Hey guys and girls, I was just having fun with the almighty app "apex something something" and having a look at the car database. I remembered having seen duplicate cars such as the Vauxhall/Opel all being the same and the Renault Sport Clio/Lutecia sca... but I found a few more from Mazda... any way I would like to know if some of you have already taken the trouble of documenting this and could tell me how many they are.

So the ones I found are Mazda Demio being the same as Mazda 2, the Altezza which is a duplicate of the Mazda 6 and Cosmo Sport being there again as a 110S.

IMO this is just for keeping the car count. I wish PD could just release the next game saying "it has many cars" avoiding this borderline scammy practice.

Such a list depends on what definition of "duplicate" you want to use. E.g. the Mazda2/Demio is interesting, because the Mazda2's PP-figure is 1 higher than the Demio, although everything else we can see is identical.

The following criteria can be used to define duplicates:
  • Make (There's duplicates like Opel/Vauxhall, Lexus/Toyota, Nissan/Infiniti, ...)
  • Price (although, if it is a duplicate and has a different price, there's some exterior difference mostly, like the Skyline R34 MNP's, even if it's just the colour)
  • Year (e.g. Honda/Acura HSC '03/'04, S2000 '03/S2000 (US) '04, ...)
  • Power (unexplainable differences for obvious duplicates, e.g. Honda Dualnote/Acura DN-X)
  • Weight (e.g. Nissan March 12c/Micra '03 - different by 10kg, hence 1PP difference, everything else the same)
  • PP (see Mazda2/Demio above)
  • Torque (curve): (some have slightly different torque curves, although that will mostly also change the PP-figure)
  • Exterior: (rear wing on Hyundai Coupe/Tiburon/Tuscani '01 - performance & else identical)
For myself I have two definitions of it. A duplicate in the narrower sense is every car that is the exact same underneath (i.e. in performance). That means that power, weight and PP have to be the same to constitute a duplicate. A duplicate in the wider sense would also include those that essentially are the same car, but differ only very slightly (either by mistake, or by a minute difference). The Mazda2/Demio would fit the wider definition.

For an exact count, I would have to consult my own list (which I don't have access to at the moment), but I estimate the number of duplicates to be somewhere around 200 (by my definitions).

I did something like this for standard cars a little while back, but as snowgt says, peoples definitions of duplicate and unique vary a lot. This lead to the thread i made pretty much becoming an argument over what cars were unique enough and which weren't but, if your after an approximate number I can give you one.

There is about 275 duplicate standard cars, according to a unique car meeting one of these criteria...
- The only car of a specific model generation included in the game
-The best performing model of various similar cars of a specific model generation unless significant differences in appearance power, weight or drivetrain are apparant.

It's hard to explain, so here's the link. Hope this is sorta what you were after...

Thank you for that. Following your categorization I am mainly interested in Make, Year and well... Model. I know you didn't put model there but that would be a case such as the Demio/Mazda 2. It they have different PP it shouldn't really matter to us since that is just a number given by PD, I mean fine if they want to alter it just to makes us think they are different they can go ahead but they don't fool me. Same goes for weight, if they re-badge say an Opel Tigra and put it as a different as a Vauxhall Tigra and change the weight by 1KG it is still the same car plus we can always perform a weight reduction or put some ballast to increase it, there is no need for having both they just do it to pad the car count.

I found a couple more the other day which were a bit funny and they are the Pontiac Vibe GT and the Toyota Voltz S.

Thank you for that Hayden it was very useful. I will try to do something similar but with photos to show how they are scamm:censored: us. Now it is funny to see they have also padded the count with Premium models and I am not talking about the Nascar cars, they have put about 20 Base models, you have +10 Stealth cars and they threw in the Chromium line, there are also those "specially tuned by GT and given a new livery..."

I would be happy to have 400 unique cars all premium and not feel like they are trying to cheat.

A good form of finding duplicates which are exactly equal is using the search function, with cars between price A and B, and sort them by price. Then they will appear right next to each other.

We should put the complete list in the OP

I have been very busy, I'll try to get it going. I'm also absolutely horrible for this kind of things. But any way thanks for that tip and also if you find a copy paste car let me know. thanks again :)

This is circa GT5. I was too depressed about GT6's ultimate refusal to fix basic things to spend enough time with it to update it, but it's much worse (due to the new Premium duplicates, as well as nonsense like the Base models and Stealth models being included in the car count). It's also what I would consider extremely generous because if I wasn't sure about a car (like the Japanese Honda S2000 yearly variations) I just left them off even when it seemed pretty obvious that they were duplicates, nor did I include any of the duplicates where both of them were Premium cars (like the Suzuki Swift), though I'm still wary of including the Dodge version of the Viper GTS-R:

*The 2007 Premium model is technically an automatic, but it isn't modeled like one and both cars are modeled so poorly in general that I don't consider the distinction important.

Wow that's a huge list, to give credit to PD they did delete some cars. These are the ones where you had two versions of the car one as a standard and one as a premium, for instance the Jaguar XJR-9 '88

No NSX's on that list, it can't be possible!

My personal favourite "S Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren '03", Grrrrrr!!!
