Sometime last week I saw new Chevy Lumina SS Coupe on the way home from work. It looked like a rebadged Holden Monero. Looked up some information on the web and found this link,

You are about to enter the world of Chevrolet Lumina. A world of style, performance, comfort and strength. A world where Lumina has evolved to let you experience the freedom you deserve. Proudly introducing the car that you have been waiting for. Lumina 2003. Engineered for the Middle East.
Just right, then.

If Chevrolet brings back the Lumina, I'll eat my face off. The demise of said vehicle was one of the reasons 1999 was so damn cool.

Incidentally, Chevrolet doesn't need another coupe - keep in mind the original Lumina coupe was cancelled partly because the Monte Carlo was doing better than it in sales, and it was a new face they could put into NASCAR.

Personally, I don't think you saw a Lumina Coupe, but if I actually gave a damn I'd call up Josh's mother. Or something...

Holden Monaro will be sold in the US in '04 as the Pontiac GTO. Is that what you saw?

if you look at these pics you can see that the Cadillac Catera was based off of the Holden Commodore

look closely at the roof and doors

the commodore shown is the 2002 Holden Commodore Acclaim
holden designed this body from scratch and came out in 1998

I liked it - it was supposed to be aimed at the Infinit I30, Lexus ES300 and Acura TL (the low end of that segment) but Cadillac didn't realise that no buyer considering an Infiniti, Lexus, and Acura would also consider a Cadillac. Of course, that was 1997, and with the help of the Escalade appearing in everybody and his dog's rap video, Cadillac's image has made a bit of a turnaround - the Catera replacement, the CTS, is doing better than predicted by analysts.

Nope it was a Lumina SS, It had an Arizona Manufacture License Plate on it. GM has one of their Proving Grounds in Arizona.

So maybe they were hot-weather testing it for later use in the Middle East. There's no reason for them to bring the Lumina to the US.

why would they test a australian car (for the middle east) when that same car has been tested many times in the Australian desert which is just as hot not if hoter that arizona?

the lumina model range for the middle east is a rebadged holdens made about 20kms from where i live

and i have seen the lumina SS's and SS coupes in the docks waiting to be shipped

Hell if I know, it makes no sense - even if they were planning on releasing it here, why hot-weather test it, since it's endured the same tests before in different markets?

Leading me back to my first belief that he didn't see what he thinks he's seen.

unless it was privately imported because the middle east versions are also left hand drive?
or they are used for head GM guys to have a good idea what the GTO will be like (once again the lumina not the monaro because the lumina is already left hand drive)

There are a quite a few of the 300kw (400) Holden GTO's now in New Zealand. They go really well for what they are. Though honestly I still don't mind making one look bad on the odd time or two. The body kits here and Aussie may be different then when they reach the states. Will be interesting to see what sort of kit the put on them for the USDM.

you are getting mixed up with the 255KW and 300KW HSV GTO and GTS

the one going to the US is 260KW Pontiac GTO's

Manufacturer plates are only given to vehicle manufacturers, so it's probably not specially imported - the second version could be true, but if they're going to go to the trouble of importing a Lumina from the Middle East, why not just import some Monaros from Australia?
