I wouldn't expect this to be something in the norm, because obviously that would be far to much of a budget to interest most developers. However, I could see Polyphony delving into that evolution of clarity and realism where this is the focus. Of course nobody is racing around Nurburgring for any other reason than to pick at the inconsistencies of the texturing and reflections of the models, so I wouldn't expect this much realism to be included in racing modes of any kind.

I'm not going to say that its beyond what PS3 could handle either. Polyphony has proven time and time again what they can accomplish within the limits of the Playstation. I would even go so far as to compare GT4 with some next gen racing games, that in mind GT4 consumed roughly 30% of the PS2's processing capacity.

Not only that but this kind of realism is what is going to eventually set the PS3 apart from the competition. Blueray has more capacity to run games in this defintion in more lengthy or bigger fashion than regular DVD or HD-DVD ever will. This is what is going to be the defining difference between real next gen machines vs. what's being considered "next gen."

Just my opinion.

What sets GT5P, or even GT3 and GT4 apart from even the lastest generation of racing sim is how PD managed to seamlessly integrate the cars onto the environments. Simbin's latest Lizard Engine while not entirely build for purpose of great graphics, but when run at its highest resolution, the cars do look quite amazing. But where it fails is in the animation of cars- even in GTR2 the cars still seem to float and without proper body roll or suspension movement. You can even see as if the cars been pasted onto the tracks and with shadowns that doesn;'t look quite right. While I'm looking forward to next generation of GT, I would say despite the problem with anti-aliasing (inherent in all PS3 games), and the fact that its running at 1920x1080 and still managed a solid 60 fps (except ocassional hiccup which further optimization will hopefully eliminate) in racing mode (30fps in replay mode) is more than adequate for the proper GT5.

I wouldn't expect it to be at this level of quality - it's clear that these guys want a job at PD and I hope they get it.

Personally, the graphics on GT5P are amazing as it is - I'd prefer a deeper gaming experience rather than a deeper visual eyefest. Modelling a 3D car is hard work, could you imagine having to factor in a workable physics engine too?

@ Akash
1. Can you show us some pics of your self-made models of similar quality?
2. How does a background create its own light sources and why would that make it more realistic?

Quote:"Gran Turismo 5 will be great and I have no doubt that this will be the level of detail. It is taking very long to come but the longer it takes, the better it will be when it finally comes out."

ROLMFAO!! Yeah right, GT5 is going to look as good as that...in your dreams. If you want that level of quality in-game, you'd better skip the next generation. Sure, the car models will approximate that level of detail, but the environment around it and the reflections will be nowhere near that level of detail.

I think GT5p graphics is good enough to compare to this except the interior, lighting(in game gameplay), and tire graphics, but everything looks good just take a real closer look at the replay mode.

GT5 won't look as good as this but i'm just thinking of the Koeinsegg at Suzuka right now in a nice red and black with a nice big wing on the back and a front splitter. Throw in some racing suspension, racing brakes, a stage 4 N/A tune and some racing tires and you have an everything killer.
