Thanks for the offer but the PC it is installed on has some random issue with the internetz for no apparent reason. Plus I've only just got back into it after over a year of not touching a PC sim.

EDIT: Just done a few laps around Sebring for the first time. Got down to a 2:10 in a Murcielago R-GT, which I didn't think was bad considering the accelerator pedal only goes down 75%.

Don't really know where to put this, but whatever, this is a WIP improved sound mod for the 787B that I started about a day or two ago.

/cast Resurrection

Anyone have the updated AIW for Grand Valley Speedway? The pace car sits in the middle of the track, and the AI is seriously lacking in the "I" department. They always slam into the pace car. I've read that there's a fix that moves the pace car off the track, but nobody has the file up for download anymore. If you've got it, let me know please!

I just got the game this week and I managed to find the SCC mods(LMES, ALMS and LM24Hr 1998-2008) and the DTM mod. Overall, I like what I've experianced so far. Its been quite an adjustment to the physics Obviously, but has been quite enjoyable. Looking forward to some great racing on here 👍

I bought the GTR2 game, it looks like an awesome sim. Trouble is I don't know how to set up my G25 wheel, it feels awful under Win 7. Also, the paddles do not work for manual shifting. Can anyone point me in the right direction?'

Thank you

I want to bump this thread up for everybody who never played this game. GTR2 is still a superb racing simulator. Better and more realistic physics than GT5, (and I love GT5 physics). Better and faster AI (and you can customize it, you can select with a slide how fast you want them and how you want them, the way the race: clean, real, or dirty, and this is a GREAT feature. Now with my last video setting I've found a way to run it at 60fps and it is SUPERB, the way the car handle, the way the brakes react... the tracks, the sound, and yes.. the graphic. No jiggy shadows, no standard cars, no camera tilting in dashboard view, everthing work as it should. The cars grip and suspension feel real, the atmosphere feel real: the safety car, the flag rules, the team radio, box speed limits, the aggressive engines sound, everything we always asked to Poliphony seems to be in GTR2. Strange isn't it? Only thing I feel still better in GT5 is the level of detail of premium cars (when you look at them in the Showroom) because when you watch a replay even with premium cars the ugly shadows comes up. If Poliphony want to inspire themselves and improve thier game they really should give GTR2 a go, and all of you if love sim racing but you are getting a bit tired of all the problems in GT5, or you just curious start considering to buy SimBin's gem. You want be disappointed and you don't need a super computer.

My laptop is a Dual Core Duo P8700, hard disk 500GB, memory 4GB, and a quite weak grapic card still able to run it 1280x1024 at 60fps. I've downloaded logitech drivers for my DFGT.. and magic happens! 👍

yeah, this game is just fantastic...the game on the ps3 it makes me feel as gtr2 is Ferrari challenge and supercar challenge...

i have a good pc, 2500k@4500mhz, 4 gb ram, gtx480...and believe me the graphics are fantastic...the only absent thing is the hdr, and if you want that effect, enbseries makes a great job there...i play on 2560*1440, 8xs, 4aa supersampling transparency, some graphic modes( except enbseries, i do not like it), 36 car grid, everthing max out, 60fps is locked...some times drops below 60fps to 45 fps( 36 car start on night and and raining)...bad optimization...

changeable wheather, day and night transition, 36 car grids( even more if you want), perfect damage, superb ai, great g25 adjust and ffb, just every thing you want in a racing game...

and again gtr2 is a racing game, just as ferrari challenge and supercar challenge...gt5 is a driving game, a car porno game...i want real racing cars and real world tracks(especially spa, infenion, silverstone) in a racing game, not want to have 30 different type of mazda street car or nissan street car...

looking for gtr3...

Just curious, then why play GT if it's not what you want?

i did noy play gt5 anymore, do not worry...i am on gtr2 and rbr now...
i sold my ps3, goes on pc sims with more features, better hardware support...

Nice video Schu!

How did you capture it? Also, what is the add-on on the upper left corner? I used to have it for rFactor, can't find it now since I don't know its name.

PS; was it really too much to ask PD after 6 years to have decent sound effects like GTR2?

Definitely SimBin take Poliphony to school in AI, suspension movements, sounds and overall realism. If you consider with the right computer you can run it at insanely detailed resoltions.. I can't see the point to buy a PS4 in the future.. a PC for gaming without a doubt.

The sounds are good, but they can be even better. Look up sound mods by Thinlane T for GTR2 if you still play.

Great sounds.👍

The original sounds in GTR2 need a little bit more of post production fx to be honest, but they are clearly more realistic and agressive than GT5. Anyway thanks for the tip I'll do a search in the next days 👍

With the current PSN fiasco I am now looking into building a PC that can run GTR2 and rFactor. I have a feeling the PSN will continue to be the target of attacks so it might be time to jump ship.

My uncle had a tower laying around, we're fixing it up and I'm going to try to run some racing sims on it. I believe the specs are 2.5ghz processor, 256mb video card, 1GB RAM (will be expanded to whatever the max is) Does it sound like I'll be able to run GTR2 at a decent graphic setting with it? I know it's not the most powerful tower, but I did some research on the system requirements and I think it's plenty powerful to run the game with the graphic settings turned up pretty high.

What do you guys think? Any recommendations? Is there still plenty of online racing to be found with GTR2?

Ok, I found out that the tower actually has no video or sound card, but has a pretty good AMD Athelon 3000 processor. It can have up to 1gb of RAM but I'm going to try building it up. I looked around on newegg and found several 512mb and 1gb video cards but not real sure what I should get. I also have no idea on sound cards, but I don't need a super fancy one.

Do you guys have any recommendations on a good video card and decent sound card? I'd like to spend about $100 on the video card and maybe $50 each on sound card and stronger power source. Plus the newest version of GTR2 and all the updates/mods. Does this sound feasible, price-wise?

Well to give you an idea, I run a XFX 4850 1GB. I've had the card for about 2 years almost I guess and I can max the game out with zero issues. 4GB ram and a e5300 intel cpu.

Is the motherboard pci express? Post the model number of the motherboard. If you don't know, you can download a free program called speccy.

It gives you the stats of your pc and you can take a screenshot.

Thanks for your response. I had this tower given to me so I don't know a whole lot about it but I found the specs for the motherboard here:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00063254&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=&product=388431

I don't see anything that says whether it's pci express or not. It doesn't have a network card in it yet so I can't connect to that site to find out its specs. I do have a question though, the spec sheet says it can hold 2 1gb sticks of RAM for 2gb total but HP recommends a max of 1gb. Why is that? Would putting 2gb in it cause some sort of problem? I'd like it to have as much RAM as possible, of course.

Thanks in advance for your help. 👍

To tell you the truth, I'm not sure if it could run the game full detail. I'm trying to think when the AthlonXP's came out.

That motherboard was released in September 2003, so it is quite old. You could stick a AGP Card in it and trying running it with 2gb of ram, but it may just be putting money into something that may not work. You'd be buying old tech with an AGP card, and have to buy old ram.

What city do you live in? I could search your local craigslist and find you some good deals with good prices and go from there. I could help build you a cheap box that will run it full detail no problem.

*edit....saw your location. I'll just spec some stuff out for you.

Throw him an offer of $300 without monitor

I did some research on the AMD processor and it's equivalent to a 3ghz Pentium 4, and supposedly handled games very well. I know it's older, but rFactor and GTR2 are older so I'm hoping it can run them, maybe not full detail but something decent.

Thanks for looking that up for me, but it's out of my price range. I got this tower for free and I'm willing to put $150-200 into it if it can run either of these games decently. I know it won't be the fastest on the block, but as long as the cars and track look pretty good I'll be ok with it. But, if you really think the processor wouldn't hold up at all then maybe I shouldn't even worry about it. My hope was that if I load it up on memory and toss a powerful video card in it then I could get by, but I do understand there are some limitations and I'm just trying to find out what they are.

I totally understand where you're coming from.

I think you could get the game to run, but with a full grid of cars that might be a different story.

Here is this for $140, then you can add in a video card and you'd be set for all simbin games.

http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/sys/2375153893.html

That card in there might even run the game fine. It's just at least your getting a newer computer for your money, then upgrading an old one with old parts. I've contacted the guy to see what type of motherboard is in the computer and see what the upgrade path can be from this one. If your budget is 150-200, I guarantee we can find you something. What size is your monitor?

There is this video card on Craigslist as well for $90:
http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/sys/2350313320.html

Here is a youtube video with that exact 4890 card with GTR2. You'd be able to game on a big screen with that video card at a high resolution.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QyQhwaJXv0U

$90 gets you this video card, a XFX 5770 1GB Card: (This card can run 3 monitors, I'd even offer him $70 or $80. This card would be sick!)
http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/sys/2339023342.html

So total in would be $210 to $230 (before price haggling). You could run GTR2, GT Legends, Race07 + Addons, GTR Evo, STCC 2, and a bunch of newer games. That video card even comes with Fallout 3 and all the addons!

I'll wait for the guys reply if that motherboard supports pci-express video cards which I'm sure it does. But as you can see, a lot of deals can be found for a great gaming computer that can run what you need it, and still be upgradable for the future.

Wow, thanks for all your help man! This is the exact information I needed. FWIW, I would be running on a 32" LCD tv (same one I run GT5 on). I guess I should state, the money I'd put into this will be my tax check money and I haven't received it yet so I probably wouldn't be able to answer any of the craigslist adds just yet, but I'm a craigslister so I'll be sure to check there once I get my refund check.

I knew there was a lot to PC racing, and I know these games have been evolved by the community since they were released by the developers so getting a good idea of what I need to run them has been difficult. I've always found the "easiness" of consoles to be quite comfortable and that's why I haven't branched out into PC-land yet. With all the nonsense that's going on right now I've kinda be nudged in that direction, but somewhat unwillingly. I just want to race people, not worry about add-ons and drivers and mods and whatever else goes along with PC sims.

Knowing that the motherboard/processor probably aren't "up to snuff" for these games is going to make me re-think the whole thing. I thought by already having the tower/motherboard/cpu I wouldn't have to make a big leap to get these PC games running, but it appears it might be a little more of a leap than I thought.

Thanks again for taking the time to help me with this. Much appreciated. 👍
