After a brilliant Spanish Grand Prix, we now go to the glitz and glamour of Monaco. This has the potential to be a very interesting race given what happened in Spain. Max Verstappen will want to continue his excellent start at his new team, the purple ultra soft tyre will debut here at Monaco and is the favoured choice. Red Bull should be running their upgraded engine but may not have enough to go to both drivers and as this is not a power circuit, they could really take it to Mercedes. After last years cock up by Mercedes and the Spanish crash, Lewis Hamilton will be looking to make amends and claim only his second Monaco race win. Nico Rosberg however will be looking for his fourth consecutive Monaco victory.

If there is an anything to hate about Monaco(other than the fact its nothing but a slow track) its this...the whole idea of celebrities packing the paddocks is a HUGE distraction of the race.

Anyhow the race should be interesting with the introduction of ultra softs..should be also interesting to see if Mad Max can live up to the label of being F1's Marquez...

Anyhow barring issues..my predicted finishing order:

Rosberg
Max
Kimi

If anyone's interested here are the classic races Sky Sports are broadcasting this week;

Tuesday - Monaco 2008
Wednesday - Spain 2011
Friday - Monaco 2011
Sunday - Monaco 1983

How long is an ultra-soft tyre going to last?

Long enough for a qualifying run or three. With grid position everything at Monte Carlo, they'll all be relying on super softs and softs for a majority of the race distance.

Also, if the current weather forecast is anything to go by, they'll be on wets anyway.

Think I heard that the new tires were going to be known as qualifier tires as they basically last and out lap, the main lap and by the in lap they are pretty much gone.

Red bull have the new Renault power unit for the race but they only have one.
So they have quite the issue on their hands.
Give it to Daniel or give it to Max.

While the engine will be .5seconds faster around monaco the more important question is what is the reliability of this new engine?
The current engines are reliable this new one may blow up half way through the race

So it is a gamble either way.

Give the new engine to Driver X where it can work in his favour or it might just blow up and he is out of the race
Max the flavour of the month or Dan who is higher in the points.

Nope. The tyres are all a little harder this year, the Ultra are not much softer than the SS of last year. They'll do a pretty long stint, that is why people have chosen so many.

I think it's clear that Ricciardo will get it. Longer serving, number 1 driver. Verstappen crashed out last season and is only into his 2nd race for the Red Bull team so I don't think there's any doubt Ricciardo will get it.

Similarly I think Magnussen will get the single upgraded unit for Renault over Palmer. If Palmer gets it then somethings wrong with it.

In all my time watching Formula 1 (only since late 2012), I don't believe I've ever caught a wet Monaco Grand Prix :(. Maybe partially wet practice or qualifying, but can't recall watching a live wet race here. Certainly have watched some wet vintage ones though.

I especially like the concept because it will serve the dual purpose of making the racing more involved and interesting, as well as putting a huge damper on the day for all rich attendee's! I can almost picture it now... all the complaining and moaning over getting wet.

Hamilton and Rosberg first corner is going to be interesting...

Doubt what happened in Spain will make a difference to their usual approach, to be honest. Neither seemed that riled up about it which, although some may say they've been reigned in by the team, it's not like Hamilton to keep his real opinions to himself; regardless of what the team says. So I really don't think there's any animosity over the incident between the two. Seems as if they both understand a bizarre combination of circumstances caused the accident, more than anything else.

Which, personally, I'm grateful for. Some may feel that a personal grudge match between two drivers adds to the spectacle, but I detest that nonsense myself.

However, with overtaking at Monaco typically a premium, there could be fireworks going into turn one in order to get track position early doors, which is always critical in Monaco. Unlike, say... Spain, where there are multiple opportunities to get by over the course of the race.

In any case, we could be in for a great race if there is a bit of rain on race day. Rainy Monaco is best Monaco.

They just head back inside the yachts/hotels/casinos, they're there to be seen at the events, not the race :D

I kinda want merc to be retired again.
The spanish GP was an exciting race since it was not just the typical 1-2 benz finish

Nothing to do with Benz ;)

It will be interesting to see if Rosberg can keep his streak going and with the posibility rain then anything can happen.

This.

So far Thursday and Saturday look dry (remember they like to open the shops again on Friday, practice is on Thursday), Sunday forecast is 60% chance of rain with scattered thunderstorms. Monte Carlo basically has its own mini weather system so if there's water in the air I think some of it will definitely fall, even if only for a few mins.
