GTPlanet Weekly Rewind: The Allure of Gran Turismo’s Vision

10955141473_879d738248_z We’re two weeks away from experiencing Gran Turismo 6 and the timing is impeccable; with the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One out and about, the established platforms — the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 — are slowly going to regress into anonymity. Of course the platforms will continue to be showered in exclusive releases, but it won’t be much longer until the lion’s share of the focus is aimed toward the future.

At this particular juncture, the phrase “the future” is one to be viewed from both ends of the spectrum in regards to Gran Turismo. On one hand there’s the upcoming Gran Turismo 6 which will undoubtedly the last entry in the series on the PlayStation 3, but at the same time serving as a testament that the last generation is still capable. On the other hand you have the real possibility that Gran Turismo 7 could appear as early as next year in some capacity, and you have to ask yourself one question: where does Gran Turismo go from here?

The immediate conclusion would be to introduce the many features still absent from the series, but does it end there? Gran Tursimo 6 could very well be a sign of things to come with the Vision GT concept; a means to an end, a way to seamlessly make the Gran Turismo brand and its likeness a household name.

GTPlanet Picture of the Week

10985146994_6a01667f75_z

This week is as much about the environment as last week; autumn is a colorful time of year where the ground beneath your feet (or tires) is sprinkled with leaves deprived of their natural colors, an ironic beauty if there ever was such a thing.

This week’s featured image, brought to us by NBDESIGNZ, showcases the McLaren 12C coupe in a pristine autumn environment.

Have a suggestion for next week’s featured image? Drop me a private message, entitle it “GTPlanet Picture of the Week” and fill it out with your two choices and they’ll be featured in upcoming Rewinds. NOTE: You cannot elect your own work.

Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo Revealed

kazunori-mb-vision-gt-2

The Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision GT vehicle has been revealed, and is an incredibly fierce-looking vehicle if I’ve ever seen one. Featuring “extreme proportions” the car is powered by a bi-turbo V8 engine producing 585 horsepower and 800 Nm of torque (approximately 590 ft lbs).

The interesting take from all of this — as if the vehicle itself wasn’t interesting enough — is the special exhaust note:

The AMG sports exhaust system with eight tailpipes integrated into the rear end provides a powerful accompaniment whenever the car accelerates, and ensures an unrivalled motorsports sound experience.

For fans of Gran Turismo® 6, the Mercedes-AMG sound specialists have created a powerful, sonorous exhaust note that authentically celebrates the V8′s love of high engine speeds.

GTPlanet Weekly Race Series (WRS) Week 144: Max Headroom

wrstitlestimetrials2

The farewells continue in the WRS leading up to the release of Gran Turismo 6 but you can’t do a proper farewell for one chapter without featuring the McLaren F1 and that’s where the spotlight is this week.

We couldn’t let GT5 end without doing a time trial with this legendary car. The Racing Hard tires will make it a little less lethal, and by a little we mean barely. Summon your courage, muster your bravery, give it your all on this 2nd-to-last GT5 WRS Time Trial!

Gran Turismo 5

Stop by the official thread here and remember that you NEED to be registered before officially participating in the WRS, and that can only be done by submitting a time for the official GTP Registry Qualifier.

GTPlanet Member of the Week

This has been one crazy week but it is once again time to acknowledge a member of the GTPlanet community; a member who has stood out among the hundreds of thousands of members already here, both old and new alike for all that they’re worth and all they have contributed to the community.

We welcome yet another Junior member into the ranks, and as they continue to take over it has brought about a more cheerful ambiance in the Member of the Week madhouse, but you need me to tell you that, do you? Let’s give a very warm welcome to the newest member to find a vacant apartment in the ever-expanding MotW madhouse, Dennisch!

The interview is now live and provides the usual share of laughter, but more importantly provides the medium of getting to know your fellow GTP members a little bit better. For the whole kit-n-kaboodble be sure to stop by the official Member of the Week thread.

Anyone you’d like to see recognized as the Member of the Week? Drop me a private message, entitle it “GTPlanet Member of the Week” and fill it out with your choices and they’ll be featured in upcoming Rewinds. NOTE: You cannot nominate yourself.

GTPlanet Vehicle of the Week

Presented at the 42nd Tokyo Motor Show in 2011, Subaru announced the BRZ, a rear wheel drive car featuring a horizontally-opposed Boxer engine. The BRZ is the product concept of “Pure Handling Delight”.

It was developed as a joint-project between Subaru and Toyota Motor Corporation, to bring to the world a sports car with superior steering response and driving pleasure that everyone can experience.

The Subaru Boxer engine in BRZ was positioned even lower than other Subaru models so that BRZ has one of the lowest possible centers of gravity on the market today. This low center of gravity produces astonishing handling character and combined with a light weight chassis BRZ realizes Subaru’s aim for Pure Handling Delight — the driving experience taken to a new level.

GTPlanet Photomode Competitions

apmcheaderwk155

In Week 155 of the Standard and Advanced competitions you are to put your best foot forth and show the community just how seriously you take your in-game photography. All you need to know is as follows:

Week 155, Standard: Sympathy for the Devil – “Show us the most diabolic scene you can find in GT5, the most satanic car you own, the most devilish arrangement you can offer! Be creative and have fun! “It’s just the nature of my game.”

Week 155, Advanced 2.0: An Eye For Detail – “Time to get creative. I’d like you to take your best close up shot and capture some detail. It could be busy detail or even simple detail. Tight crops, creative angles, isolated features, abstract shapes, dof. Let your lense go wild.”

For all of the relevant information pertaining to this week’s challenges be sure to stop by here and here.

Closing Thoughts

What an undertaking this week turned out to be! The Rewind was late this week and I do apologize if it has caused any inconvenience, but I have a fantastic excuse, two of them in fact. One, the week swept right by and before I knew it it was already Thursday evening and I was woefully unprepared; silly me, I know. Two, I’ve been tied up in Forza Motorsport 5 and in less than two weeks from now I’ll be tied up in both Forza Motorsport 5 and Gran Turismo 6.

Let’s have a moment of silence for my sanity. Now that we’ve had our moment of silence, for those of you familiar with the official Rewind thread or becoming a member of our fine community here, you’ll want to skip ahead to “The two paragraphs above…”.

Remember folks if you want to share your opinions on this week’s entry you’ll have to stop by the official Rewind thread to do so, which is where you’ll eventually be re-directed once the new comments system is put into active service so you’d might as well get a head start!

Now a message from our sponsor, me:

While you’re salivating at the very thought of Gran Turismo 6 finding itself into your PlayStation 3 this coming December why not take the time to become a full-fledged member of our wonderful community. It’s free and we have cake! Okay, we don’t have cake (the cake is and always will be a lie, remember this!) but we do have a strong community and we’re always talking about something interesting. If you aren’t already a member you should join today and maybe you can work out a patented antidote for “Lying Cake Syndrome”. Seriously, it’s been years since I’ve had cake.

The two paragraphs above this one are the only ones that are going to be carried over from article to article from hereon out for reasons outlined in last week’s Rewind, but for those of you that missed it or may have forgotten, I’m not going to be plugging my Twitter page for the foreseeable future as I’m using it less and less as the days go by. It will return at some point but for now the account that was originally intended as a parody will serve no imminent purpose.

Gran Turismo 6 is near. Are you ready? Until next week, keep racing!
