Instead of making 2 seperate threads I figured that I would kill 2 birds with 1 stone so here goes nothing....

I downloaded objectdock quite some time ago for my laptop and all of the sudden, when I start up my computer it takes like 5 minutes to open the dock? I dont know why. I deleted some of the objects and made the dock smaller but got nothing?

Question 2: I have a sony mp3 player that holds like 250mb of songs. Prior to yesterday, it had about 110 songs on it. I decided to delete them all and start over but when I got to 45 it told me it was full? WTF happend? Granted I know all of the new songs are not the exact size of the old ones but isnt that kinda a lot?

What was the average size of the songs you deleted? What's the average size of the songs now?

Go to Tools > Folder Options > View and enable 'Show hidden files and folders.'

My suspicion is that when you "deleted" the songs, it was not removed from your MP3 player. Instead, the songs were probably moved to a hidden 'Trash' folder.

No, it looks like I got em' all. Maybe it has something to do with the quality of the new songs or something?

Yeah these songs must be of higher quality (or at least larger file sizes than the ones you deleted).

40-60 songs sounds about right for a 256MB player.

So I guess me getting 108 songs on there before was a freak accident then. Any input about getting the dock to start faster?

You mentioned that you were using a Sony MP3 player. Were the original 108 songs in ATRAC3plus format (48kbps or 64kbps)? Are the 45 songs you are putting in 128kbps MP3s? If so, then it would make sense since the ATRAC3plus songs are significantly smaller than the MP3s.

I suggested this to another member a few months ago but it didn't seem to solve his problem. However, it might be worth a try in your case.

What format and quality were the songs? I think that WMA songs are smaller than MP3 songs at the cost of sound quality and it also depends on the bit rate, which results in bigger/smaller file size and better/worse quality sound - 128kbps, 160kbps, 192kbps, 256kbps, etc.

It also obviously depends on the length of the songs themselves - did you copy a bunch of longer songs onto the player?

KM.

Indeed they were atrac3plus or whatever so that solves that. I'm looking into the dock thing now....

Forward in time like 5 minutes.....and clearing that folder had no effects on startup time. Damn.
