About the course/track maker in GT6 vs Others

Hi, I've been wondering myself about course makers in other games and what are their best features to know what has been done versus what to expect for the GT6? feature...
So I ask you, what other course maker do you know and what do you like about them...
I loved the V-Rally 2 track editor at that time, and I think that if the PSX could do this, the PS3,would be able to do so much more...

Yeah, I think that's what impresses me the most about that V-Rally cpurse maker, it loades in seconds and you decided everything..
corners, elevation changes and then you just selected a location and it made the track in seconds... It was very easy to use, I think even more than the ModNation one... I don't really know what to expect for GT6.... But I definitely think it is possible to do something great!!! Very customizable... I didn't really enjoyed the "generator" in GT5 except for those generated tracks for seasonals and a test track I had made...

It would be nice if we could see just a sneak peek of whatbthey are doing... But then the GTP hype train would.... BOOOOOOOM considering what happened with that Zahara livestream... Hahaha
 
Modnation Races had a proper track creator where players could design track layout in any way they want, adjust elevation changes, camber, add obstacles, shortcuts, etc. It also had a practical system for sharing and searching user-created tracks online. And it had all of that on PS3 back in 2010 before GT5 was released.
 
Judging by that video, I have to ask if maybe you are asking about the possibility of making tracks with insane jumps?

GT5's course maker had that possibility, well, I wouldn't call them insane, but you could often get one decent jump into the mix - trouble was, it usually got combined with a sharp corner.

GT6 is an unknown, as it will be a re-vamped version and not just a copy of GT5s.

I remember the biggest course creator I've seen was in the game Fuel - you could build tracks with laps upto 99.9Km, point-to-point races and share ten of them online (no no longer because Gamespy were in control of the online for that game.) It used every track, road, highway junction in the game to create waypoints which you could select - and there were a lot of those. Definitely the best one I've seen.
 


Dirt Bike 3D had a pretty good track maker. You could control a lot of things to great detail, such as the height and length of jumps, corner sharpness, track width.

Sure, the graphics is a bit so-so, but keep in mind that this was in a time where just the fact that the game was in 3D was a huge selling point...
 
... keep in mind, that it is a very different thing, if a course maker has to work online or offline. r.
 
GT will not have a track editor with ModNation Level of customization. I think its because of the track license.
 
Oh, about the big jumps no, that's just the only video I could find... I know about GT5...

The dirt bike seems alrightand I have yet to taste the one from Fuel...

I don't expect any kind of detail customization like the oone from ModNation...

But as I pointed out... Making an editor that lets you desgn the layout and elevation changes and then apply that to a location... Should be easy... I mean... PSX could do it so, I hope they release it someday and I hope it wont be a larger generator...

If you want a system like that V-rally editor in a more realistic looking game you need something that will create all the connecting terrain too, which isn't impossible but I don't blame them for not going in that direction.

What I mean is in that Vrally track, there should obviously be an enormous cliff face to see after you've gone around the hairpin, but the game doesn't care about how terrain connects up like that because each sector just belongs in its own 'tunnel'.

And yes, a lot of GT tracks, especially the old ones are effectively tunnels all the way around, but I think they want to go for something more open looking.

I think there will be an amount of set locations, like with GT5 which means there will be limiting fctors - essentially you will need to stick to the parameters of the map and not be able to add your own eleveation changes - that is of course speculation on my part, based on what has been said.

There is lso the GPS data transfer feature also, which hopefully will add another dimension to the course creator by rcreating a track based on sets of data from the real world.

Not exactly. GT6 is the only modern sim/arcade sim thats feature course maker. Course licensee obviously doesnt take it too lightly. This is the same reason why cars never go Burnout-like full damaged (GT6 damage model is still bad, though).

That would make it nothing like what we had in GT5 though. GT5 had a track generator, which at the end of the day is a completely different concept to a track editor, which is what you and many others want.

I'm probably gonna be in the minority on this but I loved the idea behind GT5's course maker. It totally worked for me because

1) I'm just not that creative to make great tracks (or replicate real ones!)

2) I find most track editors laborious to use (especially the likes of GP4 Builder and Bob's Track Builder on PC)

3) It can take a lot of time to make tracks from scratch.

So when GT5 gave us a tool that could just generate any number of fun tracks, almost instantly at the push of a button? What a fantastic idea. I really, really hope that when they bring back the course maker (whether that be for GT6 of GT7) they don't remove the ability to auto-generate tracks.

The one track editor that I do love is Modnation Racers', and again because it really simplified the process by letting you make the track by driving it out! Genius idea. And then it could auto-populate all the scenery for you, so you could have a full-blown track made in 5 minutes. It's an amazing concept, it's a shame that there hasn't been another track editor made since that lets you design by driving. Brilliant!

The logical thing to do would be to have a track editor + the option to randomly generate tracks, but since PD & logical don't seem to go well together you never know.

Modnation racers had a really good track editor. Total freedom, easy to use, lots of props, buildings, elements to create a great environment, also the the terrain editor was really complete. I wish PD could give us 20% of what Modnation had...
 
It was said that we could layout tracks freely on the streets of Ronda and its surroundings.
I'm expecting three versions of the course maker.
One will be an updated version of GT5's track generator, with a few more variables to tweak.
The second being a new track maker, where we can make tracks on existing roads in preset environments (like Ronda).
The third is the GPS course maker, using the mobile app.
 
More games worth mentioning:

Project Gotham Racing 3 - there are 4 cities: Tokyo, Las Vegas, New York, London. You can create custom routes within those cities. The area of each city isn't very large but there's a good number of possibilities for circuit & point-to-point tracks.

Midnight Club 3 DUB Edition Remix - similar to PGR3, 4 cities: San Diego, Atlanta, Detroit, Tokyo. You can create custom routes within those cities. Area of each city is larger than the cities in PGR3, and unlike PGR3 there are no barriers to restrict where you go, you place checkpoints, players can take whatever path they want as long as they go through the checkpoints.

Midnight Club Los Angeles - similar to MC3, but 1 large city instead of 4.

That's right appreciate that answer! And everyone else's I alsoa gree with the post about three levels of course maker...

I've got to check the PGR and MC ones... Oh and I miss V-Rally 2 so much...
 
Test Drive 2..? or 3 on PC had an awesome track creator,
you had a number of different terrains, then add bridges, roads that looped upside down, concrete blocks you could add in the middle of the road
