GTPlanet Weekly Rewind: Gran Turismo 6 Continues to Evolve

Gran Turismo 6

What a week this has been, evolution has become a recurring topic of interest for GT6 not only in the Rewind but the entirety of the news page here at GTPlanet and this past Tuesday Update 1.04 was released providing continual proof that Gran Turismo 6 is a game with a clear intent: to evolve. There are now four new vehicles to race to your hearts content, but the big news – or should I say bigger news is tomorrow is the first of February which means GT6 is preparing to undergo evolution once again. It’s a cycle that’s seemingly never-ending.

What the update will bring is anyone’s best guess, but we do have an idea of what’s on the way, and things are poised to become far more exciting from thereon out. Moving ahead just a little bit before officially kicking things off, the 2014 Formula 1 season is beginning to take shape and while the cars vary between appalling and comparatively decent, the turbocharged V6 engines sound a lot better than what was expected.

If the winter testing at Jerez is any indication Red Bull Racing may be dethroned this year, but let’s not jump ahead just yet as testing is no final indication of what’s the come. Only a bearing shadow casting itself upon what could be.

We’ll get back to this a little later on but for now let’s go into overdrive!

GTPlanet Member of the Week

We missed this last week due to a lack of time but not this week, no, the prized status and stardom that only the Member of the Week can bring has returned! Thus, it is once again time to acknowledge a member of the GTPlanet community; a member who has stood out among the hundreds of thousands of members already here, both old and new alike for all that they’re worth and all they have contributed to the community.

This week we’re placing our second consecutive and third overall GT Photomode regular in the hot seat, so let’s give a warm welcome to yet another Junior member among the ranks, Skython!

The interview is now live and provides the usual share of laughter, but more importantly provides the medium of getting to know your fellow GTP members a little bit better, and his knack for all things photography. For the whole kit-n-kaboodble be sure to stop by the official Member of the Week thread.

GTPlanet Vehicle of the Week

Gran Turismo 6

This week’s featured vehicle has been in the spotlight in some way or another since it’s unveiling, recommended to us by Nelsonatormjn16, the spotlight once again shines on the 2014 Toyota FT-1 Concept.

The name says it all. FT-1 stands for “Future Toyota,” and the number “1” represents the ultimate. According to its designers at Calty Design Research, the FT-1 Concept is the ultimate expression of a Toyota coupe design, building upon Toyota’s rich sports coupe heritage dating back to the 2000GT, Celica, Supra, MR2 and most recently Scion FR-S. In addition, the concept draws inspiration from Calty’s more recent sports car concept work such as FT-HS (2007) and the Lexus LF-LC (2012).

The project started nearly two years ago and represents a labor of love by a passionate, dedicated and gifted Calty design team. “The FT-1 is a dream-project for a designer and car enthusiast like myself,” said Alex Shen, Calty’s Studio Chief Designer. “Our team was heavily influenced by Toyota’s sports car past, especially Celica and Supra, and we sought to capture some of that history. It is an aggressive, track-focused sports car concept with a presence that has been amplified for shock and awe.”

The FT-1’s audacious design represents the pinnacle of Calty’s 40th year of operation. Guided by the Toyota design ethos of Vibrant Clarity, a unique fusion of both emotional and rational factors that delivers a more exciting and dramatic design expression with unique Toyota identity, the concept is a spiritual pace car for Toyota Global Design. The goal of this ideological shift is to develop future generations of products that better connect emotionally with Toyota’s global consumer base.

This week’s featured tune, recommended to us by eclipsee and courtesy of praiano63 features the 2012 KTM X-Bow Street built for the Seasonal Event challenge at Eiger Nordwand.

Victory is the name of the game as usual and if it’s a deserving victory that you’e after and you want to do so with a rocketing track machine, then you’ll want to stop by and see the tune for yourself.

Exactly like the Picture and Vehicle of the Week features, if you have any suggestions for the upcoming Rewinds be sure to drop me a private message, entitle it “GTPlanet Tune of the Week” and let me know. NOTE: You cannot elect your own work.

pmcheader_008

We’ve reset the counter for the sixth chapter in the Gran Turismo series and the photomode competition is back and better than ever.

In Week 8 of the Standard and Advanced competitions for GT6 you are to put your best foot forth and show the community just how seriously you take your in-game photography. All you need to know is as follows:

Week 008, Standard: Turbo vs. NA – Simple theme this week, chose your favourite side and have fun. Car must be in motion so no Phototravel is allowed.

Week 008, Advanced 2.0: Down & Dirty – Get your vehicle out of the showroom and rough it up a bit. Wheather you spin off the track and take a dive in the dirt or running around in some rally, I want to see your car lose it’s shine.

Closing Thoughts

What can I say about the upcoming 2014 season of Formula 1? The general prospect of things are a lot better than what I had anticipated late last year, and while the cars vary from appalling to comparatively decent as I’ve said earlier, this could very well be a lively season, but of course, we’ll have to wait until the inaugural Australian Grand Prix to get a taste of what’s to come.

What do the cars look like you ask? Well I won’t show all of them, but I will show you this just to give you a general idea of how things conform to the new regulations that have been set forth:

That, for those of you who don’t know is the Sahara Force India VJM07, and if you’re looking at the front nose cone, well, I can’t really blame you. It’s weird. The V6 turbos poised to be used this year and for the next several thereafter sound a lot better than what I would have imagined. Of course, the real fun comes in March, but until then the winter testing at Jerez will have to do.

You know me, I could go on and on about F1 for days (this is the one-billionth time I’ve mentioned the sport since the Rewind’s early beginning) so we’ll leave it there for now and will revisit things as necessary leading up to the start of the season!

Well, I’m already excited for some motor racing action and it isn’t even February yet! I missed the 24 Hours of Daytona which means I also missed the debut of the C7.R, and that’s something I’ll need to rectify as soon as possible.

I’m spent. Until next week, keep racing!
