Circuit de la Sarthe
From GTPlanet Game Guides
This is the legendary track on which the 24 Hours of Le Mans is raced. It traces back to the early 1920's when it was used in the French Grand Prix. The track layout today is largly the same as it was in the 1930's aside from the addition of chicanes and modifications to several of the turns. Until 1990, the Mulsanne Straight was an incredibly long stretch of road (six kilometers long!) uninterupted until the hairpin turn onto the backroads. The Straight was not without its perils, however. A couple of recent incidents include the fatal 1986 crash of Jo Gartner and the incidents involving the Mercedes-Benz CLR's in which two of them flipped due to aerodynamic problems in 1999. Also, it is the site of numerous retirements each year from tyre blow-outs and engine failure.
