GT5 Online Service Maintenance Coming October 22

Polyphony Digital has announced that Gran Turismo 5’s online services will be unavailable for a brief period of online maintenance next week, starting at 03:00 GMT/UTC (convert this to your local time) on Tuesday, October 22, 2013, and lasting approximately two hours.

Although game software updates are typically released during such maintenance periods in the past, this is not guaranteed.

Even if a game update is launched, however, it is unlikely to include any significant new features, functionality, or content, considering Gran Turismo 6 is now just over a month away.

Froza Motorsport online is pure garbage, 3 and 4 that is one over hyped trash of a game as for the online. The game all around is more like arcade then sim.

  3. E46fanatic937

  4. MichoRexo

Just updated mine and now I can’t send cars? Just found and tuned a Carlton on my main acc and was about to send it off to the new acc I still use for drifting when I’m bored but the “Give to Friend” option is grayed out…

  5. munsonface

Thank you PD! As I can’t wait for GT6, at least I can have a chance at time trials again. Were rendered useless because of hacks.

  6. gthater

THIS IS WHY THIS GAME IS LOSING TO FORZA BECAUSE OF THESE STUPID UPDATES IF YOU DONT LIKE MODDERS THEN MAKE EVERYTHING WE ARE DOING AVAILABLE SLAM WINGLESS ENGINE SWAPS CHASSIS SWAPS MAKE IT ALL IN GAME ITEMS AND THEY WONT HAVE NEED TO HACK DAMN IM GOING TO FORZA F THIS

    1. Pit Crew

Except with Forza, there are limitations on the Modifactions, and doesn’t violate TOS. where as the ones done on GT5 violate TOS and are all over the place, basically allowing anything to be modded. Hacked cars on GT5 can range from the Realistic to far Extreme.

Was it really necessary to capitalise that whole OP? Just angry ramblings with no clear logic.

  7. Progress823

As expected, 2.15 has removed the hacked/modded cars again. A pointless update to some and to others glee and bliss. I really don’t give a f—, bring on GT6 PD and stop wasting resources and time on GT5; as they could be working to make GT6 safer from hacking? Anyone else agree?

    1. KiroKai

Yeah. It’s not just their resources, it’s slapping the remaining players in the face once again. Why do they f–king care if I prefer my car to be wingless or gave it another sound because they couldn’t get the sound of the actual engine right?

GT5 gets boring after a few minutes playing offline, so I probably won’t play GT until GT6 is released or a new workaround comes around.

    2. infamousphil

Let’s see if PD will continue the hidden modifier game with 6. My guess is that they will. Those guys are as hard headed as they come. Still… I am still excited about the new release. Cain’t wait to see whats new.

    1. Swagger897

i suppose your talking about the mirrors no?..

a lot of games suck/dont really care/or try to attempt representing a good depiction of rear view mirrors, and side mirrors as well. I think in GT6 they will address it, or not. IT might be something next gen has because the ram to do these processes are extremely on edge

    2. infamousphil

I expect the “mirror errorr” effect to continue with 6. A detail, along with all lights being used on the car and different wheel and tyre sizes, that should be addressed in 7 because it is in conjunction with the next gen console. Just a thought.

    3. freaky40

yes I am talking bout the mirrors, I would like to see smoke from the tyres when I put the foot down on the gas and also doing donuts and not have too toggle on the rearview button and the dust being sprayed at the car behind me, normally the 2nd car haha

  8. infamousphil

Pointless updates? For COL! Before GT was played online, there was no need to re-release a game, except to restock the store shelves with “classic” editions for those late comers and folks who failed to care for a disc properly. The games were COMPLETE prior to being released to the general public.

I try, in earnest, to explain the importance of the this fact to my nephew in internet communications. His adamant reasoning for a company’s need to update for infrastructural reasons blinds him to the fact that PD uses these updates to finish finishing the game.

During GT5’s life on the internet I’ve seen interior views added, headlights turned on, standard cars reissued as premium cars, … glitches are a whole nother issue which I better understand as a technically complex monster.

I just don’t dig having to go online to get stuff that should have been included upon it’s initial release.

    1. Pit Crew

Interesting. I have BF3 and if you use the Recon class you get this nifty lil bot looking surveillance device called a MAV.

Well somewhere during the games early life players realised you could use the MAV to elevate your player to spots on the gaming map to create better more lethal sniper positions, though the MAVs original job was to illuminate enemy positions, for your team of players.

The MAV could also be used as a sort of killer Ram allowing you to take out players indiscriminately all over the map with one bot, and guess what EA did? Updated the game so that 1 if you Mav killed someone you lose the bot and 2 eliminated the ability to use the Mav to elevate the player to sniper positions not originally scripted in the online gameplay.

Just about every game on the market has updates, heck PSN gets updates, PS Home gets updates. This is not uncommon in this age of video games so GT5 getting one last update, more then likely to fix the hacks so that those of us who enjoy the seasonal TTs and play them straight up can have an actual measurement of where we stand on the leaderboard, is not a bad thing or out of the ordinary.

    2. Swagger897

to a degree a agree with both of you. Why:

When i first played NFSU2, there was the race at the airport on the runway where you could get out of the map, do a circle around the finish line (just like the old nurb underground glitch) and win in more the half the amount of time than it would normally. Now, i thought it was cool to get out of the map, but there were limitations i found. You couldnt go too far from the track, otherwise it would reset you; running back into map would cause you to be reset, or there were certain spots where it wouldnt.
Point is, this was an unknown flaw that shouldve been fixed before the game was released. However, there were not enough people to test to find issues like this. So by that, EA couldnt release a patch, or a new disc, just for this issue because of our limitations of technology.

Now 6-7 years later, technology has improved vastly to what it was back when NFSU2 was released. It is like this in every market. Phones have updates. Microsoft and apple have updates. Your wireless router has updates through cisco. Heck, now cars have updates.

Anything that uses java nowadays (almost everything) has updates.

As time goes on, newer and cooler things come out that the public want. So in order to retain a company’s market, they will improve their product until a new overhaul of the product is released. That applies to anything my friends. Okay, maybe you cant update a pair of socks.

But the point is, everything is unfinished. It’s the degree as to how unfinished it is. If something is complete, yet you hold it back and release it as DLC only to get more profit from customers, then shame on you. And that is what i think you are talking about Phil. Microcharges for games which were complete for release, yet held back for DLC.

    3. Pit Crew

My point is that the OP assumes we are getting an update that adds more content to GT5, but the last 3 maintenance cycles were to attempt to eliminate hack cars. It’s way to late in GT5s lifespan to upgrade the game data that would add anything new or worthwhile to GT5.

Sure updates will be apart of GT6s longevity and completion but people once again are taking the mention of a maintenance cycle, for GT5, way beyond the scope of what it’s really for…

    4. infamousphil

I really don’t see PD’s “updates” as a money making scheme… I could be wrong, of course. But it feels more like Sony’s push to get the product out. It’s well known how small PD is versus how much work goes into the series. Unlike Turn10’s shameless 20 dollar “Porsche Pack.” I’d like to see PD release a complete “basic” GT7 for the PS4, then update it with cars, parts, and tracks as they’re developed throughout it’s life on the console. This way they wouldn’t have to be concerned with new unexpected glitching. Hacking, I find, though still disagree with it’s use, was PD’s fault for releasing the game before removing coding for parts and performance values they had decided not to be used. Or is it their way of rewarding the deviant.

Simple, imo, release a complete GT with an extensive career mode for all types of vehicles (drives, aspiration, purpose…) and let the online communities’ imagination run wild. That would be a blast for years on end.

    5. infamousphil

Lol, PitCrew. It took me a halve hour to thumb my messege… ;)

I got your second point… but alas, gotta hit the road to Cali.

    1. sangdude82

I’ve played little bit of GT5 last week because I have to wait until December 6th for GT6. The maintenance would be a really simple one anyways.

    1. TokoTurismo

Who cares? Comments like theses are so dumb… GT5 maybe was flawed, yes, but the updates made it better. 100,000 players still cares about GT5 unlike some here who oddly hopes for it to die. Mind your own business?

    2. Pit Crew

People played GT5 prologue up to the time their servers shutdown (September 2011) and many are still playing GT1-4 so …yes.

This is the type of question one should expect from a kid TokoTurismo.

    3. nissankidd85

@tokoturismo..mind my own business? you must be 10yrs old..lol are you mad because they patched the hacks so you cant have X1 thats faster then everyone?…comments are peoples opinions..so then your comment is dumb…yes GT5 is flawed…and 100,00 players still care not cares..proper english when your “trying” to “insult” me please…and my comment was aimed at the fact that GT6 is coming out real soon so i was shocked that people still play this game..and i actually still play my copy just not online…mind your business

  9. Roxa_p

    Not much info on this..

It’s like they said some time ago ” for the next 6 months whe have alot of news to offer”
Whe still dont know much besides some new tracks and cars, some vage info on track editor and modding cars.

Letts hope for some great info before release that makes me count the hours till release.

    1. Swagger897

Honestly that really pissed me of when they did that.. a lot of cars needed to complete the game for one who is just trying to get the full potential out of it without cheating were unavailable. I could never find a #2 Audi R8 for the 24 hours of le mans.. yet I also never had the funds, so there would be no way possible until a secondary option occurred which I’m not going to explain.

Big upset for the community and one of the most frustrating things to get over. So what if we were trading the x1’s for only their color.. it was impossible before the PP difference to get any money quickly at all to buy those prototypes, so people tried to help each other

  10. PepeMickey

Spec 3 with all 1000+ cars now premium, realistic engine sounds, epic damage model with 100 new free DLC cars, Bathurst, Brands Hatch and GT6 for free.

  11. Youngun

And a bonus for me today, GT6 anniversary edition has dropped £10 today at game to £60. Same as ‘5’ then and i feel like im getting much more. Good thing to as both next gen drivers have been delayed til next year.

  12. steebz

    GT6.Just.over.a.month.away.

    :D :D :D

Kaz can take my engine swaps and ultra slammed cars off me if he wants, this game is yesterdays news now.

No delays please PD, my PS3 is begging to be “pushed to it’s limit”

  13. Ingenting87

NOOO dont fix the hybrids :( i am absolutely in love with my 3.4 v8 200sx. Its a beast for drifting.

PD please dont take the fun and “realism” out of a game that is nearly at its end.

engine swap is simply a “must have” in the drifting world.

    1. infamousphil

Lol… still hoping for a return of those whips dropped from the GT2 car list… 840Ci, XKR-15, 300ZX racecar, GTO LM, …

  14. TokoTurismo

It amazes me to know that while PD is working on GT6, they still care about updating GT5. Makes me feel. Safe to say that GT6 will get the same care once its released. :)

My faith in PD is strong as always.

    1. Andyc709292

As a development lead we often have common code components across multiple versions – I’d wager either a beta gt6 update that relies on live code for online or something similar. Doubt we’ll get any benefit in GT5 to be honest.

    2. CNR4806

Your faith is ironic when the Chinese version of GT5P didn’t even get the Spec III update. Talk about quality service.

  15. HarVee

If there is an update to GT5 at this point it’s only going to address hacks like the last few updates have. This server maintenance is most likely to improve server stability for GT6 & 5, nothing more nothing less.

  16. ThatBlokeThere

I know what it is! It’s an update that lets you get out of your car. Or one that allows access to the kiosk menu. Or one including these “simcade” physics Loser10’s been talking about.

  17. HuskyGT

Honestly, at this point…. I really don’t care. What I care about is having GT6 in my hands! I’m depriving myself from touching GT5 or anything car related for now. The anxiety is slowly building up, and when GT6 comes out… Oh man, I’m going to implode of pure excitement.

  18. Voodoovaj

Jesus, talk about a witch hunt. Leave the mods alone FFS. Maybe if they took this coder(s) off the update team they’d have more features for GT6 at launch…you know, like the damage that they showed for GT5 but that never actually made it into the game

  19. praiano63

Here come my helicopter to fly above the ring and my safe house at the castle !!!! With a big garage of course .

  20. GRAN_TURISMAN

Maybe a physics update to get the physics closer to GT6? They did just change the physics on GT6 after the GT Academy demo. We can only hope!
