Laguna Seca Lap Times For 449 Cars (And Counting!)

On CH tires? Are you trying to kill me :scared:

Yes, I'll do it :sly:
Lol, that will be like driving on bald tires. I am liking your approach and yes PD does seem to cater to novice with tire grip. I find it annoying how it's so hard to utilize the triggers on the DS3 and PD's complete lack of changing sensitivity to your liking appalling. Each iteration of GT keeps getting easier to get into but you cannot tailor the game to match your skill once you get better. When using PD's quasi manual with the DS3 the game auto disengages the clutch and prevents power from being transmitted, PD still won't give controller users the ability to clutch for themselves. This is one thing I like with a wheel is being able to disengage the clutch and let the car coast or my favorite upsetting the car intentionally or engine brake in dire situations.

I'm doing a test of GT3 spec tunes for cars and I have really only found 16 cars that are usable of that only 12 are actually comparable in performance and all have the same parallel settings. I tested all cars running SH tires, full aero(underbody as well) and 1350kgs minimum weight. I can send you the full settings and setups I use for you to test if you like. I was preparing for the community update to run a series, I may need more input to keep the cars very close.

Finally after a month of being without GT6, I've began testing again!

I was so excited to get back on the track. I spent a good 20 minutes with the BMW M4 Coupe, reacquainting myself with the physics and the track. I thought I'd be a bit rusty, but after 2 laps I was nailing all the braking points and apexes. Must be muscle memory.

Got a 1:45.336 with the M4, which is over 5 seconds slower than Randy Pobst's time but 1.6 seconds better than the M3 '07. With CS tires his time would be easy to beat, and with CM it would be close.

Also ran a 1:49.247 in the Nissan Fairlady Z (Z34) '08.

And finally, a 1:42.178 in the Audi R8 4.2 '07

That does it for today! Tomorrow's lineup:

Audi R8 5.2
Ferrari F40
BMW M5

and maybe the McLaren F1 :scared:

Exactly one tenth of a second slower than the M4, and 1.5 seconds better than the M3 '07.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1:44.007 - 528 - Ferrari F40 '92

Tied with the Corvette Stingray to the thousandth of a second!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1:41.365 - 608 - McLaren F1 '94

Less than a tenth of a second behind the GT-R '07. The CH tires really hold this car back, and the F40 somewhat.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1:41.511 - 540 - Audi R8 5.2 FSI Quattro '09

Only 6 tenths of a second quicker than the 4.2 V8.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1:54.830 - 403 - Mini Cooper S '11

Less than a tenth of a second slower than the Mazda Roadster RS (NC) '07.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1:52.324 - 440 - Nissan Fairlady Z 300ZX TwinTurbo 2seater (Z32) '89

Less than 3 seconds slower than the Z33 Version S '07.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1:52.335 - 428 - Volkswagen Golf VI R '10

Only 1.5 seconds faster than the Golf V GTI '05.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1:46.603 - 464 - Subaru Impreza Sedan WRX STI '10

Wow, just .001 seconds slower than the '07!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1:42.595 - 549 - Ferrari 430 Scuderia '07

3 tenths quicker than the C6 Z06.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1:39.603 - 555 - KTM X-Bow R '12

The new king of the hill. Dethroned the GT-R Nismo by less than 3 tenths of a second.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm done testing today. Throw some car suggestions at me for the coming days.

I would think this is too hard to compare at this basic level. The M4 Randy drove is wearing Michelin Pilot Super Sports which are almost SH in stickiness. To be fair, his car is also weighing ~200 lbs more than the M4 weight in GT6. I set my M4 in GT6 to ballast at 1645Kg and with SH tires. Still have to run the lap, but I suspect I would match the real time and you would be able to still beat it by a couple seconds...

I said I was done for today, but then I tested 3 more cars. NOW I'm done. Maybe.

1:45.307 - 498 - Chevrolet Camaro SS '10
1:47.595 - 501 - Ford Mustang Boss 302 '13

^ I hate to say it, but the Camaro is a better Mustang than the Mustang

1:55.452 - 429 - Toyota Supra 3.0GT Turbo A '88

A full second slower than the Mazda RX-7 GT-X (FC) '90. Funny story, I had actually tested that RX-7 today, and as I went to record the time here, I noticed I tested it a while ago. Turns out I was less than a tenth slower this time around. That just goes to show my consistency, eh?

Yep, I lied. Here's 3 more, and I'm positively finished for today. I went on a spree because it's been so long

1:46.458 - 482 - Lotus Esprit V8 '02
1:48.880 - 490 - SRT Challenger SRT8 '08
1:49.288 - 498 - SRT Charger SRT8 '11

The Lotus is less than a second slower than the NSX Type R of the same year. Not bad!

My first post in this thread is starting to really flesh out nicely.

Tomorrow, I'd like to test the Audi TTS '09, Corvette Z06 '04, and Honda Fit RS '10.

You sir are a champion. I've been toying with the idea of compiling a list of cars at Deep Forest for some time but I can't decide on what tires to use and whether or not I want people to know how bad of a driver I am haha :P

Maybe, just maybe.

I thought I would give some of these combos a spin. Outside of league racing I think this is the most fun I've ever had in GT.. Are you doing the VGT's? If so I suggest the Mercedes...it was quite fun.

Maybe, just maybe.

I'd suggest you Comfort Mediums, as I'm doing Comfort Softs on Trial Mountain :P

I might do the VGT's depending on how I feel when I get through all the real cars.

@ironman44321 Don't be afraid of your lap times being beaten. The important thing is to be consistent from car to car.

I tried the FXX last night and it has a ton of grip, drives a lot like the McLaren F1, you shouldn't have any problem with it. It was fun to drive so I took it out to the Nurb and that was a fun couple of laps. The Enzo on the other hand:banghead::banghead: What a piece junk:mad:

I'll need to run a Red Bull championship just to buy the FXX for the test :irked:

I'll do that car tomorrow, definitely.

Added:

1:42.140 - 573 - Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 (C6) '09
1:45.096 - 521 - Aston Martin V12 Vantage '10

Those cars should be 1:41 and 1:44 respectively, but I lost my patience after a half dozen laps each.

The ZR1 is not even a full second faster than the Z06, but then again it's also 200 lbs heavier.

Added:

1:54.096 - 415 - Ford Focus ST '06
1:56.264 - 415 - Volvo C30 R-Design '09

The '06 Focus ST is barely 1 second slower than the '13...

The 2013 Focus is killed once you have to shift up to 5th gear : IRL, this car has two different final drive ratios, one for 1 to 4, and one for 5 & 6. PoDi couldn't include two different final gears, but they didn't thought about tweaking 5th and 6th ratios in game to compensate...

1:55.601 - 391 - Mini Cooper S '05

The Lambo is lighter than the Italia, and, although it's AWD, handles much like RWD.

The supercharged Cooper S '05 is less than a second slower than the turbo'd Cooper S '11

Guys, I'm up to 99 cars. I'm going to hit 100 tomorrow. I'm not sure which car should take the honors. Aston DB9? McLaren 12C? Ferrari FXX? Lamborghini Aventador? The possibilities are endless...

FXX. You'll love it...and probably have your lap time champ in the process:cheers:

1:39.422 - 629 - Ferrari FXX '07

Okay, well, it is the fastest car, BUT, it's not fun on CH tires. Like, at all. Getting under 1:40 with a DS3 is the most white-knuckle experience I've had so far. I might be able to manage a 1:38 but as it stands, I'd much rather drive a Prius around the track 5 times than do one more lap in the FXX.

The only way to avoid spinning is to drive at 1/3 throttle or to floor it in 4th gear. That is neither fun nor realistic.

The GT-R Nismo is barely slower, and where the FXX will keep the most narcoleptic person on Earth awake, the Nismo will put the most caffeinated person on Earth to sleep.

If I had tire wear on, I'm sure by the end of my first lap they would have been bald.

The tires spinning in 3rd is where all the fun is:lol:. With the G27 it was definitely fairly easy to control with some throttle feathering and some quick upshifting. The car has a ton of grip and is very stable while cornering too.

Yeah these high-powered 600 PP+ RWD cars are really only controllable with a wheel. I bet there's at least 5 seconds on the table that I won't be able to make up for.

If someone can manage 1:37 in this car with a DS3 with no aids on except ABS, they deserve a medal.

I only put about 5 or 6 laps in it and left something on the table for sure but I don't think there's 5 seconds there. Maybe 1.5-2. For the record, the Veyron was a couple of tenths faster than the FXX:crazy:

I just gave this a try by curiosity, made a 39.0 on my first "clean" lap. If I spent a bit of time on that combo, I could get it in 36 for sure, maybe high 35s, but I would need a wheel and pedals in better condition. The Lacombe brothers may get it in 34, I'll try to ask them what they think if I remember to.

1st gear is useless here, 2nd should be used only to help the car turn in at the slowest points and maintain a bit of RPM before getting out in 3rd, and you should still wait before getting 100% on the pedal.

Let me just say, Jaguar sucks. They are fast, but not fun to drive.

I did some comparative testing of grip between GT6 and Assetto Corsa (which is a PC sim which some feel verges on having too much grip).

CM is roughly the same feel as normal road tyres on the F458, McLaren MP4-12C or SLS.
CS is roughly the same feel as semi-slicks on the F458, McLaren 12C or SLS.
SS tyres were a good match for GT3 race car medium compound slicks on the Z4 GT3.

I think that anything up to around 450 or maybe even 500PP would be using CH tyres from the factory. Above 500PP I guess CM is valid. Cars which come from the factory with semi-slicks would be CS, and I guess most "hot laps" from car magazines are done on CS tyres.
SH tyres feel like hard compound cut slicks (kind of road legal but you wouldn't want to try driving through puddles), SM tyres would be hard compound racing slicks, SS would be medium compound racing slicks.
I guess RH could represent very grippy soft compound racing slicks. RM and RS feel like they have too much grip, even for "single lap special" sticky slicks....
