Jean Sibelius - Finlandia

This piece is 115 years old. I first heard it in fourth or fifth grade when our music teacher
played it for us on a vinyl record player. Lars was his name.
The first minute blew me away with the sheer force of the music.

I remember he always reeked of liquor and had a great temper, but he was very kind
and loved his classical music. Most of the other students ridiculed him and never payed
much attention to his learnings but not me. I grew to enjoy his classes and to this day I remember
what he tried to teach us about Beethoven, Mozart, Bach, Satie and all the others.
Here's to you Lars.
