I think Will Power might win the championship this year. The ovals were keeping him back from winning it the last 3 seasons. He doesn't have to worry about that as much this year.

Christ, these cars are ugly. Tagliani's Barracuda car isn't bad, and I do like the Fuzzy's livery, but the actual cars themselves are hideous. 2013 and the customer aero packages can't come soon enough.

What's so disappointing is that they're ugly for the sake of making them better billboards for sponsors. The fat nose, fat sidepods, oversized rear wing is all there to give the sponsors larger space for logos. In fact, thats one of the biggest reasons the design was chosen.

I can understand and get over the rear wheel covers being ugly because they're there to help safety, but when cars are ugly to make them more sponsor friendly...no.

So far the field is looking very tight and competitive. I'm very much looking forward to seeing how these cars race.

Graham Rahal is my dark horse, he's good at this track and has good equipment.

I'm definitely in the minority, but I actually like the looks of the car for the most part. Sidepods could be a lot smaller, but it beats a platypus nose every day of the week.

I like the looks as well, at first it was ugly but once painted and in motion it looks decent. I think some may have their hopes to high for '13 though, even if there are customer kits I doubt they will vary much from the current kit.

I'm also happy with the fact ABC seems to actually be advertising their races outside of the 500.👍

Barrichello fastest of the drivers who didn't get through the first round if qualifying. Will be interested to see if he makes his way to the top 10 tomorrow

Barrichello was one of the better overtakers in Formula 1, so I think that will transfer over here

With more development I'd like to see these cars go even faster. Half a second faster then the old Dallara isn't quite good enough, even though this is a 60 second lap.

To bad Lotus didn't show well. Reminds me of when they reentered F1 in 2009. Maybe they'll pull their act together for 2013 when team areo kits are introduced.

True, but given the fact that it's currently a spec sires (For the most part), I'd expect the field to be slightly more mixed.

I guess what I'm wondering then is what would happen if Penske used Lotus. Would they still be on top?

Seb ran a 1'02.4 in final practice and was only .5 behind so the engine isnt terrible. The drivers have been complaining that the new curbing is too high so that has to be affecting the times.

BTW the pole in the CCWS race here in 2003 was 1'00.928

They only say that Houston is in negotiations to rejoin the calendar. They don't say where the race might be held. A quick check of the city in Google Maps shows there is plent of potential for a decent circuit - mostly because Houston is not built exclusively on a grid pattern - like this:

Although it's probably a bit long for Indycar.

Because I don't get NBC Sports Network, I'll have to enjoy IndyCar Series highlights or coverage on the ESPN/ABC networks. I'm ready for the new season... are you? It is still surreal to not have the amazing Dan Wheldon as part of the IndyCar grid. I miss Danica as well, but Dan Wheldon... heck of a driver. He always was.

I actually like the newer Indy car designs. It will be great to actually see these machines in action and driven in anger. And can you believe this will be the ninth time St. Petersburg has been raced on? Time passes so fast, I tell you!

* Fans- enjoy the race!
* Drivers and teams - best wishes and luck to all of you. Put on a great show for all of us!

You know what those back ends remind me of?
The back end of a Lamborghini.

Does anybody else see it.?
