over the years, I have noticed that there is such a huge contrast of opinions about volvo's, so my question is whet do you guys think about volvo's?? ,

i've found that since i have a very open mind when it comes to cars, so I dont often say some cars are complete crap, i often look at the good points, i find when people say things such as "domestics suck, imports rule the world"or vise versa, that is being very close minded.

I myself just got a volvo (i'm only 17, and want a car that I dont have to spend tonns of $$ on repairs) And i actually really like it, when i first got it it had the basic 2.3L so it wasnt very quick, (still beat alot of cars off the line, like some civics, older VWs and my buds dodge daytona) but I have since got a new turbo engine, and find it to be a very zippy car! another thing I like about it is its a very refined solid feeling car, when you drive it you can feel the quality, so over all I love this car and have no regrets on purchesing it, other bonuses are this thing is going to last forever!, it has no problems with the canadian winter, other than it can get slippery, but its fun with RWD!!!

Uh...what year is it? I do believe that most volvos have FWD. The new Rs have AWD.

Overall, volvos are good vehicles. Theyre nothign special to write home about, but for a kid, you really cant do better.

My mom has a Volvo S80 T6 and a V70 D5, they're both very nice cars. Nothing special, but very decent, the T6's supposed to be quick, too.

I like Volvos, I'm a big fan.

My Grandma had a 1972 142. It was built like a tank.

Yeah, Volvo's are nice cars. Pretty safe as well. But when something breaks its expensive (at least that's what my aunt says)...

I hate the rear lights. Whenever I drive behind a modern Volvo it appears that they are breaking constantly. The lights are too freaking bright I say.

Nice cars, nonetheless. I love the styling of the boxy Volvos.

They're definitely nice cars, and the interiors are awesome. And while the dropped-sides look that they've employed lately is a nice idea, the rear lights seem saddened by it.

I'll leave it up to Doug to tell you how good/bad it is spec-wise.

Volvo's got a fairly average line, though it is the best in Volvo's history.

The V40/S40 is ****, though it has no competitors except top-spec Imprezas and second-generation Infiniti G20s. I eagerly await the new model, but I see no major improvement.

The C70 is ****, and even Volvo realises that. Nobody buys them new, and the people who do get major discounts. It's overpriced, even after this year's major price cut, and way behind competiton. 2004 is the convertible's last year, fortunately, as the coupe left two years ago due to its unpopularity.

The S60 is actually way behind its class, though few people realise that, so maybe I'm wrong. Its competiton is meant to be high-end 3-series models and low-end 5-series models, but it's overpriced for the former and under-specced for the latter. The R model has no real competiton and falls behind the class on excitement and, its main sales pitch, performance. Nevertheless, the S60 is popular, but there are better choices.

The S80 is way behind its class, the E-class/S-type/5-series. It's too expensive and underpowered to have a Volvo badge, and, though it looks good, it's not a good new buy.

The V70 and XC70 are great, but the Outback's better. Badge-conscious losers buy the Volvo models, and they get the short end of the stick every time. I laugh at them. Ha, ha.

The XC90 is the best luxury SUV for sale, though it hasn't yet gotten the sales recognition it deserves. Hopefully it will, because it really is a great vehicle.

Happy?

Every dang Volvo I see on the road here in LA, with the exception of the sportier, newer, models, is the same way. They consistently maintain a speer 10 mph lower than that of everyone else. They also unpredictably change lanes and cut you off at any opinion, of course, if you try to pass one, they speed up so you can't.

I'm not kidding, this is literally 90 percent of the Volvo behavior I see. Almost everyone I know agrees, too.

So, you can drive a Volvo, but please, don't become a Volvo driver.

Back in the day, my parents used to have a 1985 240DL wagon. That car kicked much ass. I mean, it was a 5-speed. And very nice on the inside. We had to give it up after 185,000 miles or so becuase of the floorboards needed replacing, so did the brakes. Sadly, it was towed away.

I almost got into an accident with some asshat old man driving a Volvo. I was driving along and I came up behind this old man driving a Volvo doing probably 10km/h under the limit on an otherwise empty strech of road, so I change lanes and pass him. About a minute later I come to an intersection where some idiot driving a CRX pulls into the centre median (which is solid yellow lines on both sides and ends about 10ft from where he was) and starts to pull into my lane, except I'm very close to him. So I start to change lanes to avoid a collision, and right at the last second, who do I see beside my right rear fender, none other than that old man Volvo, who somehow got right up to me despite blowing by him about a minute ago (I didn't slow down or have to stop after passing). I stop the lane change to avoid yet ANOTHER collision, hoping that the CRX wont pull in, which he thankfully didn't do.

An old 740? That's probably got a live axle. Notice lots of inside-rear wheelspin when accelerating out of corners?

I've spent time in 740 estates, plus a couple of 940s, and while they were OK, they weren't exceptional. Comfy, easy to dive, reliable, and reasonably quick, which is probably why they generally go to people who don't care about cars.

I also found that you had to settle the car into a corner, then you could get the power down, and push it through. This is probably to do with the low spring rates, and using the dampers for some semblance of body control.
