According to thier web site, 4 extra cars are to debut in SuperGT 2006, they are
Maserati MC12
Lexus SC 430
Ford GT
Mooncraft 'Shiden' - Dont know much about it.
The first 3 are going to be in GT500, whilist the Mooncraft is in the GT300.
This is good news, as the NSX, supra and 350Z and others will be put to the test against the worlds Super cars.
All 3 new cars will have roughly 500hp.

I don't get why Mazda doesn't have a factory supported teams like 3 rotor RX-8's. Apparently the GT-300 RE-Amemiya Asparadrink RX-7 was supposed to be factory backed by mazda this year and be able to compete in the GT-500 class, but Mazda pulled out at the last second. Leaving the team with the GT-300 engines and GT-500 spec aero. I dunno if that is true or not but from the looks of the car, I think its true if you compare the RX-7 to the other GT-300 cars.

The MC12 should be interesting. It's funny that the road versions of the MC12 and Ford GT have more than the power limit of the GT500 class, whereas all the other competitors are limited to the 286bhp in road trim (even though everyone knows they're not so closely restricted).

I was just about to check up on this myself. SuperGT isn't going to be the only race series to ge the Ford GT. Take a look at what is being featured over at Speed World Challenge.

Well Mazda is semi backing the GT class RX-8's in grand am. They have 3 rotors. I believe they build the car and they sell them to privateers. I've seen pics of the car, and man they are sweet.

finally the ford gt is no longer a bad a** street car. it is going to be one to watch when it hits the track.

To be fair, though, Ford is not backing the Ford GT racing programs and is actually ACTIVELY DISCOURAGING private owners from racing their GT's out of worry that the GT failing in motorsport will tarnish the GT40's name.

Thank goodness that Sammy Hagar has money and a love for racing, eh?

That Ford GT racecar looks beautiful. 👍

Any pictures of the cars of the speed world challenge, Solid Lifters?

I,m cheering for the DB9, i have a feeling it will win the Speed GT. And I also reckon the DB9 will be the best sounding car out of the lot folks.

Please keep in mind, folks, that the list posted by Solid Lifters is NOT an entry list. It is a list of the cars in Speed World Challenge GT that owners have submitted for review so that the SCCA can establish a VTS (Vehicle Technical Specifications) sheet.

The 2006 VTS's have not yet been released, but keep in mind that parity is a goal of the SCCA - something that has led to Viper Competition Coupes running a spec sealed engine with factory exhaust manifolds last year.

In 2006, it'd be wise to expect traditional Viper/Vette/911 domination. There is no team in America willing to spend the money to modify a street DB9 to the level necessary to compete with established players like Leighton Reese, Tommy Archer, and Wolf Henzler/Robin Liddell.

And no, a factory Aston Martin DB9 GT race car is not SWC legal. For SWC GT, you have to think more in terms of a Ferrari Challenge Stradale or Porsche 911GT3 Cup car than a full tilt 360GTC or 911GT3RSR.

Pity the American media who fail to show this kind of racing on TV, speaking as an American. I'll provide a link:

http://supergt.net/supergt/promo/05gt_pmovieen.htm (click on the one for your language as well as bandwidth)

See these cars? I think with a little more worldwide competition, this will likely be the hottest shizzle in Japan in years. I'm actually interested about the Mooncraft "Shiden." If you visit the Super GT website (http://supergt.net (JPN) or http://supergt.net/en (ENG)) and watch the Promotional video on Super GT, you will note the history of the series before the SGT namesake. Notice the one GTP race car in its history. I believe that was a Porsche 962C raced by Team Taisan. So if the Mooncraft Shiden races in SGT, it'll probably be the second time I can recall a GTP-style car in the series. I mean, Super GT seems like it wants to go all-out to try to get international competition. The next step for them would be to race outside of Asia. You know, challenge America, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, maybe Australia, or even (Johnny, are you reading?) Brazil. It would be real weird to see the SC430/Soarer replace the Supra. I mean, the Soarer is a lovely automobile, but it's quite expensive. It costs about $64,500. To say this is the Supra replacement is pretty big.

Anyhow, this year should be a good one. I'll have to read more about the Mooncraft "Shiden." That would really add some diversity to the car lineup. It was the (then) JGTC which introduced me to Vemac. It would be interesting for Super GT to introduce me to Mooncraft. The Mooncraft's going to be in GT300? That's weird considering this car would probably kick GT500 ass.

I have to amend my earlier statement as a pair of Aston Martin DBRS9's have been announced as Speed World Challenge competitors for the 2006 season.
The DBRS9 is a fair step from a DBR9 isn't it? I have an article here about Stephane Ratel's new GT3 series (I hope this series finds it's way to Australia). Christophe Bouchut tested several cars for the GT3 series including a DBRS9, a Speedvision Challenge Viper, a Konig Porsche 997, a Maserati Trofeo, a Lamborghini Gallardo, a Ascari KZR1 (with British numberplates), a Nissan 350Z and a Lotus Exige. They had a Corvette there but it had throttle problems before it could get a run. It sounds like these DBRS9's would be cheaper to run than a modified DB9 or a DBR9.
That is a mouth watering line up for the Speed GT. We are in desperate need of a properly structured and run GT series here. Stephane Ratel played with the idea of bringing the GT series to Bathurst or Phillip Island for a round but I wouold love to get the GT3 cars or a Speed GT type series here.

That's not an entry list of cars. It's a list of cars that could race, or be used by racing teams and drivers, if they've gone through the homologating process.

Oh man! You are so right. Our GT series is the worst thing ever. How many cars actully enter each round? Seems about 10-15 cars.

GTPlanet, here's an update. Take a look at this [Japanese] website below. It features info on the Mooncraft "Shiden" for GT500 entry into Super GT. I think you might like this one:

http://www.vernotokai.com/motorsports/news/20060120183753.html

This Mooncraft deal is the hottest thing for me in looking at this bit of news. How do you like this Mooncraft?

Obviously, the FCC doesn't:lol: seriously though, thats looks like a DP/GTP/GT all rolled into one strange yet exotic piece. its cool so I like it.👍

More Mooncraft, you ask? Here!
(All or most in Japanese)

http://www.so-net.ne.jp/yuratakuya/rakugaki/2006/mobile/mobile.html

Can you imagine this thing going up against SC430s, Fairlady Zs/350Zs, and the like? For the first link, go to "Our Products," and you'll see a nice collection of automobiles from their past and present. So take a good look at these.

By the way (another message board) complimented the Mooncraft Shiden with a thread called "Ever Wonder What a DP Could Look Like?" This is a very interesting car. Should make a lot of noise come March when the first race of 2006 gets underway at Suzuka.

The pixelated part of that car made me feel like I was looking at something naughty.
