The Playstation 3 is a gaming system released by Sony Computer Entertainment in late 2006 for NTSC and NTSC-J Territories, and in early 2007 for PAL areas.
It is the third in the line of consoles released by Sony Computer Entertainment, preceded by the Playstation and Playstation 2.

Components
It is powered by the Cell Microprocessor, which was designed by IBM. The PS3 uses 7 out of the 8 cores included, and developers can use 6, with the 7th being reserved for the OS.
The Graphics are processed by the NVIDIA RSX (Reality Synthesizer), which contains 256MB of video RAM. It also includes 256MB of XDR RAM.
The main media format is the Blu-Ray disc, although there are a few games available on the Playstation store.
Gran Turismo
There are currently 2 Gran Turismo games out for the PS3, Gran Turismo 5: Prologue and Gran Turismo HD, the next game in the series; Gran Turismo 5 is currently in production and is slated for release in 2009 (although dates are subject to change.)
Output
AV Multi out (Composite/S-Video)
This cable consists of an AV Multi out connector (Port is found on the back of PS3), and Composite (Red, White, and Yellow connectors) or S-Video (One connector, separate audio cables such as a Optical connector is also needed), they both display in 480i
AV Multi out (Component)
This cable consists of an AV Multi out connector (port found of back of PS3), and Component (Green, Red, and Blue connectors), it can display in 480p, 720i and 1080i.
HDMI out
This cable consists of two HDMI connectors on either side, and is regarded as the best form of video output for the PS3, it has a max resolution of 1080p.
Optical Audio out
This cable is just for audio, and will require a cable to send video, either AV Multi out or HDMI.
