GTPlanet Weekly Rewind: The 1.5 Million Dollar Question

Gran Turismo 6

The community here at GTPlanet has been as active as ever, if you haven’t taken notice by now, we have a new GT Suggestions forum where you can let your imagination run wild and list your suggestions that you firmly believe would make Gran Turismo the game of your dreams – whether it be with additional vehicles, tracks, or features. There’s plenty of activity already so I’ll take a moment to list off some of my favorites:

Grindelwald is one of my all-time favorite locations from GT’s past and I’d love to see it (and several other tracks!) return to the series. It doesn’t end there either, with well over 70 pages for the Cars Suggestion sub-forum alone, you can imagine the wealth of passion shared among us all.

Next up, there’s going to be yet another taste of what’s to come as we all prepare for next week’s debut of the GTPlanet Quiz of the Week, so you’ll definitely want to keep a lookout for that later on in the Rewind, and remember, the teasers do not reflect the feature as a whole in terms of difficulty. As mentioned last week, the quizzes won’t be too difficult at first but you wouldn’t want things to be too easy, now would you?

The Sunday Cup

new logo

No, not that Sunday Cup, haven’t we been over this already? Once again championed by GTPlanet’s own GTP_ADE, the Sunday Cup has returned for its fifth illustrious season of Lotus nirvana that takes pace over the course of fifteen weeks, but unlike previous efforts this season of the championship series doesn’t revolve around one car that evolves over the course of time.

Previous Sunday cups have seen us driving one car for the entire season, with upgrade’s available every 2 weeks. There’s no upgrades this time, instead we will change cars every 2 races. The cars must be set up as per the graphics below.

The tuning applied to all the cars is designed to replicate the power and weight of their real world racing counterparts, and I have gone to great lengths to ensure these are as accurate as possible. In addition to these race ready replicas, some of the races will be held at tracks where these cars secured some of their famous racing history and heritage. Links to this heritage can be found by clicking on the car spec graphics.

S4 CALENDAR

The season has just kicked off this past Sunday so there’s more than enough time to jump in to things and give it your all as there are real prizes at stake, and this time the Lotus has their own stake in it, with support from the official Facebook page and the official forum website.

So, what are you waiting for? Get a move on and stop by the official thread for all the information and join in on the fun!

Gran Praiano 6: Car Setups for Gran Turismo 6 – 100 Tunes!

Graphic1

‘Gran Praiano 6’ is your one-stop-app for quick and reliable setups for many of your favorite cars found in GT6. The tunes, put together by GTPlanet’s very own praiano63, will sound familiar as his work has been featured here on multiple occasions.

The app has just reached a milestone of 100 tunes, which is great effort by Praiano63. The app is currently on sale now for Android on Google Play and will be available very shortly for Apple iOS on the App Store. Hobbyist developer Daisey273 has included many app features such as sort and search functions, tuning guides, and a tune sheet closely representing the design of a car setup.

Visit Praiano’s tuning garage thread and direct all app specific questions to the Gran Praiano 6 App Thread including Android, Apple iOS or other questions.

Gran Turismo 6 Pushes the PS3 to its Limits

“As has become something of a tradition with each new Gran Turismo game (and demo), the digital imaging specialists of EuroGamer’s Digital Foundry blog have completed their technical analysis of Gran Turismo 6 to see how things are working under the hood.

When Digital Foundry looked at the GT6 demo that hosted GT Academy 2013, they were impressed with the game’s increased resolution and lighting effects, but noted these improvements came at the expense of a smooth frame rate.”

Here it is, your second taste before the debut next week! Feel free to answer this in the official GTPlanet Weekly Rewind thread.

Given a 1 lap lead just wasn’t enough for the Mini to take the win against this opponent from Gran Turismo 3, despite having such a Grand advantage.

Bonus: What was the file name used? It must be exact.

GTPlanet Vehicle of the Week

Gran Turismo 6

This week’s featured vehicle was built to be blue, recommended to us by Nelsonatormjn16, we’re taking a look at the Renault 8.

In 1962, major changes were under way for Renault’s range of rear-powered vehicles (engine in the trunk). Sales of the Dauphine were plummeting and the management was in search of an innovative project to give the market new impetus. The solution? To bring forward the launch of the R8, which debuted on June 16, 1962, almost one year ahead of schedule!

The R8 followed on from the Dauphine but featured a bolder and more ergonomic design. The bodylines were drawn by Barthaux and his inventive team. Innovative design features included a choice of eight elegant body colours and a large glazed area. From a technical standpoint, the main innovation was the Bendix disc brakes on all four wheels, a world first! The R8 nevertheless suffered teething problems and continued to be associated with the Dauphine in the minds of the general public. But in 1964, it found a way to make a name for itself.

January 1964 saw the appearance of the Major, a beefed-up version of the R8. With a top speed of 135 kph, it featured a new 1,108 cm3 engine mated to a fully synchronized 4-speed gearbox. The interior boasted, among other features, front seats with adjustable backrests, arm rests on the doors, black or fawn leatherette upholstery and a courtesy mirror. The R8 thus gained enhanced status …for a more enjoyable passenger experience.

But the best of the R8 was yet to come. In October, Renault presented the new Gordini 1100 at the Paris Motor Show. Sold exclusively in a color known as “French blue”, with twin white lines running the length of the body, it established a new legend: a car that brought the thrills of sporty driving within the reach of an entire generation.

GTPlanet Tune of the Week

TwinRingMotegiRoadCourse_zps8e439db5

This week’s featured tune, recommended to us by tuning aficionado danbojte and courtesy of Ridox2JZGTE, features the Toyota 86 GT under the guise of the Turbo Demo Car from Powerhouse Amuse – that’s right, a replica.

The famous Amuse Turbo 86 Demo car. Final stage turbo build running high boost at over 1 Bar, producing just over 425PS / 420HP. Max target power during build stage was 460+PS at 1.5 Bar of boost, but to increase engine durability, power was set at 420HP.

Engine was built from the ground up, with better internals, custom intercooler and Amuse expertise in custom fabrication. Using most of Amuse tune up products, this car is a true testament of Amuse high quality and durability.

Victory is the name of the game as usual and if it’s a deserving victory that you’e after and you want to do so using a turbocharged powerhouse, then you’ll want to stop by and see the tune for yourself.

Exactly like the Picture and Vehicle of the Week features, if you have any suggestions for the upcoming Rewinds be sure to drop me a private message, entitle it “GTPlanet Tune of the Week” and let me know. NOTE: You cannot elect your own work.

GTPlanet Photomode Competitions

pmcheader_010

We’ve reset the counter for the sixth chapter in the Gran Turismo series and the photomode competition is back and better than ever.

In Week 10 of the Standard and Advanced competitions for GT6 you are to put your best foot forth and show the community just how seriously you take your in-game photography. All you need to know is as follows:

Week 010, Standard: As Close as You Dare – This should be simple enough….take a close-up of any car you want. Also, try to add some bokeh to the mix, if you want to.”

Week 010, Advanced 2.0: Blur vs. Oasis – “Blur = Speed: Action & Aggression
Oasis = Static: Peace & Tranquility
Simple, just pick a side and shoot something on any track that fits either of the above.”

For all of the relevant information pertaining to this week’s challenges be sure to stop by here and here.

Closing Thoughts

A Vision GT speedboat. A speedboat. That is just about the most unexpected thing to ever happen in a game where the closest we’ve ever come to seeing any kind of boat is at Cote d’Azur. What does this mean for Gran Turismo? I haven’t the foggiest clue, but for some reason I am most interested because if that wasn’t shocking then I don’t know what is.

With that being said it’s time to close another chapter of the Rewind, so until next week, keep racing!
