HAI GUYES SPOTIFY IS RELEASED
Eric Lempel
Hello everyone! I’m thrilled today to introduce a new music destination called PlayStation Music, with Spotify as the exclusive partner. We’ve partnered with our friends at Spotify to bring its award-winning digital music service to PlayStation Network this spring in 41 markets around the world.

We know how important music is to our community of gamers, and this partnership combines the best in music with the best in gaming. PlayStation Network users will enjoy the convenience of linking your accounts to Spotify, making it easy to sign-up with your existing ID and subscribe to Spotify’s Premium service. You can also use Spotify while playing games on PS4, enabling you to soundtrack your gaming sessions with your favorite songs in the background. Want something heavy and rocking for an intense Destiny Raid? How about some old school hip hop while taking the field in Madden NFL? With more than 30 million songs and 1.5 billion playlists, Spotify on PlayStation Music has it covered. As we get closer to launch we look forward to telling you about some of the other great features that will be available exclusively through Spotify on PlayStation Music.

The new service will launch initially on PS4 and PS3, as well as Xperia smartphones and tablets. You’ll of course be able to listen to your favorite playlists – including existing playlists from current Spotify users as well as Spotify curated playlists – and enjoy the service on all of Spotify’s supported devices.

Prior to the launch of Spotify on PlayStation Music, the Music Unlimited service will close in all 19 countries on March 29, 2015. Nearly all of these countries will be among the 41 markets where PlayStation Music featuring Spotify will be available at launch, including the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Brazil. From February 28, 2015, Music Unlimited users with active subscriptions will receive up to 30 days of free access through March 29, 2015.

Stay tuned to PlayStation.Blog for more details on PlayStation Music featuring Spotify, and in the meantime you can sign up for updates here.

TL : DR
  • PlayStation Music is Spotify with another name. Replacing Music Unlimited.
  • Releasing initially in: Andorra, Austria, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, Monaco, New Zealand, Netherlands, Norway, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey, UK and USA.
  • Can listen to songs while playing video games.
  • Initially on PS4 and PS3, then Xperia Tablets and Phones. No news on Vita or non-Xperia Androids (although Spotify is essentially the same thing).
  • Released NOW.
Looks awesome. Pity it probably won't launch on the Vita.

This is awesome, simply awesome. I hope it isn't going to be nullified too much when it reaches the PS3 but we'll see! I wonder if they'll actually allow people without a paid subscription to Spotify to use it. And if they do, I wonder how much ads they'll try and squeeze into a minute...

It's a bit of a pity Spotify's Japanese music selection is a bit piss-poor, but I'm hoping you'll be able to sync music to it, much like what you can do now with the desktop and mobile applications.

How much?
Since I would assume the Spotify sub. which is about 9.99$
Would be nice if it would be like the desktop version where as long as your connected to the internet you can listen with ads.

If you already have Spotify Premium, you needn't pay anything more. If you don't have Premium, you can still play music with ads. 👍

I would hope that says like that.
Just hope they don't change it to where you would have to have premium to play it like Music Unlimited.

Yeah, from what I've read and heard, it will essentially be the same offerings of how its currently set up.. with and without a subscription. It's win/win really.

Then I just saw this on cnet
The new service PlayStation Music will allow you to use and manage your Spotify tracks and playlists on your console. You'll be able to link your Spotify and PlayStation Network accounts, allowing you to pay for Spotify through your PSN wallet

So I guess it still has one of those stupid Pay to listen deals. Until I see something else.

Currently, you can stream your playlists in Shuffle mode and use the radio function for specific artists or genre's of music you choose - all at no charge. I don't see them changing this. If they do, then I will stand corrected of course :D

Actually, you have the option of listening free with ads like regular radio. It was mentioned in the US Blog comments.

It means you can choose to pay for Spotify using your SEN wallet instead of through Spotify Vouchers, or charging you automatically.

Saw this and it is awesome. Put the NFSMW chase music on (Just search Need for speed and go to NFSMW Soundtrack) while in a 4 star wanted level on GTAV and it felt awesome!

Background play/games are PS4 exclusive and maybe the xperia, but have to be open for spotify to work on ps3 and has to remain open. Which kinda sucks. I would of liked a few of the playlists for GTA.
