Racing around the stadium is a mistake too. Mexico City and the new Seoul ePrix circuit have hit the nail on the head - put the track through the stadium. Not only does that give you thousands of already built seats to put people in, but the atmosphere of a stadium is so much better than a straight grandstand anywhere. The architecture is designed to trap and reverberate noise around stadiums, which means car engines will sound spectacular in there, and it's a perfect place for celebrations at the end. Seriously, despite being the worst section of the track itself, the stadium in Mexico City is about the only thing keeping the circuit on the calendar. Whoever decided to put the Podium in the Stadium rather than in the pitlane deserves a massive bonus because it's perfect. This Miami track needs to go through the Hard Rock Stadium or it's going to be Caesars Palace/Dallas again - appear and disappear without any fanfare apart from being terrible.

There is no possible way to put the track through the stadium. The front straight runs across the club section lounges on the side of the stadium. This lounge is the envy of the NFL with its unprecedented and enrapturing view of the parking lot.
 
Bumper cam view of the new and improved Zandvoort. Probably going to be extremely processional, but it looks very fun to drive, and that new final corner looks to be a real test of both driver and machine. Hopefully it actually happens

 
Regarding stuff like Paul Ricard, while I know track layouts are often a result of investment by the teams in testing/data, safety etc. I've always wanted to see tracks shift their layouts every season. So many modern tracks have additional track options present...why not throw them in every now and then?

Could be an amusing way to break up some monotony, particularly if drivers have been to a certain track for 10-15 years.
 
For what it is worth as it is still a (bad?) rumour: WADA anti doping forbids Russia to participate and organize big sport events. Does this have any impact on the 2020 GP in Sochi??
 
It most likely wont have an impact on the Russian GP because of various exemptions for events which are already contracted to take place there
 
So many races now, so after 12 solid years i have made the decision to quit watching practice sessions for the good of my family life. Feel like i was neglecting spending time with them, if anything happens then theres videos on Twitter anyway.
 
I generally just watch maybe 30-40 minutes of the first practice session to see if they leak any "big news" (if I missed it on the interwebs). I definitely get very little out of watching the full practice sessions. Normally though the first session or two they discuss any big news of the day, like injuries, driver illness, silly-season rumours, teams which supposedly brought big upgrades for the weekend, etc.
 
Same I watch all the sessions though and have them on in the background so it's like listening to sports radio and getting all the up to date news
 
I sometimes put practice on in the background when I am doing something else entirely, but I never actively watch it.

It's a bit like watching paint dry, if you ask me.

I have mistakenly started practice rather then quali on my DVR before, and gotten maybe 5 mins in before I realized what I've done.

"Why is this so boring, and why haven't all the cars gone out yet?" :lol:
 
I've never really been bothered to watch practice. Practice is one of those sessions where it's definitely better to be trackside than watching on TV.
 
I’m in the same boat, I more “listen” to the practice sessions while I’m doing something else rather than actually watch them. If something exciting happens, I’ll glance over at a replay, but that’s about it.

What would people prefer?

- leave it as it is, the background chatter is nice while doing the dishes.

- cancel one or more of the practice sessions...the racing tends to be better when the teams have less prep. Would also cut down on costs maybe?

- replace one or more of the practice sessions with some other type of format. A race of some sort, additional qualifying, a burnout contest, whatever you can think of.

I’ve said it in other threads before, but my preference would be to leave Friday as is, have quali on Saturday morning (award full points to top 10 qualifiers), a Sprint Race Saturday afternoon (grid order is the finishing order of the previous GP, with the top 10 reversed. Half/reduced amount of points awarded), a 1 lap shootout for final grid order for top 10 qualifiers on Sunday morning, then the regular GP Sunday afternoon (points awarded as they are now).

I read somewhere that they'll be finished with the track in February and that there will be an open day to drive on the new track with your car.

I need to find out if we can race on it with the mopeds.

I see only one overtaking spot, no chance of following another car in the rest of it.

RedBull marketing team was in the Netherlands to make a new promo movie. Also the typical Dutch mills, tulips, wooden shoes will appear in this movie. And don't forget the cyclists as you can see in this video:

PS Obviously it is not Max Verstappen and Alexander Albon in the cars. Patrick Friesacher and Jüri Vips were the lucky ones.

They missed out people who are too tall, cheese, bicycle-wheelbarrow child transporters, ganja, gay policeman and a giant Jeff Bridges. What were they thinking?

Maybe today when they will be filming at Zandvoort Casino and the beaches. So if you are at the coastal area in NL you can be part of this unique experience yourself.
 
The Australian GP continues to be under review in view of the risk of wildfires which is re-escalating despite a period of rain in some parts. Now the Chinese GP is also under review due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Of course, with 12-ish weeks until the Chinese GP a lot could change but the loss of either China or Australia from this year's calendar would be a real shame, although they do have more important things to worry about.

Nah, it wouldn't. I made a prediction that this year would only have 21 races held in a friends F1 2020 predictions competition :lol:

Admittedly I was expecting something like a Spain or a Mexico running out of money to host the race, or tensions in somewhere like Russia to kick off and cause a race to be missed like Bahrain 2011, rather than bushfires or a pandemic, but OK.

I wouldn't argue about the number of races, but there are others that I'd rather see drop from the calendar :D
