

Shaggy, I have an Hauppagge HD PVR I can use to record the races. I just need to set up a PC in the man cave so I can record. Should give a different perspective, especially into the first set of corners :sly:

I'll definitely have it set up for next race. I'll post a test vid to get feedback when ready.

Exactly, this championship rewards consistency. Holding back on banzai manoeuvres and biding your time usually pays off. If you can keep this approach i'm sure you will profit.

That'd be great Ken 👍

Obviously the more people who can film the race the better. Sometimes I find watching some of our battles are as much as fun as when they're taking place.

I hear you, I watched Dark's race video and enjoyed it immensely.

I actually saw myself a couple of times, once a blur that appeared to be going in reverse :boggled: and the second, over steering going onto the main straight, which aligned the left of my car perfectly to Dark's nose, sorry Dark :dunce:

Great vid kcheeb it's great watching you guys on vid, having a wheel just makes the cornering so smooth and me so jelous haha. Hopefully after my exams next month I'll splash out on a G27 which will make it even more fun.

In Monaco there's obviously going to be problems with drivers getting in the way whilst your on a hot lap so can I just suggest that we split the session in the 3 segments so for example, for the first 5 minutes 3 drivers go out and set fast times and repeat the same for the next 10 minutes?
