Don’t Ask Kazunori Yamauchi About GT5

Monday, June 1st, 2009

kazunori-yamauchiJust when we thought this roller coaster ride was about to come to an end, we find there’s one more scary drop: Sony is reportedly telling everyone interviewing Kazunori Yamauchi “to not mention Gran Turismo 5“.  So…what does this mean?  Obviously, it’s not good – presuming that Gran Turismo 5 is announced at Sony’s big press conference tomorrow, why couldn’t he talk about it?  It may, ultimately, come down to Sony not wanting any GT5 announcements to dwarf GT Mobile and the new PSP Go hardware, in which case, we may be waiting several more months for news about the big game.

Of course, optimists in our forums have quickly called Sony out, speculating this may be some kind of trick – but it’s little more than gossip at this point.  GT Mobile overshadowing GT5 is just a tough pill to swallow.  Stay tuned…

Gran Turismo Mobile Confirmed For E3 2009

Saturday, May 30th, 2009

A leaked clip from the upcoming edition of the PlayStation Qore video magazine confirms that Gran Turismo Mobile will be announced at E3 2009!  As you can watch above, the man sitting on the left (who appears to be SCEA Director of Hardware Marketing, John Koller) drops the bombshell while introducing the new PSP Go…

sony-psp-go-clip-small“A lot of people say ‘I just want to buy games’, and there’s games like Gran Turismo which are being announced at E3.”

In addition to this exciting tidbit, the video also reveals a lot of technical information about the new PSP Go, including its “slider” form factor, 16GB of internal memory, Bluetooth, and a currently mysterious memory card slot.  It’s also going to ship this fall, and will co-exist with the PSP-3000 -- for now…  Stay tuned for more details as E3 begins next week!

Gran Turismo 5 Set for E3 Announcement

Friday, May 29th, 2009

e3logoIt’s been quite a roller coaster as we wait for confirmation regarding Gran Turismo 5’s appearance at next week’s E3 2009.  Things started out good, when our own Amar212 shared some cryptically optimistic information regarding an E3 announcement, but hopes were dashed when Sony’s biggest franchise was missing from their lineup for the show.  Today, we’re back up again, with encouraging words from an apparently reputable French PlayStation magazine, PSM3.

First picked up by GTPlanet user vannardini, other reports of PSM3’s article have been trickling in.  Let’s hope they are right – of course, with E3 2009 right around the corner, we won’t have to wait long to find out!

GT5 Missing from Sony’s Rumored E3 Lineup

Friday, May 8th, 2009

e3-worriesA rumored list Sony’s list of games to be presented at E3 2009 has popped up, and it has a lot of people talking – not for the games that are on the list, but for the game that is not: Gran Turismo 5.  We have anxiously been waiting for what Sony has called one of their “biggest events in the past 11 years“, and many legitimiate sources have hinted that GT5 and Gran Turismo Mobile for the PSP would both be making an appearance at the show.  Of course, it makes sense, given the fact that it has been so long since we’ve heard any news about the development from Kazunori Yamauchi, and the next big game show (Tokyo Game Show) doesn’t hit until September.

Before you get too worried, though, keep in mind that this is a rumored list from a questionable source.  Even if it is the “real deal”, the author mentioned that ” there will be more [games], but they will be surprises.”  Hopefully we will get a better idea of what to expect as June draws near…  Stay tuned!

Gran Turismo Mobile Coming to New PSP?

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

GT Mobile

The pieces of the puzzle are starting to fall into place!  Heavy rumors about the PSP2 were just released today by gaming site 1UP, and Gran Turismo Mobile popped up on their radar.   Hardware details will remain sketchy until the system is announced at E3, but we do know that the original PSP’s UMD media format will be dropped in favor of software downloads.  From 1UP’s article:

gran_turismo_mobile_umdIn addition, since the UMD is going away, Sony will have over 100 classic and new PSP titles available for download at launch (Gran Turismo Mobile is said to be one of the premier launch titles).

They go on to mention the PSP2 is set to launch in October/November of this year – a date which should ring a bell to frequent readers.  November falls closely in line with what our own insider, Amar212, has been saying for some time now.  Other details from his cryptic postings also help connect the dots.  In regards to the PSP2, for example, Amar states:

Sixth wind is telling the tale about different reunion but almost the same as known one, smaller only for the eyes of those who do not want to see it in its whole glory. That different reunion will not happen in the realm same as the known one, but in the different realm which still has not been uncovered to the bird tamers. That realm will resemble realm already known but it will be divine new and made in the image of it.

This makes even more sense when viewed in context of a PSP2 launch.  Of course, this raises the question: would Sony actually want to release the massive Gran Turismo 5 alongside Gran Turismo Mobile?  It’s certainly a possibility, but things get a little more interesting when you consider other statements by Amar…

First wind whispers that final reunion will happen thirty nights before twelve months pass and that all winds from the whole world will reunite in the same moment for the first time.

That’s open to interpretation – is Amar referring to the 11th month of the year (November), or 11 months from the date he posted his message (March)?  Assuming that Sony does not want to release two GT games at the same time, a March launch of GT5 suddenly begins to look much more likely…

Stay tuned for more details!
