Museumsteve's multiscreen project

Not tried airplay but will definately look into it :)

I think my next job is to sort my TT a bit better.

I dont really want to buy new hardware just yet but I have a miniquake and 2 bodyshakers (like the aura bass shaker). I use an Onkyo 309 and currently feed the LFE to a Yamaha receiver to feed the miniquake.

As the Onkyo wont do multichannel out I guess I'll have to get another receiver that does so i can feed the centre and left/right to the yamaha to feed the shakers? Does that sound right?

I'll base my TT purely on audio to start with and assume it's being fed 5.1 or better.

Not sure what Yamaha you have again? You can likely use your AV amplifer for decoding and speaker audio then utilise its preouts for a secondary AV amplifer that has multichannel input for tactile amplification.

Alternatively you could likely get a HDMI/optical splitter that gives you dual outputs from your source PC/Console. PS3 is okay it offers HDMI & optical output at the same time. Then really use one for audio on the Yamaha and tactile amplification on the Onkyo.

With the 3 tactile you have go with stereo and use the LFE for the miniquake. Although it will need its own amplification. Alternatively try the miniquake on the pedals as "centre" but reduce its volume to match in with the others.

You should find this a good starting point.

After a couple of weeks break, I got back on to this tonight and started my next stage, which is to get the projectors off the floor tripods completely.
I bought a lighting truss and 3 universal projector mounts. I'm fortunate to have a really solid house with concrete ceilings so hanging the truss was not an issue as the ceiling can take the weight easily.

There's still more to do but I wanted to sort out the height etc before worrying about other stuff.

Hopefully my next job will be to tidy up the chains etc and look at options for cabling...I do have some ideas about that to fit in with my theme :)

Amazing rig museumsteve! your thread is interesting reading :)

Does the LFE output 5.1 signal? i.e. would the receiver powering the TT units differentiate not only between left and right, but forward and back as well?

I play on PS3 and am looking to invest in a TT setup. I have my Ps3 hooked to my receiver via HDMI. Am I able to connect a second receiver via LFE and get 5/7-direction signal sent to the TTs?

Thanks! :)

Why do I keep coming back to this thread? I'm jealous. My house has concrete ceilings too... I'm a third of the way there already so I might as well pop out for a truss and three projectors.

How come you didn't support the truss with other trusses on the floor? Truss. Strange word. And how much did it cost? I've been using Flexlink aluminium profile to build a cockpit, I probably would've used something like that if I were doing what you've done because it's light and fairly cheap (half a kilo and £6.20 per metre) but surprisingly strong. Probably not as strong as a truss, though. Truss.

Truss. My grandad had a truss. Minging old thing it was. Horrible.

He didn't have concrete ceilings though. I think his ceiling got bombed out during the Blitz...

^^^
Sorry, bored at work... lol

lol...not sure which bit you're talking about :D
The truss is just the gantry type frame for hanging the projectors. My framework for the racing seat/motion is aluminium profile (frex). The truss was £30 from ebay. Few chains to hang it and then just to sort out some cable management :)

I originally had the projectors on projector floor stands, which were great but when I added the motion stuff I needed to build a base (MDF) so that meant the projector stands would have to move and it threw out my throw distances etc so hanging them made sense. It also means I have more floor space ;)

This is Mr Latte's area really ;) have a look at some of his threads. Or he'll be able to answer in here.
The LFE is just a (mono) subwoofer track so is bass specific. GT5 has an awesome bass track and works really well with a TT. To get directional is a different ball game, you need to look at feeding an amp and using things like equalizers to cut out the higher frequencies...much more invloving but definately on my list to do later in my project :)

I was just thinking that you could've made something to do the truss' job out of profile, that's all. The thing is it probably would've cost about the same (depending on how long the truss is and how much the projectors weigh) so ignore me, I'm just thinking out loud I suppose.

I've just noticed, in your post before the one I quoted you said 'and look at options for cabling...I do have some ideas about that to fit in with my theme'... I'm intrigued!

Steve your rig is looking awesome. As mentioned earlier you should look at PC racers, in particular iRacing. You have an A+ rig now step up with great racing.

I only really play PC racers on it. I have an iracing account but dont really use it as to be honest it can be confusing for beginners and I don't want to commit to set race times as I work 7 days a week and a single parent. I'm more interested in career based games as I prefer offline racing and for some reason I always have.
At the moment I'm completely hooked on Dirt 2 more than anything. I dabble with rFactor from time to time as well as F1 2011 and Dirt 3.

Due to other commitments I've not managed to finish yet but back on it now and the finish line is in sight.

I've trunked the cables for the projectors on the ceiling to leave the floor space nice and clear

PS3's have now gone and I'm sticking with 3 Xboxes and PC for now. May add 4th Xbox again shortly

Got a nice industrial look going on, which I wanted :)

Moved the rear speakers to the gantry (still need to angle them down slightly)

Screen masking will be the last job..

Getting a nice clean look now projectors and cabling is off the floor space. The cabling on view is the emergency stop for the actuators. That will be housed soon..

Girlfriend is happy to play around on my Mame table, which was my last project, while I race :)

I was going to use an upright cab originally but ended up changing my plans. This one has touch screen for windows stuff and a motorised screen so I can lower it and turn table round and it becomes a digital pinball machine :)

Struggling to get decent quality, I had to turn the room lights up a bit to video it so the screens look a little washed out, but it is stunning...
This was a quick race on Dirt 2 rallycross tonight. I've got the motion dumbed down a little but it's really exciting to play :)

One more from different angle.
I ordered a dampening kit from Simxperience tonight so that will ship next week and once it arrives I'll be finished :)

Thanks for the uploads, Steve...

Dampening kit in red I presume to match the curtains?

Nice to see it coming together and you getting the enjoyment from it.
How you finding the Sim Commander software?

Yeah...Red kit :)

I'm using x-sim (force profiler/sender) and it's great, once setup and just works, never had a problem. Obviously I'm still in early days and there's so much more to writing more engaging profiles but I'll be able to concentrate more on that once I'm finished :) I am definately getting enjoyment from it...worth every penny 👍

Nice videos 👍

Great looking setup:)

Any plans for upgrading the CSR?

I was close to getting a CSRE but now holding out for a CSW I think :)

Okay great to hear things are going well for you.
Looking forward to getting projectors and eyefinity running myself.

Have you tried "airplay" and using your ipad2 as a PC monitor?
Uses wifi but may have small degree of lag, though potential uses.

I like the gadgets but think I too would end up using a proper rev gauge.

I finally got round to trying Air Display on my iPad today and love it so much I'm gonna pick up another ipad and use it just for Force Profiler and maybe double it as a dashboard.
I didn't realise Air Display let you control the PC it mirror'd so I will put my laptop out the way and run the ipad. I'll also give the gauges a go on Force Profiler as it would be preferable if I can do it all with one display :)
This is good news for me as I was just starting to look at buying a 7" or 10" touch monitor at approx £140 whereas a secondhand Ipad 1 can be had for around £160 ish :)

I finally picked up GTR Evolution and think I've fallen in love with it, just as I finished Dirt 2 100% so it will probably be my next game of choice.

I'm also going to start looking at using the 2 spare bass shakers I have...

Yeah I was using my iPad and air display recently too as a control screen for my sound card during some recent testing of some new tactile stuff.

I think it may have some issues with lag with anything highly motion based. Be great for you to test iHUD for Rfactor I can't at moment as not installing games yet but curious to see how it works as speedo and revs.

Ordered a 21" touchscreen last week full 1080p so will let you know how that works. I wanted a high res option but run it directly from the graphics card so no lag whatsoever with multitasking or additional apps. Already have a plan for it though.

AOC and Dell have models approx £200 went for the AOC myself as seen some good comments for it.

Cool, I put an AOC touchscreen in my recent mame table project..and it's an awesome screen ;)

I'll let you know how I get on. Dashboard isn't my priority, would just be a nice addition. I'll use the Ipad for Force Profiler regardless...and when my car breaks down in GTR Evolution I'll just play games on the Ipad while I'm waitng for the tow truck :D

Wow, that's pretty awsome, triple projection is definitly the direction I want to go in.

Great work and enjoy the cinematic experience!

My fun with Air Display may be short lived as it is indeed laggy and wont be any good for dashboard features IMO. It will be fine if I use it for controlling the Force Profiler on it's own.
I think I have an old touch screen monitor which I may dig out tonight and hook up and see how it fairs.

Also, after looking at your current button box feature I'm interested. I had a look around and there's some cool touchscreen options for button boxes as well..it really is never ending :D

That was my concerns...
I wonder via alternative modding can the iPad be used as USB screen?

I think your a bit like me in that you want a great sim cockpit or indeed an extensive multitasking entertainment setup based around a cockpit. Although you are necessarily NOT perhaps a true hardcore sim fan. Perhaps like me, you have little interest/limited time to get fully involved with such a game like i-racing regardless of how much some people continuously keep mentioning it. Business, family come first and not everyone can devote time to weekly events etc.

I'm just a hobbyist in the proper sense :D
For example, I'm at work right now and infront of me is a bread bin, a chopping board and my drill and dremel ;) and it will be part of my rig by the weekend :D

I've been frustrated to learn that Simxperience may not have shipped my dampener kit yet 👎 I was hoping to install that tomorrow night.

As for ipad..not sure what I'm gonna do yet. I'm not overly fussed about a dash so I may stick with laptop for now or look into things like touchbuddy perhaps.

I did try iRacing but I think it's too time consuming for me. I have a business that keeps me working 7 days a week and I'm a single parent so when I get home I want to fire the PC up and race..career stuff or arcade mainly. GTR Evoluton is my current racer of choice and with the GT Legends pack I'm racing MKI Capri's and Escorts and lovin' it ;)
