Hello, ladies and gentlemen.
Welcome to the 'Corner and Straight Names for PD-Created Circuits' thread. Here, you will get to share your ideas for what different parts of Gran Turismo original circuits that you've been driving around could be called.

This thread will apply to any circuit that PD have made up. Circuits that are based on real circuits like the Côte d'Azur track however, will not be listed here for obvious reasons.

Updates will be applied to the OP at some point on every Saturday.

The list of circuits named here so far are:

Apricot Hill
Autumn Ring
Cape Ring
Circuito di Roma
Deep Forest Raceway
Eiger Nordwand Short
Eiger Nordwand K Trail
Eiger Nordwand W Trail
Grand Valley Speedway
GT Arena
High Speed Ring
Kart Space II
Matterhorn Dristelen
Matterhorn Rotenboden
Matterhorn Riffelsee
Matterhorn Short Track
Special Stage Route 5
Special Stage Route 7
Tokyo R246
Trial Mountain

Suggestions should be made in this format:

Circuit:
Layout (please specify if reverse):
Turn/strait number(s):
Name proposal:
Reason/story:

Example/first one:

Circuit: Grand Valley Speedway
Layout: Full
Turn/strait: turn 4
Proposal: Commitment
Reason/story: this is one of the few corners in the game which requires bravery. You have to commit to your line and follow through with it.

I did a few track guides a while ago - https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/track-guide-trial-mountain-circuit.247445/
That was one with a "Justice" theme for Trial Mountain.

Going to need to put up basic maps and numbered corners at first I guess.

Good luck with this, Maybe landmarks could be slotted into this too. I've always named the tree on the top of the cliff over the tunnel at Grand Valley Speedway "The Sentinal" - but who doesn't name a specific tree every once in a while.

The Bridge is obviously the Blue Coat Hanger. Which Leads into a tunnel and a flat righthanded sweeper.

Circuit: Grand Valley Speedway
Layout: Full
Corner #: ???
Proposal: Colonnades
Reason/story: As simple as the series of columns that blur past on your left. Some say that there are 13 columns - Other say there is only 12...

best of fortune with this. Looking forward to seeing how people all over the world add depth to our GT tracks.

Circuit: Apricot Hill
Turn: 12&13
Proposal: Cheater's Chicane

You all know why...

I actually love this idea! I'll try another one

Circuit: Matterhorn
Layout: Short (Although it appears in any layout)
Turn: 3
Proposal: "Mountain View", as the sight there must be awesome. I'd rather call it something related with "death", as in Dristelen and Riffelsee the bump before this turn is a relentless trap.

Edit: Can we also include other old GT tracks like Midfield Raceway, El Capitan, Driving Park, etc?

Circuit: Rome (normal)
Layout: normal
Corner #: 5 (chicane of walls)
Proposal: Chicane mortis
Reason/story: Because its so damn dangerous, you usually either go too slow or hit the wall, and if you go side by side with other car, its an almost guaranteed crash. The "chicane mortis" name is latin for "chicane of death". I put it in latin since its located in the ancient part of Rome.

Proposal: Chicane mortis

 I love that corner. I get my car unsettled on entry, so that I can run slightly wide of the first wall and nail the exit. :) works pretty well.

This idea is becoming so addictive for me! Just one more...

Track: Special Stage Route 7
Layout: Full
Corner: ??? (I think it's #2, just before the slow hairpin)
Proposal: Kamikaze Exit
Reason: I don't know anyone who hasn't crashed against that turn while drifting or just going too fast with their Bugatti/X2014/Any Car

Circuit: Apricot Hill
Turns: 1 to...6 maybe?
Proposal: Hugenholtz's Mirror
Reason: It looks like Suzuka in a mirror, and, for those who don't know that, Hans Hugenholtz was the designer of Suzuka (and other good tracks).

Circuit: Matterhorn Riffelise
Layout (please specify if reverse): Forward
Corner Number: 2
Corner Name Proposal: The Widowmaker
Reason/story: You will ramp straight off the road on entry.

I am considering that circuit for ITCC, but that corner is too absurd.

Turn 5 at Grand Valley Speedway (the one before the hairpin), I call it "Oh 🤬". It's often said by drivers just before they crash into the wall for getting it wrong on the entry.

I'll also say the chicane at Apricot Hill is "The Happy chicane". If you are in an online race with penalties on and cut just a bit too much, your speed to the next corner is killed.

Both of these have already been mentioned, but yes.

It seems I missed the proper way to post these..

Circuit: Grand Valley Speedway
Layout: Forward
Corner Number: 5 (The one just before the hairpin)
Corner Name Proposal: Oh 🤬
Reason/story: 2 words that are often said by drivers who get it wrong on entry just before crashing.

Circuit: Apricot Hill Raceway
Layout: Both, if that's OK
Corner Number: 11 & 11a (3 and 3a for reverse)
Corner Name Proposal: The Happy Chicane
Reason/story: If cut just a bit too much, a penalty could incur and speed all the way to the next corner is killed.

Circuit: Grand Valley Speedway
Layout: Full
Corner Number: #2
Corner Name Proposal: Tamburello
Reason/Story: In the FGT/Lotus 97T, it is a high speed left-hander which has a similar flow/angle to it, modeled very much like it. It should be easy to go flat out through here, but if something goes wrong, or you go off the curb, you will meet your downfall...

Turn 2 at Grand Valley Speedway is technically the first right hairpin. Turn 1 can be thought of as a long kink.

This map should clear up any confusion.

Right... so I've gotten mixed up with Commitment :boggled: Let's name the final corner Tamburello.

Circuit: Grand Valley Speedway
Corner Number: #17
Corner Name Proposal: Tamburello
Reason/Story: Like the original flat-out Tamburello corner at Imola, it is very fast and dangerous. If you don't have the perfect line, you will crash into the wall, probably resulting in a fatal crash in real life. (Again, like Tamburello) I can't tell you how many times my Formula Gran Turismo hotlaps have been ruined by this corner. I haven't tried it with the Lotus 97T, but since the Lotus has much more mechanical grip it should be much safer and easier. Grand Valley Speedway itself has very much in common with Imola, as it is a very fast and flowing circuit. The online F1 World Championship in my opinion should replicate the San Marino Grand Prix with this track in the future.

Just the other day I came up with names for all the corners on original and street circuits, plus some straights. I could post them here but it would be a pretty big post.

Circuit:Eiger Nordwand
Layout: K Trail
Corner Number:18? (right after long downhill straight)
Corner Name Proposal: Rallyist Ravine
Reason/Story: After driving that track numerous times in GT5 & GT6, I have finally mastered a method of taking that corner at reasonable speed without eating the wall everytime. If that barrier hadd not been there, there would be so many cars in that ravie, that it would probablyy end up being higher than the actual corner.

Trialmountain.jpg

Circuit: Trial Mountain
Layout (please specify if reverse): Forward
Corner Number:10,11,12,13
Corner Name Proposal:Crikey Chicane and Cripes Corner
Reason/story: Crikey Chicane because if your car is not setup properly its a real "crikey" moment braking to get round 12 without binning it. And then its down the hill to Cripes because that corner rushes up at you and its very easy to outbreak yourself and i`ve exclaimed "cripes" many times under braking to that one.

Circuit: GT Arena
Layout: A
Corner #9 (The last one)
Proposal: Corner of Victory
Reason: It's the last turn before you celebrate your 1st place with thousands of fans looking at you. I'd recommend naming all tge corners of this track with GT themed names, like "Kaz".

Circuit: Trial Mountain
Layout (please specify if reverse): Forward
Corner Number: 14
Corner Name Proposal: Rollover
Reason/story: Used mostly for doing the "Rollover" trophy accidentally in GT5.

Circuit: Eiger Nordwand
Layout: K Trail
Corner Number: 4/5/6
Proposal: "Leo's Lurch"
Reason/Story: I can post a photo montage later... :P
