People still get paid, so they are hardly indentured servants. But yes, I am fine with making everyone contribute a portion of their income for a service that anyone can use and which benefits everyone.

Because the freedom for you to keep x percent of your income is less important than ensuring anyone can walk into a hospital and have their illnesses and injuries treated.
You can't opt out because everyone contributes and everyone benefits. The system breaks down if you are allowed to opt out.

Agreed. Chassis choice basically comes down to what is popular and well supported at your local tracks. Dealer support is worth more than the difference between an Arrow or a CRG or a Tony Kart.
As for engine, the best is the one that consistently attracts big fields at your local tracks...
So I've been too lazy to write a report. I'll get to it though. :p
In the mean time here is a video from practice. The majority of it is me driving but my team mate jumped in for a lap at the end just to weigh himself.
Since we're all talking Rotax I sold my old kart and engine (03 Rotax) and bought a brand new 2011 Rotax a few weeks ago.
I ran it in last weekend on my friend's chassis and it felt really strong. The bottom end is insane compared to the old engine. Can't wait to see how I go with lap times...
Racing in the rain is good fun. What's not so fun is being eternally wet and freezing cold, constantly having to clean your kart, swapping tyres constantly when it dries up and then rains again, etc.
The actual driving is lots of fun though.
