Forza Horizon is kinda a spiritual successor to TDU. I hope we see a TDU3, maybe with a different developer at the helm. I hope its Ubisoft Reflections (Driver), Playground Games (Forza Horizon), United Front (Sleeping Dogs) or Criterion Games (Need For Speed/Burnout)

I'd say Slightly Mad Studios, as they made TD: Ferrari Legends, and they're currently making Project C.A.R.S. And by the look of things with that, having "perhaps the most realistic graphics seen in any racing simulator, ever", imagine an open world driving simulator made just like that...with IRL affordable cars and IRL customisation...I'd wait a couple years for that...

well, in my opinion Melbourne House did a better job than Eden on the first TDU. Eden created the race events just quickly while Melbourne House had spent more time in creating a higher variety and challenging race events. Even the PS2 had a low resolution and therefore doesn't stand a chance when it comes to HD-graphics, but the gameplay from the PS2 version was overall better than the PC/Xbox 360 version of TDU.

And about TDU 2: I was very disappointed about the physics & gameplay. The physics from TDU 1 were just fine for an arcade game, so why did Eden change it and make it even worse? Eden may be good in delivering good graphics, but their weakness was definitely the gameplay which was just poor... and too much lifestyle...

If there would ever be a TDU 3, then i recommend to give the job to Melbourne House with the Havoc physics from TDU 1.

This game has such potential for a great game. I would like Atari sell the game to someone who has the money and time to creat tdu3 just incase Atari run out of either of those things. In my opinion it would be cool if they sold it to play station because of their new open world experience and have the new tdu3 as a new but fee game mode for the new ps4. But I also think if they created the game with grandtrismo because the could but a open world game with all the cars and have races like normall gt but then you could have the TDU aspect and have that open world experience to drive and you could buy your cars and tune to the track and the road. That would take over the Foza sales and be one of the best driving games out there.

I think all of the fans of TDU have to demand that Atari to either sell or makes TDU3 and tells us in the rest of 2013 what they will do. We have to spread this around or atari will never say anything about TDU3. This message needs to be told to Atari because nothing will never happen.
:scared:

The main problem is no customizations. I am surprised that this rarely gets talked about among people that are into racing games or cars, and even in GTPlanet. Maybe because they are used to the GT series giving them so little?

When it comes to mods more and more are doing it in the real world and less and less are doing it in videogames. What gives? Like in MCLA (like I always mention), physics aren't great, car list is tiny, and the map size is just okay. Now why is the game so successful? It is consumer friendly in all areas. TD and Horizon are like you can't do this or you can't do that. What gives? Are most people that sheep? Are people that bland? Are you guys even car people at all? You are totally fine with driving around in plain stock cars that is restricted to any modifications? It seems to be the case since nobody ever complains and game developers don't do anything in this area. Then the vicious cycle continues.

Try it out sometime guys. Customizing is super fun and cool! Maybe if you guys start to realize how awesome it is then maybe these developers will start adding it to games instead of taking it away. This is what TD absolutely needs just like in all racing games. This is my minor rant because I am personally disgusted in the racing genre and the people behind it. They seem to lack any passion or just simply out-of-date.

This seems worthy of a mention...

So, if you didn't know, Codemasters (DiRT/GRID/F1) held a super-top secret (hardly) tryout for a new game they're making. Their Twitter feed has been dropping hints.

Test Driver Scott
Out of the corners it needs a tiny bit less oversteer

Test Driver Luke
It's less drifty than I was expecting... which is good, I really liked it

Test Driver Alex
It reminds me of GRID 1 where if you go in the gravel like that... It... Oh man that's cool

Test Driver Paul
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Then we get to this...

Test Driver Harry
There's a bit of a dark spot near the yacht club

Yacht club? What sort of racing game has a yacht club...?

And then we get on to what they're calling their guests.

Codies
Can't believe you guys haven't guessed what our Test Drivers are playing yet.

It's a bit obvious isn't it?

It's possible, I suppose. *crosses fingers*

Interesting, thanks for sharing TSF, I do have faith in Codemasters, really enjoyed their F1 game. Looking at the tweets I'm very skeptical hmm.

Well if this all turns out be DiRT 4 then you can publicly shame me or something. :dopey:

But it would make sense for Codies to drop their trademark franchises and focus on something else. Grid 2 was released unfinished with wonky physics and nasty DLC implementation. DiRT was better but now the USP (Ken Block and his [HOONIGAN] troupe) has jumped ship to EA and Need for Speed... we'll see.

I don´t mind if it is Dirt 4, as long as it gets some similarities to Dirt 1, i´m fine, even though i prefer a TDU 3.

After TDU2, I can't say I am interested. The truth is, because of it, I doubt I'd be even considering a TDU3.

It's been known for awhile now that Eden Games is recruiting for a racing/driving game, Nadal reopened his old studio back in January (I think?). The big question still is if they are working on TDU3 or an entirely new IP. If they did indeed buy the rights from Atari for the TDU name then it was either done quietly or is still in the negotiation phase.

I think it's gonna be a mobile game, given that they're offering a Cloud Programmer who can work on the Google App Engine Cloud.

It very well could be a mobile game, it's anyone's guess right now.

Found this on Eurogamerfr (dated Monday July 7th:)

Translated:

These are our colleagues Gamekult that relay this information very pleasant. The company Eden Games, specializing in automotive games (V-Rally, Test Drive Unlimited ...), was liquidated in January 2013 before being reborn from its ashes. Still owned by David Nadal, the firm has just released an aid to intellectual creation of 200,000 euros. The project will benefit is called GT Spirit and job offers are available on the site AFJV the Eden site.

I guess the project is called GT Spirit (for now)

Just seen a video of The Crew where the person was finding wrecked cars ala TDU2, I think you have to find 20 wrecks to unlock the hidden car, pretty cool shout out to TDU I thought.

TDU2 with TDU1 hardcore mode physics would be great.
I agree. Everything about TDU2 is so excellent but the physics are so strange. The physics were wonderful in TDU1, really not sure what they did to botch the physics in TDU2. Oh well TDU2 is still an enjoyable "cruising" game and for playing the Casino. I wont ever finish the campaign. I just end up getting too frustrated. So now all my time is either cruising around or Casino. Great chill game for sure. I still enjoy checking out friends mansions and yachts. So much amazing stuff in TDU2. I still need to find all the wrecked cars and unlock all the roads too.

Atari need to fix TDU2 before they make TDU3 if that is going to happen the big problem with TDU2 is not enough cars and the driving is unrealistic and to easy with Full assistance on and when you put it on sport the car just drives into trees. Driving off road is to easy and you can do it with any car. another problem is when you drive up to other players the game starts to freeze.

Same guys that made tdu 1 n 2 they worked on crew wich turned out really bad tdu 1 was the best in series i hope tdu 3 turns out closer to a sim

I cannot believe how TDU2 was after the brilliance of the first one, it was seriously horrible and hard to believe it came from the same studio.

The first one was excellent and they should just remake it doing all of Hawaii totally realistic and this time add more traffic and pedestrians like they had in MCLA.

I think Atari and Eden don't have the resources to make TD great any more, the franchise could probably do better in the hands of another company.
