Major Event Sponsor Announced for The Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. – When drivers and riders take the green flag for 93rd Running of The Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb on June 28, 2015 they will be doing so with a new and exciting Platinum Sponsor of the event in Gran Turismo.

The long-term partnership will see the event officially retitled as The Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb Brought to you by Gran Turismo. Gran Turismo has become the first Platinum Sponsor in the Race to the Clouds’ history as it nears its 100th Anniversary in 2016.

“The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is an event I’ve followed since my childhood,” stated Kazunori Yamauchi, creator of the Gran Turismo franchise. “We’re thrilled to become a part of one of the most historic and prestigious motorsports events in the world. Pikes Peak is such a unique race, there’s truly nothing that it can be compared to.”

The Gran Turismo series, created by Polyphony Digital Inc., is one of the most successful video game franchises of all time and has sold over 72 million units worldwide since being introduced to the market in 1997. Over 300,000 unique users connect with the series daily and have participated in logging more than 3 billion online races totaling over 45 billion online miles.

“We are beyond excited to have developed a relationship with Gran Turismo and couldn’t have asked for a better organization to become partners with,” Tom Osborne, Chairman of the Board of The Broadmoor PPIHC, explained. “Yamauchi-san is such an incredibly talented and well respected individual: to have him put the name of the brand he has built from the ground up on our race is a true honor.”

About the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb
Founded by Spencer Penrose in 1916, the PPIHC is the second oldest motor race in the Western Hemisphere and is one of the few races in the world that encompasses nearly all forms of motorsports in a one day event. Every year vehicles ranging from motorcycles, ATVs, sidecars, Big Rigs and 1,500hp purpose built Pikes Peak racers take on America’s Mountain on the last Sunday of June. In addition to the celebration of the events 100th Anniversary in 2016, the PPIHC will hold its 100th Running tentatively on June 26, 2022. The PPIHC was not held in 1917-‘18, and from 1942-‘45 because of the first and second World Wars.

Tickets for The Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb will be available online at www.ppihc.com on January 1, 2015.

If Pikes Peak comes then there is hope for rally cars in GT6, cuz now they are absolute useles, only collecting dust, in GT6 there are 3 races total of rallying. I would have more rally cars if there were tracks like Tahiti Maze, Smokey Mountain.. but meh aint gonna happen

It might happen on GT7. We just have to wait and see.

But I would like to have more rally cars and tracks! And better rally modes, too! I want Pikes Peak to be playable online and offline!

Pikes Peak is not for rally cars.

The cynic in me says that PD always planned and worked on PP for GT6 but then canned it and kept it for GT7. There are really quite a few specialised cars for it in GT6, but no use for them, well not in the correct context anyway. I hope this isn't the case and it makes it to both games but we'll see. Love that track in the original Dirt.

My theory is that it was originally planned to be in GT5, I would even go on to say that it was finished back when Red Bull leaked that article, but I think that they found out that the PS3 just couldn't handle it. I am almost certain it will be in GT7.

Actually yeah I thought that article was about GT6 but it was way back before GT5? Or are we thinking of different ones? I remember an interview with a driver who mentioned it but didn't think it was that long ago.

It was about a driver using GT to practice in a track that it's not in GT6, I don't remember if it was Pike Peak or not

I am glad the partnership has been announced. It is great to see Gran Turismo be represented with different types of motorsport events in the world. If this is a confirmation of the course being included in the future, I would hope PD could add the current and traditional version of the track (with dirt).

I agree with @fortbo that Polyphony might have Pikes Peak all ready to be put into the game but having the problems of the PS3's limitation for it. Seeing GT6 had a small rash of new cars that competed in the event added in plus the Escudo being made into a high quality standard.

Plus PD gave us this little extra also...

Here's hoping whatever iteration of the game it appears in, that there are "historic" layouts with lots of dirt as well as the current configuration (is it 100% asphalt now?)

In the Englandland they had a TV show (last sunday) about Guy Martin (Truck Mechanic - TT Roadracer) who built his own motorbike (Nice welds!) to try and become the first ever British winner of the Pikes Peak in any category - "Speed with Guy Martin" hour long show on Channel 4
(Should be on 4oD re-watch if you live in Englandia or Scotopolis or the Principality of Wales).

Interesting show.

Makes me wonder if PD stopped working on the track layout due to the paving of the course? Who knows. It'd be really nice to see in GT6 or 7 though. I really like rally cars and driving them, so it'll be nice to have another track to play around with them in :) Assuming they made an old dirt version of the track too...

Nice plug, will look that up. Puts me in mind of similar things relating to the Isle of Man TT, and also DIY bike speed records, at Bonneville.

Seen it :P Definitely worth a watch especially after today's news.

However, while I think it >>50% it's not actually confirmed as a track yet so I will keep that pikes peak cog hype train in check for now.

My thoughts are that the track was in production when that interview was leaked but not finished. For those that say it's not possible in gt6 see Sierra...? But I wonder if it was held up due to issues they had with ps3 but they can now complete it using the same techniques they used for Sierra. it's all just guesswork though. So let's wait and see what happens.

I'm sure their reason for putting it in the game is that it's used in the VLN, and specifically driven by a GT Academy graduate. I doubt it has anything to do with Pikes Peak.

I agree on both points, it's just the livery that PD used on Lexus is the same as the cars that ran on Pikes Peak.

Edit: Same livery also on the VLN cars sans the stickers and door numbers.
