There's discussion about that at the top of this page... Just take the minute required to read it before you post.
Ah. Typical. Cant post my two cents on anything without someone telling me "your doing it wrong". Sheesh. Anyways, back to
Mayans.

Yeah, the world's gonna randomly implode for no logical reason other than the Mayan calendar starts a new age.

Let me put it this way: say the world does end on that day, what will all the believers' scare-mongering have achieved? Nothing. We'd still all be killed anyway. There's no point even thinking about it for any length of time. It's not gonna happen, but if it did, no amount of preparation could stop it anyway.

Sorry, you don't get to play the innocent commenter with a good helping of the pity riposte and expect to simply move on.

Saying "I read something" somewhere is not adding your two cents. You are not adding anything to the conversation when you blindly drop into a discussion to make a willfully ignorant point without bothering to read the previous posts.

I award you no points.

This is as far as I'm going to take this with you.

This is my last post with you as well. It is my two cents however as I agree and know that as well. Everyone is new to a thread at one point so I did drop in blindly. I did read the previous posts but obviously not enough of them. And lastly you don't own the forum. I and many others don't need your help. Have a great night.

A new Mayan calender has been discovered by archaeologists, which "is going to keep going for billions, trillions, octillions of years into the future...Numbers we can't even wrap our heads around."

http://news.yahoo.com/nevermind-apoc...180438279.html

A nail in the coffin of 'the nail in the coffin of earth,' if I do say so myself.

But...

We've always known that to be the case. Zip back to the beginning of this thread:

No since the Mayan calendar isn't ending in 2012, is doesn't end for another 41,341,049,999,999,999,999,999,994,879 years.
Famine View Post
Indeed. Even if you ignore the fact that the Mayan calendar isn't ending - it's rolling over from 12.19.19.17.19 to 13.0.0.0.0 and has lots of mileage thereafter as Joey points out - we get these kooky predictions all the time, even on GTP...

So do we. Our cycles end every year on December 31st. We have other, bigger ones that end every ten years, hundred years, thousand years, ten thousand years and in fact every time we need to put a new unit in place.

The Mayan - or Mesoamerican - Long Count calendar won't end until a considerable time after the Earth is swallowed by the Sun, the galaxy coalesces with the Andromeda galaxy and, in fact, after the universe itself ends.

A cycle ends. The calendar doesn't. Like Joey said.

This particular cycle is one of the bigger ones - a nearly 400 year one - but not the biggest. Besides which then we already had a Gregorian Calendar cycle of more than twice that magnitude ending a few years back (no cataclysm). Incidentally, the b'ak'tun ends on December 21st, not 23rd. We've also seen b'ak'tuns ending in September 1618 (no cataclysm), June 1224 (no cataclysm), March 830 (no cataclysm), December 435 (no cataclysm)...
The discovery here isn't a "new" Mesoamerican Long Count calendar. It's just one written on a wall rather than on a specific artefact.

The world will end the day that crazy conspiracy theorists stop claiming that because some ancient person said something that may have vaguely suggested something mildly similar to what they're trying to gain attention by saying, the world is going to end.

Those always crack me up.

What I was getting ready to say,and now this is just supposedly what could happen, which is just a conspiracy of the sorts.

It's about the Illuminati and how they will fake a UFO invasion(Dec 21st 2012) and then when all the people are freaked out they will then start to enforce the New World Order.

As the one above me said, they are also planning to detonate a nuclear bomb at the 2012 olympics.

I did watch some videos that also connected the Illuminati to the subway bombings in London I believe? They were also supposedly part of other events that killed many people.

It's kind of scary, if true, all the stuff that the Illuminati are planning to do.

Yes. If true. Which is not very likely is it? I know how exciting conspiracy theories can be, because I read quite a lot of them myself. Kind of like reading a really exciting book. And at the back of your head there's the "what if" feeling.

But if you get genuinely scared by it, then I suggest taking a deep breath and stop reading.

There have been conspiracy theories that have shown to be true, and I believe that parts of some theories raise genuine suspicion, but the vast majority is utter bull.

Where the heck did you come up with that?

I was realistically guessing your 'event' as more along the lines of:

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/05/10/op...e-climate.html

The New York Times
Canada’s tar sands, deposits of sand saturated with bitumen, contain twice the amount of carbon dioxide emitted by global oil use in our entire history. If we were to fully exploit this new oil source, and continue to burn our conventional oil, gas and coal supplies, concentrations of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere eventually would reach levels higher than in the Pliocene era, more than 2.5 million years ago, when sea level was at least 50 feet higher than it is now. That level of heat-trapping gases would assure that the disintegration of the ice sheets would accelerate out of control.

Sea levels would rise and destroy coastal cities.

Global temperatures would become intolerable.

Twenty to 50 percent of the planet’s species would be driven to extinction.

Civilization would be at risk.

^I have read that article as well.

@everyone.

In no way do I believe in all of this stuff. One thing I do believe in is keeping an open mind.I find the info, read it,find it interesting, think about it for a bit and then I'll leave it be or I'll post/tell the info for/to others and let them decide what they think about it.

I keep the "what if" factor in the back of my head as well.I'll use the Mayan prophecy as an example. What if that could happen, yeah it would be scary, but not the whole "I'm scared half to death and should build a bunker",but more of watching a movie, then something crazy happens and saying "man that would be scary". See the difference?

Just trying to set things straight about me having a tinfoil hat on.
