I have two ps2's and two tv sets. How do I hook up a LAN or a System linkage between both systems (would system link be considered a Lan?) I just want the simplest method to have 2 players playing on 2 different tv sets so we have the whole screen to ourselves vs. eachother. One tv is upstairs and the other is downstairs. Will this be a problem?
What choices do I have?

This is ****ing rediculous. I have an old PS2 with the ilink thingy and a new PS2 slim with no inlink thingy. Now how the **** are these two supposed to hook up to each other?

Calm down buddy!

It is correct that the PStwo has no i-Link anymore, but you won't need it, as GT4 doesn't support i-Linking anyway. You need to set up a LAN, and GT4 should work fine with two Playstations directly connected with a twisted pair cable.

Well no.
what you will need is the network adaptor for the older PS2 & the new PStwo has one built in.

then you will need a hub or a switch to connect the two via a cat5 network cable.

or you can use a x-over cable to connect the two units directly together without the use of the hub or switch.

it is pretty basic networking you will have to deal with.
it isn't too big of a deal if you have the correct hardware.

as far as the in game configuration, well i don't have the game until this afternoon, so i am not sure of how that is setup or laid out.

Yes, what they told you is wrong. They might be thinking about getting online or something, but for a simple LAN you should be able to connect them directly. I won't swear this as I haven't tried yet, but as you know what you're looking for now I recommend a search in this forum, I think I saw how to do this several times.

If you connect two PCs directly through their network connectors, you use a twisted pair cable as well, and I don't see why it should be different here. Anyway, make a search to be sure.

I am having the same problem, successfully hooking up two PS2s. I spent a lot of time being bounced around between Linksys and Playstation Technical supports and still haven't managed a connection.

'Waiting for Connection' is what I get. Very frustrating stuff.

Well, maybe it works with a standard Cat5 cable then, like I said I'm not sure. I've been hooking up PS2s with PStwos through a switch though, and it worked. You need to have the network settings in GT4 set up correctly though, which still is difficult.

Okay I live in a building in which every dorm room (like 99 total) has a network hub. For Xbox you just plug the cable into the gaming system and it finds other Xbox's. Is the PStwo the same way?

Arguing won't solve your problem!

I can ensure you that it works with two standard patch cables and a hub or a switch, you don't need a PC or a router. It may well be that the cable you need is a twisted pair cable (or crossover, it's the same), but the Playstations didn't see each other because the network settings were wrong. You must get your network settings right, or the Playstations will never see each other, not even with a switch or a router. See if you can find a document how to set this up in this forum.

I have been experiencing the same problem with GT4. Other LAN based games (SW Battlefront) work fine on the 3 PS2's and TV's in the house via a Linksys router. PS Tech support is telling me that the "Waiting for Connection" screen can go for 2-4 minutes before it connects. Evidently it takes an extended period of time according to tech support's notes for the game to connect with the other PS2's.

It seems like people are taking potshot guesses like I dont have the game yet but I am sure it works and these sort of quotes. Well, before I got the GT4..I was pretty sure it works as well.

If you enter that field, some icons with characters will pop up you can write your name with. How did you put your name into the highscores in GT3 without a keyboard? Don't make it harder than it really is!

We managed to connect 6 Playstations (PS2 and PStwo) through LAN, and it didn't take them longer than 10 seconds to find each other. If the screen stops at "waiting for connection", your network settings are wrong. The actual problem is how to get it right.
