[PC] DCS 1.5 & 2.0 Open Alpha

Do you have your swimming suit with you? I saw some heavy flooding in Bulgaria on the news..

Hope you're okay đź‘Ť
I got my bathing suit all right. I'm soaking in the Black Sea :sly: But it's raining like everyday. The floods are far away in the west.

I've been hardcore AFK for a while :( Just did a little snooping around on the interwebs and found all the news updates I missed. EDGE and 2.0 sound interesting.

Found this post from a dev and got excited:

As a basic outline, here are our current development intentions:

August 2014 – Fw 190 D-9 Dora
October 2014 - BF-109K
December 2014- Spitfire IX
March 2015 - P-47D-30
May 2015 - Normandy Map with period AI units
Other features like the Me.262A-1 and AI-only B-17G are also in development we but do not have a delivery data estimate at this time until these other features are further along.

Spitfire by the end of the year sounds mighty nice. But so does this...

As such, projects like the F/A-18C, Su-27 PFM

I'll buy the Hornet the day it comes out.

New EDGE maps:
Nevada
Normandy (1944)

I'm up for a change of scenery. Both those maps could be fun. But...

VEAO possible maps:
Mach Loop – Welsh Valleys

THIS NEEDS TO HAPPEN!!!

I would love to fly a Hornet in DCS. It'll probably be a little more complex than the last time I flew a Hornet though.

f-a-18-hornet_10.png

The Fw-190 is fun to fly. It feels more powerful than the P-51 and rolls faster. Those cannons are nice too. I've been flying the F-86 more though. The AI MiG-15 is almost supernatural, so it makes a good fight if you're looking for a really challenging battle.

I'm also waiting on the F-18. I'd really love a DCS F-15, but the F-18 is going to be the closest thing for a while.

I've been using the F-15 more recently trying to get practice for online.
So far it's been an ECM nighmare.

So much jamming...

Looks like you're a on server with a lot of AI aircraft. They never turn off ECM. Try to practice estimating jamming range. If you lock on to them from above, you can estimate range by looking at what part of the ground the source is coming from. You can also filter jammers by altitude by adjusting your radar elevation. Except for long range fighters and people flying very high and very fast, if you can't break someone's ECM, they're not close enough to attack you.

New or improved maps and F-18 is just  I'm sure it's worth the wait!

I was in a single mission.
The hard part was that there were friendlies in among that cluster.

By the time I get into the furball it's hard to assess the situation when surrounded by half a dozen bandits.

Yes, one of the shortcomings of offline, you can't communicate with anyone. Nothing has been announced yet, but I'm hoping ECM and Command and Control get some upgrades with 2.0. All the fighters acting as if they were stand off jammers gets old, and it's pretty one dimensional.

Because the Russian fighters have external jammers, I'm going to try to load up a mission and remove the jammers to see if that helps any.

I'm going to hop online in an F-15, anyone want to join?

Edit

Got one sortie in, took off and headed along the waypoints when I found my first target, an SU-27.

Got a shot off but he ducked behind the mountains, tried to fire another one off when he came back over (Well within the kill zone.) but I didn't see if it had come off the rails so I kept pressing and cycling the weapons till I saw it launch, turned out I used 7 missiles.:ouch:

He crashed trying to evade the missile, and there was another contact closing fast.
I don't think he saw me as he passed right overhead, got a shot off but it missed. There was a MiG behind me and since it was a server with all aircraft on each side, I had to treat it as hostile. (It was.) Chased the 2nd aircraft down the mountains trying to gun it down when I really needed a Sidewinder.

Couldn't kill it and ended up having to go full afterburner towards base with the MiG in pursuit the whole way until a friendly took off and dealt with it.

Found a whole bunch of practice missions too, go to the "Mission mode and under FC3 go backwards through the folder until you see "FC2". Click on the DACT for a large variety of scenarios.

Finally got the Flanker in the heaters only 1v1.:D

The Russian infrared missiles are so much better than the American ones that you can't go head on, I had to drag him around a mountain and surprise him when he was turned away.

Being activated in DCS later this year/early next year:

I might not use it online though, I have to see how it performs vs the R-73 and R-27ET. The F-15 is already king of BVR (though until AMRAAM guidance is fixed it's a weak king), the better Russian WVR performance was sort of a natural balancing point.

Was reading on the Eagle Dynamics forum and came by something interesting. I wasn't aware of all this and hasn't been spoken of, so this is great news:

hawk_dcs.jpg
tiffy_render.jpg

From their website:
Our development program consists of creating realistic European aircraft and our current development plan includes the BAE Hawk T.1A Trainer and the Eurofighter Typhoon.

So as I said I was reading on the Eagle Dynamics forums and found this:
Well we have alot of other juicy stuff coming out in the mean time, including 2 other early jets ;-)

Pman

Is that unannounced early jets? Or ones on the list?

Two from the list, no point having a list if u don't do anything from it is there hehe

Pman

According to the list the Hawk was scheduled for July/August and the Typhoon for 2015 but who knows.

The Hawk is a pretty sure thing as it's already in beta for some time now. Expect weekend not next weekend but the one after that for release. (September 13/14)

I'm super excited about the Typhoon, would be so awesome if it came out this year already. Then I'd have to find someone to make me this:

Hmmm TrackIR. Almost forgot. I want that too.. That webcam thing isn't ever going to work
Well, here's the thing, it worked perfect like 2 times and never again. The problem could be on my end since I have a $5 "A4Tech" Chinese Webcam  This P.O.S.:

I figured out why my DS3 wasn't working :I, well working poorly It wasn't set to 360 Gamepad in motionjoy.

Pre-purchase DCS: Bf 109 K-4 KurfĂĽrst!

The Fighter Collection and Eagle Dynamics are happy to announce that DCS: Bf 109 K-4 KurfĂĽrst is now available as a pre-purchase from the DCS E-Shop

The pre-purchase provides both a 20% discount off the retail price and access to the Open Beta coming later this year.

Like previous DCS World titles, DCS: Bf 109 K-4 KurfĂĽrst features a painstakingly reproduced model of the aircraft, including the external model, fully interactive cockpit, mechanical systems, and a Professional Flight Model (PFM). Along the lines of our DCS: P-51D Mustang and DCS: Fw 190 D-9 Dora titles, DCS: Bf 109K-4 KurfĂĽrst places you behind the controls of a powerful, propeller-driven, piston engine combat aircraft. Designed long before "fly-by-wire" technology was available to assist the pilot in flight control or smart bombs and beyond visual range missiles were developed to engage targets with precision from afar, the KurfĂĽrst is a personal and exhilarating challenge to master. Powerful and deadly, the last production model of the only single-engined German fighter to see service throughout World War II, the KurfĂĽrst provides an exhilarating combat experience to its drivers, and a worthy challenge to all fans of DCS: P-51D Mustang.

Key Features of the DCS: Bf 109 K-4 KurfĂĽrst:
Unmatched flight physics that allow you to truly feel what it's like to fly this legend.
Highly detailed, six-degrees-of-freedom (6 DOF) cockpit.
Interact with cockpit controls with your mouse.
Accurate Bf 109 K-4 model, squadron markings, and weapons.
Detailed modelling the Bf 109 K-4 instruments, weapons, engine, radios, fuel, and electrical systems.
Fly along with fellow DCS: Fw 190 D-9 Doras as you battle DCS: P-51D Mustangs in single and multiplayer games.

Sabre and Dora Update

Over the past month we released two pre-purchase modules, with access to Open Betas, for DCS World: DCS: F-86F Sabre and DCS: Fw 190 D-9 Dora. We are carefully reading your feedback and we and Belsimtek (Sabre Team) are busy improving the projects. This includes not only bug fixes, but also new content such as interactive training missions and campaigns. This is not to say that work is not continuing on other previously released projects. For example: Work on the manual for the DCS: Mi-8MTV2 and tuning of the F-15C professional flight model continues, also various adjustments and bug fixes are in work.

In addition to the release of DCS: Fw 190 D-9 Dora, the team is also plugging away on the next aircraft for the series: DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst. This is being done internally by Eagle Dynamics to the same exacting standards of the Dora. The pre-purchase with 20% discount is now available and we plan to make the Open Beta available in the October – November time frame.Other warbirds in work for this project include both the P-47D and Spitfire. These will be welcome additions to the growing stable of Second World War aircraft as we flesh out this era of air combat.

The other major element of DCS World War II: Europe 1944 is of course the new Normandy map. The team is currently working on a new combat theater map to support DCS: F/A-18C Hornet, but once complete, will be returning to this map. At that time, we should be able to start sharing images of the new era map, complete with period ground units.

DCS: L-39C and L-39ZA Albatros Coming to DCS World

Another new aircraft coming to DCS World later in 2014 will be the venerable L-39 jet trainer, developed by Eagle Dynamics. We will first release the L-39C variant and then later the L-39ZA variant. This aircraft has acted as the primary jet trainer for many countries around the world for several decades. In addition to its training role, the L-39 can also be loaded with ordnance and act as a light attack aircraft.

We also plan for this module to include multiplayer front seat / back seat capability. We believe that this feature will add a new dimension of gameplay for this aircraft and several others like the UH-1H, Mi-8MTV2, Hawk, and C-101.

Stay tuned for more details!

Su-27 for DCS World

As we did for the F-15C, we will be updating the Su-27 for DCS World to include a Professional level flight model. Development of this updated Flanker is well underway and will be free as part of Flaming Cliffs 3. We will also sell the Su-27 for DCS World as a separate download later in 2014.

DCS: MiG-15Bis Coming to DCS World

As a perfect bookshelf match to the F-86F Sabre, Belsimtek in cooperation with Eagle Dynamics are developing the MiG-15Bis for DCS World! As with the Sabre, the MiG-15Bis will be a fully detailed module with Professional Flight Model (PFM), mouse-interactive cockpit, and detailed cockpit systems.

Combined with new maps, the battle of Sabre's vs. MiGs will be an amazing experience and further help us achieve our goal of providing an air combat experience spanning several decades.

MiG-21Bis, Hawk and C-101 Coming Soon to DCS

A couple of years ago, we started the initial steps of allowing qualified third parties to develop and sell modules for DCS World. The fruits of this effort are almost ripe and have taken the form of the MiG-21Bis (Leatherneck Simulations), Hawk (VAEO Simulations), and the C-101 (AvioDev). All three projects are making great progress and are either in or close to the Eagle Dynamics testing phase. We see these as just the tip of the iceberg for future partner projects.

Nevada Test and Training Range (NTTR) Map

Work continues on the NTTR map. The primary objective is to adapt the various map assets to work within DCS World. Once this effort is complete and DCS World 2.0 is available, we plan to release this map soon afterwards.

DCS World 2.0 Coming in 2014

The next iteration of DCS World (formerly 1.3.0) is currently in internal testing and will be available as a free download later in 2014. All DCS modules will be fully compatible with DCS World 2.0. As with DCS World 1.0, 2.0 will also include the FREE TF-51D and Su-25T. New features of DCS World 2.0, but subject to change, include:

DirectX 11 support
Improved game performance
New and improved lighting
Improved effects
New water animations
Improved shadows
Unified GUI that eliminates the need for separate GUI and simulation .exe while also speeding up mission load times. Later, this will also allow us to integrate simulation elements into the Encyclopaedia and Mission Editor
Ability to access new maps that will be sold as separate modules
New grass and clutter
New clouds
Ability to create dedicated server
Skeleton animations
Depth of field support
Improved Oculus VR support
Some of these features may not be included in the initial DCS World 2 release.

DCS: F/A-18C Hornet Update

Perhaps the most eagerly awaited DCS module, the Hornet, is indeed in progress... it really does exist! More so than any other of our past and current projects though, the Hornet requires a massive amount of work, not just the creating of the art assets and programming of the cockpit functions, but also a great deal of research, design documentation, building of supersonic aircraft flight dynamics (F-15C with BST and Su-27 have been helping to create this technology), acquiring source data, and creating several new technologies like air-to-surface radar.

In addition to the actual aircraft, there are other elements that need to be created such as an improved Nimitz-class aircraft carrier, much better carrier operations, and a new combat theater map tailored to this aircraft.

We hear you and realize that many of you are very anxious and looking forward to hearing more about this project. As we get closer to an early beta, we will be discussing this more.

Here are some very early images of the cockpit.

Sincerely,
The Eagle Dynamics Team

That's great, quite a few things I look forward to! :)

Good to read the F15 is still getting updates and the Su-27 getting it's own professional flight model. Those new L-39's are cool too, I think this would be a perfect free DCS World 2 plane since it's a real training plane.

And then, boy oh boy what do I read now!
multiplayer front seat / back seat capability

I was joking two days ago with my buddy about this, 'what if we had VR glasses then we could sit behind each other!' and now probably in a year it's reality :D

I'm excited about the F/A-18C although we all knew it was coming anyway. And the new Hawk, Mig-15, Mig-21  Then we still have third party Eurofighter Typhoon coming soon too

DCS in 2015 will be great

Question for you guys - Are the models in Flaming Cliffs 3 the same as the in the individual plane DLC? I thought I saw that the FC3 models weren't as realistic, but that was a while ago and it seems like they've been adding the advanced/professional models. Looks like all the modules are on sale through Steam for the next 12 hours or so, and FC3 seems like the best deal with 7 airframes.

Yes, the DCS A-10A, SU25A, and F-15 are all the same as the ones in FC3.
The FC3 models are not full fidelity, so there are no clickable cockpits. The 25, A-10A, and F-15 are all Advanced Flight Model aircraft, while the others are Simple Flight Model. The F-15 changed a lot when they made the switch form SFM to AFM.

FC3 is good for variety, but if you learn to use the A-10C or KA-50 it's a much more rewarding experience.
