Read the following this morning:

Porsche has done it. The German sports car marque’s latest baby, the 2018 911 GT2 RS, has lapped the punishing Nürburgring-Nordschleife in time of only 6:47.3.

That’s the new record for production cars, and it was achieved with drive only going to the rear wheels. More amazing still is that Porsche didn’t just shave a few milliseconds off the previous record. It absolutely smashed it.

The previous record was the 6:52.01 set by the all-wheel-drive Lamborghini Huracán Performante in 2016. The fastest time for a rear-wheel-drive car was the 7:01.3 set by a Dodge Viper ACR at the start of September.

The GT2 RS's record run took place on September 20 and was by no means a fluke. With Porsche test driver Lars Kern and factory racing driver Nick Tandy taking turns on the track, the car was setting times below 6:50 almost immediately. In the end it was Kern who set the fastest time. His average speed on the 12.8-mile lap was 114.4 mph.

Porsche unveiled its latest GT2 RS in June at the 2017 Goodwood Festival of Speed. With 700 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque generated by its 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged flat-6 engine, the car is the most powerful 911 ever sold, and now it’s the fastest too. It means the two-seater weighing 3,241 pounds can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 2.7 seconds and top out at 211 mph.

Testament to the engineering prowess behind the car, it ran 9.7 seconds faster than Porsche’s own 918 Spyder hypercar which not only has significantly more power but a sophisticated all-wheel-drive system, too. Even Porsche was quite stunned by the result.

“At the start of the development process, we set ourselves a lap time target for the GT2 RS of less than 7:05,” head of GT cars at Porsche, Frank-Steffen Walliser, said after the run. “The credit for beating this target by 17.7 seconds goes to our development engineers, mechanics and drivers, who demonstrated an exceptionally strong team performance.”

Sadly, Porsche is building just 1,000 examples, and they’re all sold out. The price tag, not that it matters much now, is $294,250. Lucky customers awarded a build slot can look forward to deliveries starting in early 2018.

Ok Wankers, this is our last ? Night of testing hold your hats. Drum roll please. Bdrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!

The first race will be at the very fast Historic Spa, one make driving the 1963 Lotus type 25 Climax..... I only picked that historic car because of the name.....everyone likes a Climax. 10 laps of loose and squirly at ridiculously fast speed....bring a big set of nads for this one.

Race two will be in the snow, just to try it out, see what's it's like.
Touring cars of which there are five to pick from. We will go to Bears pit crews home country of Japan to slide around the tricky Sugo track. Expect mayhem, I might turn the ranking system off for this one.
Stop throwing things at me, we gotta try the snow sometime. Held to a 20 lapper, just in case it sucks. I will shut off mandatory pit stops too.

Race three, I was gonna pick the devil track (COTA), again just to hear David call for his saviour "Jeeeesus Chriiist Mon" all race, but since I am soooo religious, we can't have that anymore. Lol.

Instead, we will race really sticky LMP-3s of which there are two to choose from. We did the Daytona road course last week, so we will go to another highly anticipated track, Indy Road course. I will figure out how many laps later.

Hopefully WMD will patch this unpredicable interface so we can start up full bore by the week after. My biggest complaint over all else is the waiting time to get into your tuning page, it should be instant, ain't got time fo dat.
See what happens when I leave him alone!! :D

Back now for 4 days until I leave again for a week, hope to get on for a couple of nights.

Mike and I have only talked briefly about another room, but it is something we will have to start thinking about if people are consistently not being able to get in. That hasn't happened yet but we are just at the beginning of PCars2 and the SNAIL affiliation. At the present we have 24 drivers on the active list, of which 14 pretty much show up every week. We have only had one new driver, Wardez, join recently. Regardless, we will have to have a plan in place soon.

Looks like we are a bunch of woosies.... in 1963 those guys fight it out for 2.5 hours over 32 laps. Also, may I bring to your attention those qually lap times and Jim's fast lap. A 3:54.1 for Graham Hill for pole position !!!! those guys grew hair in places we don't even know we had....

Driving the Group 5 cars the other night reminded me of this video. It was tough controlling the car in the game, so that makes what this guy is doing in real-life even more incredible. Back in 1987 a car that could do 150 mph was considered fast, and 175 was unbelievable. This Ruf (pronounced "Roof") did 211! He did it with no assists, no traction control, etc while wearing a pair of driving slippers. I don't know how he fit in the car while having yarbles the size of bowling-balls.

Welcome to "The Lobanaro Lounge".
Project Cars 2 is now here, and after 27 weeks of racing in PCars1, it's time for the next chapter.
We are a group of like minded clean racers who just want a fun night of good race craft and good banter. We are not that serious and not a very politically correct room, so if you don't have a thick skin and can't handle some good natured ribbing, then this might not be the place for you! At the same time, we will not put up with anyone who disrespects another on track, or one who does not follow good race craft protocol. If you would like to join us, post in this thread and tag both myself, Aero, @aerolite and Mike, @Mike Lobban .

When:
  • Monday nights at 8 pm EDT.

What:

Each week is a clean slate, points will be awarded, but only for bragging rights over the next week.

Each week we will supply two cars, of which you will vote on one for the following week. (report#2)

The night will be at one track, which will not be known until the room opens the night of the race. (Different layouts, time and weather can change).

Every once in a while we will run a different format just to change things up.

We are leaving tuning on, mainly so fuel qty can be set. As the track will not be known, it will promote just setting a base tune, which can be easily retrieved from: http://projectcarssetups.eu/#/bycar
We don't want people to fret over tuning, so just grab a base tune, or not, and forget about it.
You can also get FFB settings here: http://pcars.oscarolim.pt/cars

Format:
  • Three 30 minute races
  • Lobby opens at 8pm est.
  • 8:00 to 8:45 – practice. (Conditions set to Race 1)
  • 5 min warm up – set pit stop strategy
  • Race 1 (8:50) – 30 minutes - Grid start set from overall standings. (see note below)
  • Set next track layout, time and weather – 10 min warm up/break/set PSS
  • Race 2 – 30 minutes – Reverse Grid, rolling start
  • Set next track layout, time and weather – 10 min warm up/break/set PSS
  • Race 3 – 30 minutes – Reverse Grid from race 2, rolling start
Main Settings:
  • Damage – Visual Only
  • Mech Failures – OFF
  • Tire Wear – x2
  • Fuel – Real
  • Penalties - ON

Race #1 Start.
Each week an active drivers current overall standings will be posted. If your weekly average is 5.99 or less you will be in Group A, if it's 6.00 or greater then you will be in group B.
There will be no qualifying, just a 45 minute practice. The grid will be set according to your ranking, with the highest avg # in Group B in pole and so on down the line. Group A will then form up right behind B, with the highest avg # driver next in line and so on down the list.
Once everyone is in position, the pole sitter will call "Green, Green, Green" and all in Group B start racing. Group A will wait for a predetermined amount of time before the leader of A then calls "Green, Green, Green" and A starts racing. As soon as you here your start being called you go.
The rest of the nights races will be reverse grid as usual with no delay.

Mandatory one pit stop. All cars must start with the weeks announced max litres of fuel, or less if desired, (this will change each week). We will be able to tell if anyone has set fuel higher by the extra laps done. Up to you to figure out how much fuel is needed for the rest of the race. Tires should last but there will be some wear, it is up to you if you want to change them or not.

We will start exactly on time, if you can't make it on time please just wait and join for Race 2.

Active/Inactive drivers.
Active drivers have priority to get into the race, up until 8:30 pm on race night.
Any driver who has not raced in the last four events will be put in the Inactive Drivers List and will not get an invite on race night. You will need to let us know, preferably before the evening races starts, if you want to join and we will send you an invite. List is in Report #4.

Disclaimer: As we, (Lobban and Aero), will be picking the tracks, we will only run enough laps to make sure the cars are fun to drive there and that's it. You have it on our honour that we will not look at the track again until you see it on race night.

ok.first...do not make manual pit stops, the temptation to run my pit crew over will be too great.
Second...it took me a bit to find my way here, I would blame it on age...but I see the grand pooba David found his way here before me, so I'm screwed on using that as an excuse. He's even older than me!.
Third... I hope they fix the menu screen, I have a hell of a time seeing where my cursor is...and that damn back button doubling as an exit button made me miss the group five race!...aaarrrrrrggggggg!

Those can am car drivers used to use wheel barrows to hold their balls.

I'm sure everyone has heard me say abs and traction control is for pussies.
The young fella has the gist of it.

The Porsche 956 did it in 6:11.13 in 1984

Good thing for you that you don't post in SNAIL, you would have been fish slapped right out of your province. Lol
.? I don't get it. It popped up on google. Stephan Beloff put in a jaw dropping 6:11 at nordshlief in the 956. There is a video.
Oh....it was in 1983, not 84... why would I be fish slapped.?

I knew you wouldn't understand, lol.
You get fish slapped for double posting, let alone four in a row! It's a GTPlanet posting etiquette thing.
Someone would usually post a clip of a person getting fish slapped after the multiple posts.

I see GTPlanet just posted the story on the Porsche.

Ooohhh....I never knew the etiquette thingy, didn't even think about multiple posts in a row, I was just catching up, it took me so long to find my way here....it looks different,,,,..like being in a strange new forest.
I still haven't found S.R.M. Yet

If you look up at the top of the page, under the main GTPlanet bar, you'll see the tabs with PCARS2 Online Racing & Leagues at the end. Click on that and it takes you to the page where we and SRM are. Clearly your pit crew are not helping once again!

It's not an etiquette thingy, it's a Bitter old Bastard thingy. Just like most authoritarians, BoBs get pissy when you have more interesting things to say than they do.

Maybe Bear just doesn't give a dump? BoB that he is. I know I don't, but that is the epitome of what a BoB is all aboot.

What do you guys think about changing the car at Historic Spaaaaaaa, to something faster, like a modern FA ? Colts is right, as much as I hate to admit it, old Spaaaa doesn't lend itself to exciting or close racing. This is the problem with long tracks, as much as I like them, one mistake and your race is basically driving laps by yourself.

If anything keep it classic. Ferrari 330 P4 would be good.
I took the Lotus 98T around last night, not completely classic, but I vote for it or the Lotus 78 over a modern Formula.

Questions about the new game.... (To be honest I'm on the verge of packing it up and consider my money wasted......After three froze ups, a delete and re-install the total game, another froze up after the new installation, game running at the speed of a Winows 95 computer when moving from one game mode to another and certain cars that sound worse than Gran Turismo 6 e.g: Aston Martin DB11, Porsche 918, and a few more, and stupid tuning/setup menus where you have no clue if you saved a setup for the car or track or saved it at all - that's my rant for the day - now see my questions below)

1. Where on earth do you find the two basic/default setups they are talking about?.... and how do I load them.
2. I was doing a carreer race today in the GT4 Porsche on Silverstone after I played there last night on free practice and got a fairly decent lap time that would be competitive with AI at 80%. I saved the set-up last night. Today when I started it loaded a setup that came from COTA - the freeking Porsche has never been on COTA. The car is handling miserable and I could not complete a lap in a half-hour without spinning out. Eventually I made a few laps, but over 3 seconds off my pace yesterday (in both cases I had all driving aids turned off). It seems my setup changes has no effect on the car and then I realized that even though I change the fuel level, it doesn't change at all after I pressed Save. Is there a place where we can read in detail how the setup menus and savings work. If one know what you supposed to do, only then can you make progress......
3. When in the tuning main screen there is a yellow indicator on the right that there is a shared tune available..... where do you go to find the shared tune?

I got some wheel setups from @Xradkins last night and it seems to be a bit better, but there still is a bit of a dead zone in the steering wheel that makes directional changes tricky.

You remember the old touring cars in PC1 we did on Snetterton (BMW, Sierra, Mercedes), where I could not break through the 2 min mark because I had rain tires on the BMW - well, I'm still faster with rain tires in PC1 than what I could manage with slicks in PC2 - even though it felt like I'm doing decent times - that means I'm almost 5 seconds per lap slower in the same car from PC1 to PC2.

I guess it's going to be a while before you will get a positive review out of me with all of this stuff going on .

I feel your pain. Besides the AI that seem to be on steroids my biggest obstacle and frustration is with getting "Edit Tune" to stick for even choosing appropriate tyres and fuel for race weather conditions which was previously an easy thing to do in Pcars1.
It's so frustrating right now I no longer have the desire to race in Career Mode or even online lobby until the issue is resolved.
And this coming from someone who was so looking forward to Pcars 2.

Hmm... Maybe I'll just play the old version until some fixes get implemented. I've had a lot of time over the past week to read about all the issues. The PS4 version of the game is just full of bugs. It's kind of a shame, because it's going to crush their overall sales. I'll be patient, and look forward to how good it will be when all the issues are solved. But many others are just going to move on to GTSport - which we know won't have bugs like this.

It's a shame you guys are having such troubles with the new game. Although I havne't put in a ton of time into it thus far. I don't seem to be seeing the level of problems on the PC side of things as you fellas. I've done minimal tuning and haven't had a problem getting it to save. As far as the two "setups", those are FFB I believe and I have yet to dealve into that since I'm not yet using my wheel. Now... I'm kinda thinking the whole shared tune thing might be limited to folks who are in a lobby with you, not necessarilly a huge library of tunes by everybody and their mother. That's just a guess though, as I have yet to try that out.

The Ruf video is a real treat. Besides the lack of all the aids you have to remember the tires back then are basically **** compared to now. That car was probably running 17” wheels too.

Great little video to watch him work the wheel etc especially in traffic like that.

Oh yeah!...the Ferrari 330.!!! I like the open wheel stuff but one touch of the wheels and awayyyy we go. My vote is for the p330, leave the open wheel for when we are more settled in on the physics.

Some one said they out sourced the PS4 programming. I bet they are now regretting that decision. Hopefully they get that sorted out real fast...before asseto comes out with a better set up for rooms and leagues or they will lose most of the PS4 crowd.

Yes you are correct Lessen, you can only share your tune when the other person is in the room with you.

@Rednose58 There is a load setup to the left of the save button, I was having problems loading a shared tune earlier. Once they share it with you you can open the share tab, save the tune to a new name. Then you go to the load tab to the left of the save tab and you can load the setup. I'll be online tomorrow and can try and help you with this issue. As for the Freezing, I'm not sure. I have had a couple times where when the race sarted I was stuck in the pits and couldn't drive but it only happened the first day and hasn't since.

@yogi bear, still double posting I see...Haha

Yeah, excuse me, I don't know what I'm doing. But thanks for sharing the gifs, I like the one with the bear slapping the go pro!

What a coincidence the PS4 version is having issues just before Gran Turismo sport comes out I'm sure it's just a coincidence
