If you have the time, you could format, then reformat the drive several times and eventually that will kill off all the data. But, this could take from 7 wipes to 21 before everything is gone.

My advice, take a hammer to your drive and purchase a new HDD or sell the computer on without.

I use DiskWipe now. Makes it easy to wipe it according to DoD 5220-22.M while having the hard drive connected to another computer. Great program and you can bring it with you.

Dban is not bad but i find it a little slow.

But their are dozens of disk wiping programs.

I would say a DOD 3 Pass should do the trick, but if you want data gone you could try the NSA 7 Passes.

I don't think anyone here is paranoid enough to use gutmann at 35 passes.

There is another one which can pernamently delete stuff on the hard drive, but I can't recall this second. I'll post if I remember.

Was it called PDWipe? That's the one I used in the shop I used to work at.
