It is basically a person that hacks into the game itself and makes it where they can switch car parts like engines and in aliens case wings.

I could see hacking software that was on a computer, but how do you hack a playstation? there is no keyboard and there is no access to the operating system, like File Manager allows on the computer. Do they put the software on a computer, hack it, and then put it back on the playstation?

I am not a computer geek but I think you upload your GT6 software on to a USB drive and edit it on the computer.

From what I heard they run the GT6 disk on the PC and with a modding tool they hack the cars.

Sounds pretty cool, however PD isn't a fan of it. Basically, it would be awesome if that function was just available within GT6. That would solve the problem with modders.

Then GT6 could just "tag" cars that have been modded and give an option for online lobbies to limit or exclude those tagged cars.

Yeah but you guys have penalties on. You don't know terror until you are racing with penalties off and headed into the tunnel and see nothing but smoke ahead. :D

In situations like that, people should remember that it really is best to slow down to make sure you clear traffic. If you were driving with a wreck up ahead concealed behind a smokescreen, it's just common sense!
I know the terror of which you speak and adjust my approach accordingly. Unfortunately this didn't work out well for me in one of the races last night because it was lag smoke and not a real wreck. While that was unfortunate, I'll take that over a lag bump or being disco'd.

I suspect this has come up before, but can anything be done about divisional lag? There were a few drivers last night with lag issues, one of which seemed to have it really bad. From the conversation at the time it seemed that it was likely to continue in the future, though I could have misinterpreted the discussion. As someone else already mentioned (farris perhaps?), there is no better racing defense than to lag slightly.

I agree with whoever (Dragon Whiskey I think?) posted their theory of lobby connections last week which makes me think that there's nothing we SNAILs can do about the issue, provided we continue to sort our divisions by speed. If that's the case I'll just deal with it; the good here far, far, far outweighs the bad.

So back to my question on how to avoid these people so as to not get in trouble with your account. How can you avoid them before going into a room and then finding out they are modders and then having PD consider you to have been in a room with them? Do you have to actually run a race in that room?

Last night in D7 first race the drivers on the grid could only see 5 cars (each driver could see 5 cars and not necessarily the same 5). We went with it..and being last away.(.I was still counting cars as the rest paid attention to 3 2 1.....) I could see all understeering madly into and for some partially into turn one....and was glad to be last....from then on all was "average" meaning some little lags but no major events other than individual connection problems. Can it be that the "web" is not up to us rather than the other way around.

It seemed like this weekend was a bit heavy on connection issues... not just SNAIL last night, but other leagues as well... from the "invisible" issue I described earlier, to some pretty serious warping and then I disconned after round 3 qualifier.

Foul connections afoot.

Could someone explain what a modder is. And how would I know if I am in a room with one. And even if I could tell, could it be too late, since I have already been in the room? And how about if I created my own room and they join it (if I have limits set in the room would this keep them out?). Thanks

Hey robin, go up to the Menu button and click it, click news and scroll down a bit and you'll see a big article on it. They caught a bunch with 10,000hp moon rovers and such they can change anything. And you'll know if you have one in your room because I guarantee their crs will look really complex and weird for that model.

But at that point, when I see their wierd cars, is it maybe too late already because I have already been in the room, OR, if I leave right away, am I safe?

That presupposes you'll be close enough to view their car, which I think wouldn't be as likely if they're driving 10k HP beasts.

Your experience just doesn't make sense to me. Did you beat them in the race or ask them questions specific to their modding? I'm wondering if there was an SCEA trigger you unknowingly activated.

No one knows, but as far as I can guess being in the same room, constitutes a ban. I've stayed away from open lobby's for that very reason. You won't know who is one, because some do simple mods ie chassis change and engine changes.

Just leave or set room to friends only, my mistake was I didn't realize what it was because I'd never seen it. And they were running Toyota FT-1's so I figured what the hey I have a bit more power without checking member list(should have). So I ended up racing with them. But they had so much downforce that they were taking corners faster than a redbull.

No I got smoked but I did ask them about it before I left the room, they said something along the lines of hex codes and downloading software from a pc they wouldn't tell me much at all. Idk I'm not real good with computers and such so its beyond me

Last question: did you ask in the text chat or were you using a mic? If text chat, I'd guess that was the silent trigger. Just a guess though

Well the West Coast Division was a bit of a mixed night.

There were only 6 of us and we were clearly in two different "Divisions" I have never had to work so hard for last place before. In the end @GranStand Bill and I tied for last:cheers:! I also do not feel like the combos allowed for the most passing opportunities but that may have just been an issue I had.

One thing I will say is that in the last three weeks we have only raced Front Engined Rear wheel drive cars. Lets hope for some variety this week

I am happy with my racing as I raced with very few errors. That was my goal last night so I am happy with that. Now being 4 seconds off the pace in some races was not as much fun. At least I was off the pace to one of the fast Aliens:)

The big thing we need is some help with running the League

West Coast Drivers
"ask now what the league can do for you, but what you can do for the league"
here is what we need!

1-Host and backup host
2-Backup replay uploader

Thanks to @joe_diben for the format of the needs and the wonderful quote!

Yes at the time my mic was dead and i was charging it for the upcoming practice with a few guys, so yes I was using text. That's what I have came to the conclusion after thinking it over deeply. Probaly should read the terms of usage but who reads them when setting up an account right? Its pretty long.

Thanks to all who answered. Also, one more question. What do you mean about checking the member list? Does this show the PP for the cars they are using or something like that? Iow, how would checking the member list give a clue as to them being a modder?, if that's what you meant. Thanks again.

ROFL YOU WOULD DOOO THAT .. OMG I LOVE YOU MANNN.. ok we have to destroy the European drivers I want to keep up no matter what. Im pushing it to the absolute limit on this combo it matches my style

Not my cup of tea as you have seen the other night practicing with leadfoot =/

Next to the chat bubble there is a little person icon, click that's and you can view all the stats for each player. Horsepower, weight, driving aids and all.

When on a online lobby, if you go to the member list and press square 3 times, you'll be able to the the weight, HP and PP of everyone who's on track at the moment. msgt warned me on race 2 of the first combo that I was running 158HP instead of 161HP... even with less HP I still finished 2nd after starting in 9th. :D

EDIT: tree'd by @aliengamer25

Thanks to both of you. Boy, every day I get reminded of how much I still don't know. Amazing how much is here.

I'll gladly help out with the west coast. I've only done a couple races there but the atmosphere of that division fits so much better with the kind of racing I like to do. You guys start at 12 ET right?

We do and would love to have you join us. Are you thinking you will only race in the West coast? if so just make it official by pming @JLBowler

That will only make the pace and fights up front even more fierce.. lol... Well I guess we ARE D1 in a parallel world only 3 hours behind.

Friends only comes to mind. D7/8 practice rooms are almost always friends only...don't think modders can get in then.
