The Renault 5 was a car of many strenghts, it could be cheap and economical as the Campus, it could be very fast in GT Turbo form and it could be plush and luxurious as the Baccara.

Introduced in 1987, the Baccara was equipped with the GTXs carbureted 1.7L OHC engine making all of 87hp. The key difference between it and its naturally aspirated brethren was the was the impresssive list of standard equipment for a 1980s Supermini. External differences included painted bumpers, 13 inch alloy wheels, standard fog lights, and three distinctive color options, finished with bronze pin striping. The Interior came with additional sound deadening, thick carpets, leather upholstery, electric windows,color glass, a split folding back seat and a leather bag below the parcel shelf. The package was completed by power steering, a 5-speed manual gearbox and GT Turbo brakes. About 4000 R5 Baccaras were made between 1987 and 1989.
