Would it make sense to have, say, a 300hp version and also offer a 400hp "S30" "ZG" type variant? Offer a NISMO above those two?

Looks like we'll be seeing it in Formula Drift in the not too distant future...

Bought some Nissan stock this morning anticipating a warm reception. So far I'm inclined to believe that individual car reveals don't really influence stock price all that much but I enjoy testing the theory.

If I ever bought stocks I would find it so funny to go to my broker and say "I would like one stock, sir. Just the one. I'd like to see what happens."

Was a big rectangle really the best they could come up with for the grill? :odd:

As for the rest of the car, it looks alright, perhaps a color besides bright yellow will do it some favors.

Nissan head of design Alfonso Albaisa is focused on how it evokes prior iterations of the Z. "We don't use the word retro, it's more of an homage," said Albaisa.

The new car's detailing is somewhat of a grab bag of the best of past Z-cars, with 240Z-inspired headlights, 300ZX-esque taillights, and a few other historical touches. The only real nod to the past inside, though, is the three-gauge binnacle atop the dash

Under the long hood is a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6, which GT-R guru and chief product specialist Hiroshi Tamura says is a modified version of the VR30DDTT unit available in both 300- and 400-hp states of tune in the Infiniti Q50 and Q60.

A six-speed manual is standard, and an automatic will be optional, likely the seven-speed torque-converter unit found in the Infinitis.

It'll likely share suspension and brake components with the Infiniti Red Sport performance models. "The Z must have a strong connection between human and machine, like a dance partner," Tamura said, noting how the emotional aspects—driving feel, sound, and styling—are more important than objective performance here

The Proto Z is 4.7 inches longer than the current car, likely due to longer overhangs. It's also marginally taller and wider. It rides on 19-inch wheels, while the current model has 20s. Chief engineer Hiroshi Tamura said the 19s give the car enough tire for a reasonable ride quality.

Honestly, the new Z is 90% design-wise great!! The other 10% goes to that grille... They could have done better... Also, I was expecting Nissan's new logo, not the current with a new font...

Still, nice job!! :D

My initial reaction was errrhh thats a grille, but the more I look at it, the more I don't mind it.
If anything my least favourite aspect is the giant Nissan badge on the back. I think a smaller Z or even smaller Nissan would look far less intrusive on the rear design.
Also the downwards slope of the top edge of the tail lights, I'm not sure I like that choice all that much.

Really wish they'd unveil these prototypes in a more sensible colour, you know, not highlighter yellow.

The old 240Z also had a rectangular cut out for a grill...but like every car with a retro design, the bumpers dropping half a foot closer to the ground means they look awkward when making it legal today.

That badge is a bit odd, but I kinda figured the three piece logo was for ads and media.

I think it looks great... except the front... which appears to have been designed by the interns’ intern.

Wow, that is very S30-esque this time, much more than I expected. I really like it; best-looking Z since the Z31, I'd say. 👍 👍

Naturally it is a relief to see one more car still launched with a (standard) manual transmission. Japan may be the last refuge for manuals. If only it didn't have all the baggage that comes with a new car today; it's hard to be enthused even for a car like this. :ouch:

There's still a lot of 370z in the interior, suggesting the hardpoints are the same. A very heavy refresh of the current Z platform rather than a clean sheet design. I think this was expected though. Glad we're getting a new car.

Wow even the 350z had roughly the same door handles and perimeter vents.
I noticed the door vents too. At first I thought it was just another hommage like the rest of the car, but based on those pictures, they definitely look like they have the same hard points which is unfortunate

From that first teaser of the manual gearbox I had suspicions - what are the chances that those two buttons (rev match and whatever the other one is) would be in exactly the same place again. I think the reality is that this is probably Nissan doing the best they can with an existing platform and not a lot of money. That being said, it's a valiant effort to distinguish itself and it seems to have been received pretty well all around.

I'd like to see some more vents or something break up the area under the headlamps. I think it looks fine, would like to see it in person.

Same energy.

Still, it is a dramatic improvement; and if nothing else will give 370z owners a cheap and easy upgrade path; since I'm sure a lot of that stuff can me made to fit if it doesn't bolt right in. Think the fake aluminum stuff is kinda cheesy for the door handles and vents? Wander on down to your local Nissan dealer and order a new blacked out trim piece straight from them.

It's also a much, much better looking car than the Supra; and I'm assuming will be quite a bit cheaper as well.
