When was the last time you played GT6?

A couple of days ago. A few laps with an SLS GT3 at Red Bull Ring. After 30 minutes, I was reminded of the lost potential of the game and shut it down depressed.

Yesterday, just a short session to complete the seasonal drift trials. Never knew the Mazda Carol had such potential as a drift car :D

I only put it in when there are new seasonal events. Other than that, it rests on the shelf. I will only make my come-back as a daily player when one of (or all of) folowing things are (finallly) added to to game:

- Shuffle racing
- Offline event creator
- Course maker

The day before yesterday - testing cars for a new series that I'm planning:

Sadly the one above uses all substitute cars because so many iconic cars are missing from the game - how can you have Jim Clark's Ford Lotus Cortina missing from a game?

If it wasn't for online I wouldn't play the game at all - those who haven't tried it don't know what you're missing - get a good group of friends and race / cruise / drift cars that you like.

Maybe you're aware of the following but this is just in case you aren't. As you are such a fan of those cars I recommend The Power and Glory mod which sits over the old Simbin game GTR2. It had the blessing of Simbin who even assisted with some of it. It has low PC requirements. Runs well on my 5 year old laptop and is free (you need GTR2 though which can be bought for a pittance on steam.

These are the cars. If you've not experienced it you might like to.

PS I have played GT6 a little more this last week as the club (C.R.A.P.) that I am part of have been doing the Bathurst ff 500pp seasonal exclusively in the Volvo C30. I also enjoyed the XBow at Willow Springs. That car is a joy to drive. However the more I play things with good sound and ai like that mentioned above, the less I play GT6 online or offline.

I also tested out my new T300 with add on pedals and h pattern shifter on quite a few cars. It's another few of levels up from my DFGT. Unfortunately the clutch implementation in GT6 makes it not worth setting up the shifter when playing GT6. It's not lack of memory, just bad design. Again, it's much better on PC even on 10 year old games. I'll stick with using the excellent paddle shifters in GT6.

Thanks very much John. What a mouth watering list of cars! - I will investigate further - I'm not very good with IT, but I know a friend who is!

Thanks for the tip. I never really knew about GTR2 because in those days I was on a hiatus from racing games and deeply involved with the MMO Guild Wars. I might have to give it a try to keep me going through the winter. 👍

I've gone from playing it ~5 hours a day to one a week for the fgta f1 series. Game has been out for a year. Camber is still screwed up. Ridiculous things work in setups, like dropping the rear and pointing the nose to the sky. Hacking is becoming an issue (surprised it has taken this long). The brake system and balance makes no sense in the game. The tuning across the board makes no sense. Toe is too sensitive and the alignments in some of the seasonal tunes are laughable. They would never yield the characteristics that they do in the game. There are so many things that are screwed up or don't make sense. I ignored these things and then idk what happened, but I just got fed up with gt6 all at once last week.

GT6 is finally just a calculator that doesnt know how to compute properly at this point to my eyes. "No, TI-83. Multiplying something by two is not the same as squaring it!"

People had told me iracing is expensive, but I was looking at it last night and it's not bad at all. 6 bucks a month right now to start with a decent little package of cars and tracks. Or 49 for the year. That's pretty good, given what it is and the fan base. I wouldnt be buying everything at once and each car is only 12USD with serious modelling going on from physics to sound to graphics and beyond. I'm just fed up with gt6 and dk what else to go to for a sim with decent online numbers.

I can't really say it better than the calculator example. And it is so broken to the point that clearly they don't know how to fix it. There are so many calculations happening at the same time and so many are manipulated or skewed to make x happen when you do this. But in a physics based game...when one calculation is wrong, everything ends up wrong because it is all coincides. Which is why I don't think k they know where to begin with things like camber.

I considered it a simcade and I can't even do that anymore. I am just baffled that it has been about a year and things are still so screwed up. I expect it to be wrong in ways when it is released. But after a year? Forget it lol that is sad.

GT is in serious trouble as a franchise. Idk if PD has a parent company or if they make other games, but I don't understand how they can sell gt6 as cheap as they are with such few sales and plan on developing GT7 into something much better. I really don't. These sorts of games cost a lot of money to make. GT6 is a prime example of throwing a lot of money at something (to the point where it is partially an advertising tool for other companies), doesn't inherently make it good.

The best addition to GT6 in terms of quality is the Red Bull Ring in my opinion. It looks great, there are no rendering or frame rate issues, no loading issues, no glitches, the textures look wonderful and so on. It's probably one of the few flawless things in the game. And red bull paid for it. That's why.

@JohnScoonsBeard

A quick followup for anyone in the know: does the DFGT work with GTR2? I assume it would but why not make sure...

Yes. If you buy it from Steam there is a file that can be downloaded (details at nogripracing) that unlocks the Porsches and Ferraris from the base game. If you get a physical disk the Ferraris and Porsches aren't greyed out. You can also get another file which allows the game to use more than 2gb memory if you have more available.

Once installed copy the entire installation to another folder. Then you'll need to download the Power and Glory mod and install it in the same location you've put the duplicate version of GTR2.

Good luck.

Earlier tonight, but only for a brief moment, just did some testing at Nurb' with the Supra. Planning to play some tomorrow if I can find time & motivation.

I think I played a few days after the last update, then that was it. No drive to play anymore. I might check out the Chevy/Chapparal VGT when it comes out; probably the only thing that could bring me back on a regular basis would be domestic car or classic muscle DLC. I'm not a huge fan of JDM and Euro supercars are nice but not enough fun to keep me involved. I did enjoy driving the Aston VGT, though.

Just completed a couple of Daytona seasonals to buy a couple of Lambo's including a chromeline. Finally got gold on the Silverstone one with the Toyota hybrid.

Last night, actually. Checked if there were any patches to get ready for a possible Spec 2.0. Hopefully it will manage to win me back. But I didn't actually play. Just roamed the menus for a minute or two. Then went back to playing FM4 and an obligated long Skyrim session.

I thought mine was broken too... Then i realized you had to power reset so it auto detects the video when changing from rca to hdmi.
I went a couple months with no gt6 and i felt like an idiot haha

Every time I drive a car in GT6 it puts a huge smile on my face, I find myself saying out loud "this is so cool" etc. However, after trying Project CARS out for the first time ever on Saturday I was in the mood for some sim racing, so I put on GT6 later that day. This time I felt nothing, all the joy for it had gone for me. P CARS outclasses GT on so many fronts that I simply cannot play it anymore. It's like I've been drinking budget instant coffee for years, & then just tried some fresh premium coffee - there's no going back!

:D

Project Cars is nice, still not finished yet and much of the game is glitchy. Its next GEN unfinished & release date a year and a half after GT6. I wouldn't be surprised if PD gives us the Gran Turismo Next Gen game inside 6 months to a year of Project Cars release.

Im still loving GT6 keeping my PS3 alive. Played last night & got the day off and plan to do some laps at Fuji in my factory finish 67 Toyota 2000GT shortly.

I'm not sure where this optimism for GT7 comes from, but more power to you. GT6 has failed on so many levels that I have been forced to do a complete 180 from where I was a year ago: full of hope and ready to see all the lessons learned from GT5.

Instead we got the same old sterile racing environment with arguably even worse AI and recycled career mode. Racing options were actually subtracted from GT5 rather than expanded upon. Online and the game in general is buggy and PD has been slow to respond if at all.

I don't buy the next gen argument because that really only relates to graphics. Other games have and have had more racing elements. Even earlier GT games had some. The only way there can be a "hardware limitation" is if you overdo the graphics and simulation to the point there are no resources left for AI, etc. That is a design choice on PD's part, not a hardware issue - especially so with this being their second attempt at the PS3.

I think, more than anything else, there is a philosophical issue where Kaz places his vision above all else - input, reason, and otherwise. Driving simulation comes before everything else and at the cost of much. Hardware generation will not change that.

Oh, and back on topic, last night I got within 2 seconds of golding the Circuito de la Sierra seasonal.
