Someone can get a stock GT-R in under 1:40 easy.

Someone boasted.

Someone didn't read CH TIRES!

Someone got in the corner and cried.

All in all, can't wait to see a high powered RWD car lap. You need a better name though; how about: the hot lap SUPERSTAR.

Getting 1:39 in the GT-R is possible with a wheel, maybe. If I give it more laps, I could do a high 1:40 on the DS3.

I tend to only do 3-5 laps before I want to move on.

I just tested the Corvette Stingray. Holy cow is that car insane on CH tires. I tried and tried to get 1:43 but no such luck...

Perhaps one of you will take the challenge? Just buy the car, equip CH tires and go racing!

I believe there are 200-250 premium cars, but some of them will be too powerful for CH tires. I will omit those as I come across them.
I think it's wise to leave race cars off the list, but I can't think of any reason to do so for any other car. I'm not a fan of Laguna Seca but I have some good seat time in the Veyron, Huayra, Red Devil and Toronado on CH.

On another note, I didn't say anything but found it a bit odd (and inappropriate) that you chose to upgrade to SH on the Cappuccino [at Suzuka] comparison--good on you for heading the other way this go round.

You can tame the Huayra on CH tires?! You are a God among men, sir. I dread that car, and the FXX...

The Veyron, now there's a car I need to test tomorrow...I wonder if it would be in the 1:20's.

As for the Red Devil and Toronado, only one of each of those cars exist, so I'm not going to test those. I only want to test cars that were mass-produced or at least limited production.

The issue with the Huayra is getting the front end to grab, most of the adjustments to driving technique for MR go out the window with it and I find I'm almost taking an FF approach. Brakes are a bear too, as it comes with Racing Brakes as standard and [unless SRF is forced on or I'm having considerable difficulty with the task at hand] I generally have ABS disabled--I think I had the most success with pressure reduced to 2.
The Veyron wasn't a stretch...I regularly run it on CM as the compound required to maintain structural integrity at speed was really quite hard.

I buy CH for all new cars (racing models excluded) to get a baseline--they're really quite telling when it comes to a car's behavior.

Maybe sticking to the tire the car is supplied with is best. It would get you a better read on the intended performance of the car.

Intended by whom? Those who employed arbitrary and unrealistic alignment values as part of an unnecessary physics engine fix because people couldn't control some cars?

I'll stick with my way...

Reduced grip amplifies driving characteristics and makes limits known much sooner than they would be with the overly-grippy tires supplied as default.

Great work but how can you get a realistic time for cars with only 3-5 laps?

Because I'm a good driver

I restart the lap often if I fall behind my ghost at all. I don't waste time finishing a lap if I can see my ghost in front of me.

It takes me anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes to test a car.

It's well known that cars in GT come with better tires than they should to acvomodate the majority of players who prefer a more arcade experience! Usually 1-2 sets down would be normal.
My general rule CM -Sports Tyres
CS - road legal Semi Slicks

Wow, this shows how overpowered the Elise '11 is...

I think they messed up the PP calculations on that car.
well, no. It is a light car designed to go fast on corners. And Laguna seca is almost everything corners. Do the same test at Monza and it would be very slow.
I don't doubt that you are a good driver just that 3-5 laps on CH to get close to a cars potential is pretty tough.
This is a lot of "work". I suppose doing 15,20 or more laps with every car would take forever :)

Fixed, but we all knew the bulk of MR cars were 'cheat' cars. The GSXR is a beast for the PP, the MR2's and MR-S's... etc.

The Elise has next to no horsepower like 120-130, weighs nothing though. It may not be a straight line best, but with a good tune can corner upto 5 mph faster than most (not all) other cars.

Great work @SuzukaStar as always. CH on high powered Rear drive cars ought to be fun.

We have our first tie!

1:52.889 - 414 - Honda Civic Type R '08
1:52.889 - 429 - Ford Focus ST '13

I'd rather drive the Honda.

In the Mazda RX-7 Spirit R Type A '02: 1'46.456...by far not my best effort and only after 7 laps. I'm not sure about me being able to hit the 1'45 mark but I'm sure you might be bowing to someone on down the line if certain people decide to try this. :sly: I don't think 1'45 is that far out of reach for a few people. For me, I think I could probably hit around 1'45.8xx with a solid effort so judging from my average skill set, the more skilled people will be able to get a lot closer to that 1'45 mark than I can.

A great challenge nonetheless and I had fun throwing the Mazda around my favorite track. 👍 Will give the Beamer a try later.

Personally I would not bother with the CH tires on anything with more than 200hp
No idea why some would complain about SH tires. RS I can see why people would complain or even R tires on any non race car but CH tires on a sports car is not realistic in the other direction especially when using the same tires on a old low powered non sports car.

Better to just use the tires that come on the car

While not quite as dominant at high speed tracks it's still one of the top cars at just about every circuit in the game. The car is dramatically underrated in the PP system.

For the challenge mate, for the challenge:cheers:

I suppose but then when you compare laps times it makes the lower powered cars seem closer in performance to the higher powered cars simply because the higher powered cars can not put the power to the road due to the inferior tires being placed on them.

The point being that the lap time comparison is not really valid when the better cars are handicapped in such a way.

Well, it is not the only one, there are always some dominant cars for every PP. Have you tried the Miura? Or the RX500? Or the Focus RS? Or the Spyker? To give some examples...
Also there's the oppsite too, cars that are horribly slow for their PP.

All true, but that wasn't the point you originally tried to make. You were trying to say that the Elise wasn't good at Monza or other tracks with big straights and few corners and that just isn't the case.

Valid in relation to what? I don't think @SuzukaStar is trying to prove anything with this, it's just for fun.

The most powerful FR that I've tested so far is the Corvette Z06 C6 with 541 PP, and I didn't have too much difficulty putting the power down on CH tires using the DS3.

I think its far from the best in high speed tracks. Adding ballast to reduce its PP certainly makes it go faster though. But with the weight to the minium its PP rises sky high and it lacks a lot of power.

That's what I usually do also unless I really want to challenge myself then I will down grade the tires. On the flip side though, the CH tires on the cars that @SuzukaStar has tested here will help you develop better throttle and brake control along with smoother steering inputs, that's for sure. 👍

Not sure where 200hp comes into play--when does grip increase as power does? Still, "putting power down" is a function of linear grip, and that really boils down to throttle control and being comfortable enough with a set car/course combination that you know when you can get away with more liberal application.
I have no delusions that CH is the most appropriate tire for all cars, but it's generally easier to reduce the grip at your disposal than it is to increase it. I also feel that this isn't so much a debate over tire compounds as it is merely a fun challenge. As much as I dislike the track, I've even been getting some seat time thanks to this list.

I'm just glad he is putting everything in ONE thread, instead of a hundred threads for the same track lap times with different cars. :sly:

Oh, and that he using Comforts tires this time round, Comfort Tires FTW!
