K, so I drive a near stock S13 240sx. Only mods are intake and strut bars.......read: I HAVE AN OPEN DIFF WITH 130whp lol.

Anyways, Here's what pasengers with me see on a rainy night.... Just not so dark (damned camera)

And I know I know, flame on. I can't afford to go to "Drift days" that they have 2 times a year 150 miles away in ATL. So the streets are my only option. I keep in my lane when their are any cars in site though and try not to do it next to/close to them. Though I must admitt, sometimes I'll go for a blast at my usual spots in rush hour and can't resist showing off some sideways......can't imagine what that'd look like from their perspective..... lol.

Err, No. Not doing it is an option. Or saving money to do it. I assumed you saved money to buy the car, and purchase your 'upgrades'.

Though I must admitt, sometimes I'll go for a blast at my usual spots in rush hour and can't resist showing off some sideways......can't imagine what that'd look like from their perspective..... lol.

That's just idiocy. That's what it looks like from their perspective, that some idiot is drifting around public roads in rush hour.

If you can't afford a 'drift day' then you won't be able to afford the bill when you crash your car into a pole, into someone else's car, a pedestrian....

It's a polite way of calling you a tosser.

Now, I could lock this and give you all kinds of reprimands - to which you'd probably react badly and claim I have no life or whatever the usual response of those who behave how they feel like on the public roads without any regard for public safety is - but it'll be much easier for me to leave it open and watch as you're slowly roasted alive by GTPlanet's members.

There is an intolerance for the kind of person I describe above here at GTPlanet - and you've just dropped yourself into that group, along with the streetracers.

Hopefully you'll learn from the treatment you're likely to receive - though I doubt it likely that you'll learn enough to stop driving like a pillock on public streets.
 
Funny... when I lived in Buffalo, being broke and carless, I had to walk around a lot... because Buffalo is a place that receives lots of snow and ice and overally freezing temps, people on the streets used to drive very carefully, and still lose control every now and then, which was especially dangerous although they weren't going above 30 mph.

Enter tosser rsmithdrift, going at a high rate of speed, music at full blast, at night (not being able to see if there are pedestrians) and with wet roads. And forcing the car to slide...

Yes offence (as opposed to 'no offence') but you are a grade A idiot. Since you can't afford for a track day I'm assuming you won't be able to afford for a crash or running over someone while you're 'drifting'. So you have insurance. Please read it, here's surely a part that says something to the effect of only paying if you're driving under the law. So if you're drunk, stoned or in idiot mode, they tend to wash their hands and not pay.

And even if you have all inclusive insurance, then you're paying a hell of a lot of money, which would force the conclusion that you do have a lot of money, hence you can pay for a track day.
 
Doing it in the day is one thing, but at night? That's complete disregard for safety of others.

Do you drift when there are cars behind you? What happens when you spin-out and end up right in front of them? What if there's a kid in the front seat?
 
Rsmithdrift, I want to see you walk into the room at the hospital with the guy you hit while you were drifting. He says he saw you slow down before the corner he wanted to cross the street at, so he thought you were going right onto the parking lot and just forgot to indicate. Only when he had stepped into the road, he realised that you slowed down because you wanted to make your car drift. It was too late, and you hit him in he side with your rear right fender. That dent is well repairable, there are fairly cheap replacement fenders on eBay. Just a bit of paint, and there you go. Just too bad you put a 19 year old kid into a wheelchair though, and you will pay for him for the rest of your life. Two lifes ruined with a blip of the throttle - congrats! 👍

This might be fictional, but not as far away as you think.

Driving like that undoubtedly looks "cool" for some people but for those who know what it can cause it's just idiocy with a capital I.

I myself have almost been run down by some jerk who decided to drift his pickup truck in a junction, with me walking on the sidewalk. Luckily I heard and saw him coming and managed to step to the side of the road before the damn truck ended up right on the sidewalk... just imagine what would have happened if the person in question would have been, for example, an old lady and not a young man who can run for his life.

I wasn't sure on contemptible myself, so I looked that up too:

Which lead me to reproach:

"Reproach: 1. Express disapproval to (a person) for a fault etc."

Which all seems to fit quite nicely here.
 
I highly doubt he'll show himself around these parts anytime soon after the grill he's been subjected to.

I guarantee you this: to others, it looks like you're being a complete retard. When I see kids doing absolutely senseless things, I am not impressed; I just hope to Christ that they don't hit anyone. That tree? I wouldn't mind seeing them plow right into it.
 
Oh man this is getting a little funny, and harsh. Honestly, an open parking lot with no one around would have been a smarter option. GTP isn't the right audience to show this off, maybe streetfire is the place or you where people videotape and post idiotic things.;)
 
My friend drifts on public roads, just barely, but it's also on a mountain with no traffic around, so if he screws up, he only hurts himself and his own car. He slows down when cars are around, until he can pass it on a 2 lane section and get a good 3 turns ahead so he has enough time to get out of the way if he spins.

This just shows that even if you really want do it in the streets, you can still take simple measures to keep it safe as you possible can.(drifting on public roads with cars in sight the whole time, in a place where someone could be walking on the sidewalk is not an example of that) Anything can happen on the streets, but when crashing your car and hurting only yourself is the worst you can do, at least that is a decision you can make yourself.
 
I'm not going to jump in and call you an idiot for acting like a jackass on public roads, as no one else should because let's face it - We've all done something stupid and/or illegal on public roads before. 95% of the people who've posted break the speed limit daily so whatever...

But I will call you a bad drifter. In fact, you're not a drifter at all. You power slide in the rain and look as if you're about to lose control at all times. Combine that with the fact that it's wet and there's a ton of traffic, you're an idiot. You live in TN - There's an SCCA chapter close to you. Go to an autocross and practice there. Better yet, have them set up a drift day event. If they won't, find someone who will sponsor it and a business with a parking lot big enough to hold the venue. Failing all of that, an empty parking lot at night by yourself is a far better option than doing it on wet public roads with oncoming cars. You may think you've got yourself under control, but you can't control anyone else. And if you're doing something stupid and someone pulls out in front of you and you hit them, guess what? You're at fault - And you're getting heavily fined because to police, it's not "drifting", it's "wreckless operation of a motor vehicle"

For the mountain roads I know, there isn't traffic...except for occasional dump trucks and logging trucks. Drift around a blind corner, and you may smack right into one. It might throw you into a ravine, totalling your car, and your skeleton, while leaving the truck with but a scratch. That's okay, right, because you're the only one hurt? I guarantee you that the truck driver will never get over it. You're the only one hurt, but not the only one affected.

Back when I was in high school, a girl ran a red light "because it was taking so long". The traffic light in question was at an intersection about a mile from my house. It was an absolute Godsend when they put that light in, as you can't see anything coming in either direction. Despite this, she ran it, and was hit by a firetruck, which is what held the light red in the first place. It's a miracle she wasn't killed (Firetruck going 55 + Acura Legend = bad), but even so, the firefighters were so shaken and in shock, that they had to be attended to by paramedics (a different crew, that is). No permanent damage done, but lives changed nonetheless.

The left turns arn't blind, because you can see across to the other side of the turn, and right turns have the lane plus another piece of pavement around 1.5 lanes wide on the inside. A spin at 30mph around that corner won't even let you cross into the other side of the road, and if you still manage to hit a truck, it will only happen if he is doing something stupid as well. Plus, we only see 1 or 2 cars the entire time, the road isn't heavily used. It's still not a smart thing to do, but like I said, its still a hell of a lot safer than drifting around in the city streets.

My point still remains. - Even if you are going to drift in public places, there are way safer times, places, and ways of going about doing it.

If I were a truck driver, and I'd see a drifting car appear out of nowhere in a mountain road turn, I couldn't guarantee that I wouldn't do aynthing stupid. If you don't expect a certain situation, your reaction can be totally wrong.

Seriously though, just think of it as a good advice from us and it's mostly for YOUR OWN GOOD. It's not like we hate you or anything, we're just being realistic with you. It may feel cool while doing it, but I bet you $1000 that you'd feel a thousand times more worthless when you wake up in a hospital with the police outside, ready to let you know that you killed 1 or more people.
