It could go on for years and it wouldn't faze me; not because I have a gaming PC now, but because Playstations and Xboxes are closed-box gaming PCs now. It does not surprise me at all that developers are treating them like PCs, especially given the PS4's install base.
They don't really flow in the same vein as PC games, though. Console games are going to be held back by the lowest common denominator - Consoles are potentially squandered by their cross-gen(or even cross console) counterparts when expecting big "next gen" changes. PC games aren't held back by less powerful PC's, as the user just has to dumb down their experience visually if they want to be able to play the game. Unless it was a game that was ported from consoles, that is as that would mean it'll flow like a cross-generational game.

So really, it affects the console generation as a whole, just a bit indirectly.

I liked the trailer but can the game match the trailer? It kind of gives me some Midnight Club vibes and to be honest I don't why they feel the need to create a story around a racing game. I guess some people like that stuff but all I want to do is race. Anyway have to wait see how it turns out
From what has been described, the "story" isn't a linear narrative like you would find in a Need For Speed game, but rather some lore behind the two rival clans so I don't imagine it being that intrusive towards the gameplay experience.

Macau/Zhuhai - Hong Kong bridge/tunnel crossing would've been epic but I take Hong Kong.

They did a epic job back in the days with a close to 100% port of TDU1 on the PSP with all 1000 miles of roads on Oahu included.

I still won't be fazed if console games are held back because of it -- AAA devs did it to themselves, driving expectations on graphics up to the limit and relegating their efforts to a 20-30fps treadmill -- and I still think it's a good idea for now, with 115 million PS4s out and about.

Graphics settings also aren't a magic bullet on PC, of course. Complexity in the core experience is limited by the targeted minimum requirements. Physics calculations, the number of actors, all that. But you can get away with more if you don't default to making a game look like a front-and-center AAA game. The PS4 and XBone are no different in either respect. Neither is the Switch, including its notable "long shot" ports.

Time will tell if TDU:SC could fare better on the Switch than Kylotonn's other Switch ports. I honestly don't expect it to turn out very well based on what I've seen and read with the others.

If that is the case great. I will still wait to see what the actual game looks and plays like.

A map that's only 1/20th of the size of TDU? That's disappointing but if it's of a good quality I won't complain. Forza Horizon 4's map is proof of this so if they do get it right, it will be a lot of fun. Also, Hong Kong isn't exactly known for it's warm and sunny climate so calling it Solar Crown is a bit dumb, but it's hardly a deal-breaker. The two clans is an interesting idea though and there's definitely enough in it to differentiate itself from Forza Horizon. So what, the rich kids vs a gentlemen's club? That's a new one.

YEAH! Maybe they could use MC's checkpoint system???🤐

Whether you're fazed in particular is no issue, its still affecting the console generation as a whole. They definitely did do it to themselves. The thing now is that they have the extra power to focus on other parts instead of just the graphics like you say, but they just can't, because they're being held back now to a certain degree.

It's definitely a good idea for them to make more money, just kind of sucks that a new console generation is here and we're not really going to be taking advantage of it at all for a while.

Never claimed as much. The point was that they aren't held back because of people having trouble hitting the minimum requirements. They are completely different then how things work on console, where as everything is based around the weakest first.

I respect the developer for using their own tech and not jumping on the Unreal bandwagon. I hope there's a single player component tho.

Curious choice. Haven't been there but looking on google there doesn't seem to be that much in the way of interesting roads, it's mainly highways quickly devolving into tight city style streets which if modelled accurately should be packed with vehicles. There aren't any major roads up and around the mountains, just walking passes.

Seems like they have chosen it based on the gambling and culture over actual location.

@ImaRobot -- As a product, Playstation and Xbox now represent closed-box PCs in my view, not very console-like. But I feel you on wishing developers would do more with the PS5 and new Xbox.

I wonder if this is the start of a series re-boot. If so, then there's a fair chance we'll see bigger and better things in the future. However it all hinges of the success of this game.

Hong Kong it is! I had a hunch since TDU2 that this was going to happen. When the second game introduced Ibiza, it was a setting that was already distinct from Oahu with the Mediterranean and desert feel opposed to a rainforest tropic climate. It makes sense to go to an urban location and cover a region in Asia before returning to the west.

Reminds me of how FH3 introduced a proper city location when the past settings weren't so metropolitan with an good collection of high rises.

It'll be interesting to see just exactly what the map will be. Covering just Hong Kong Island isn't properly representing the territory and also not justify some scenes in the CGI trailer like the dockyard of Stonecutters Island and neon lit Mongkok streets that are adjacent to Kowloon. The island's famous cityscape is their CBD and development in the area is relatively more modern than across the straight. But I think the choice makes sense too as it's the only island not connected by a bridge but underwater tunnels, so that leaves room to gloss over blocked roads in-game that lead to the tunnels rather than inspire incentive for players to find a way to cross it a la the bridge to Windsor, Canada in The Crew 1's Detroit.

I've been to HK myself but never discovered more of the Hong Kong Island other than visit The Peak, Causeway Bay, and Stanley Market. But I trust that it'll be a great location as its mountainous geography makes for tight mountain passes and non-urban feel in the southern half.

The difference being is that one is held back because of the weakest, and one isn't. Something that looks to be not changing for some time. Not the end of the world for me though, as that just allows me to hold back my interest in the console. Maybe the price point will look much more appealing by the time I get around to it too.

Seems like houses got replaced by upgradeable hotel room for Solar Crown based on the official website, that is quite dissapointing.

Well it's not Japan, but it's great to see a driving game set in the far east for once. My only concern is, the roads will be far too narrow and gridlocked for the kind of high speed arcade racer this wants to be. I know from GRID that HK does have some really nice mountain roads though, so the drifters/touge runners will be happy at least.

Would be cool if they added Macau as an expansion pack down the line and allows you to fly between the two like Oahu/Ibiza. Just hope that the Guia circuit is faithfully modelled unlike the Laguna Seca in The Crew

Edit: just checked google maps, the Gran Turismo 4 HK circuit is located on the mainland part and not the island so we can't drive it here. Boo...

I hope this game will get decent wheel support. So it could become some kind of quasi simcade open world. This is the most important thing for me. Good driving model and nice wheel support something like Driveclub could be good enough.

EDIT: Also lold that this game is PEGI 18. Probably because of casinos in game. But maybe they will finally make a mature story or something without cringe like in The Crew 2 or Forza Horizon.

Everyone that expects to get a TDU3 will be dissapointed. Its not a TDU3 and also from a different studio.

Literally Eden Games is Ivory Tower now?
No, Eden Games are separate. Ivory Tower is a Ubisoft developer I believe, maybe some Eden staff went there I don't know. Ivory Tower make The Crew, so nothing to do with TDU:SC anyway which is being developed by Kylotonn.

It's highly unlikely it'll release as a PEGI 18 game, it's fairly for early trailers to get that rating and the final game to be rated much lower.
