PRIZES

Introduction
I think we have more than enough interest in a new Assetto Corsa Time Attack Challenge to proceed. To reiterate, I'd like to experience a wide variety of cars and tracks, from low to high hp, vintage street to modern race car, small to large track. I'll stick mainly with Kunos content, but might include some user made content and if so, I will include the proper links to the downloads. More than likely the exceptional Barbagallo [link at bottom] track will be in there:sly:. It's small but each corner is tricky in some way and it's very challenging to be consistent. 8 weeks of challenges will take us up close to Christmas and the holiday season and sounds like a good plan to me. I have a feeling RSR is going to reset their leaderboards with the recent v1.3 changes to physics and tire modeling and if so, I will likely include a couple of their "PRO" ranking combinations so I can kill two birds with one stone.

Points:
1 - 20
2 - 17
3 - 15
4 through 17 straightline reduction down to 1 point.
All participants get at least 1 point.
1 bonus point if you set an RSR world record on a leaderboard with at least 100 participants.
Just showing up and finishing consistently will be very rewarding.

How to post a time
You can take a shot with your phone and upload or use Steam to take the picture for you.
  1. When exiting your hotlap session stop at the screen displaying your time.
  2. Press F12 (this is the default Screenshot key) to save a screenshot
  3. Locate the screenshot image which was created after closing the game (screenshots will be saved to the game folder under your username folder in the SteamApps directory).
    Example: C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\<your username>\counter-strike\cstrike

The goal here is mostly fun and participation, sharing ideas and tips and stuff you've learned about the sim and just enjoying some fast paced driving. Don't worry about your times and don't be embarassed if you aren't quite as fast as some of the faster drivers. Guys like @Saidur_Ali or @Aderrrm are the sim racing equivalent of Hamilton or Vettel and you wouldn't be embarassed putting your times up against them would you?:sly:. Compete with someone close to you and with yourself and just enjoy trying to improve and learn:)

On a final note, I know this is a sim and all, but we all have different levels of skill and familiarity with the game. I want to encourage everyone to participate no matter what level they are at and regardless of your outright speed and laptimes. I don't want anyone put down or discouraged in any way from using driving aids of any kind, this is non-negotiable. I will use what suits me, you use what suits you, end of. You can state what aids you used or not, that's fine, I just don't want any criticism or backlash for anyone choosing to use ABS or TC or whatever else is available. Some of the cars in AC can be a real handful on the limit and you should play the game the way you enjoy it the most.

Any rules regarding fuel consumption, mechanical damage, tyre wear and ambient temp?
Thanks Mr Johnny, should be good. These challenges make me try combinations I've never done before.
I think without such challenges, I wouldn't have played Assetto Corsa for a long time but sort of becoming a chore for me now so my performance maybe more like Taki Inoue this time around.

For week 1 we arrive at Vallelunga, an original Assetto Corsa track and the home base of Kunos Simulazioni, the developer of Assetto Corsa. The car is the Lamborghini Countach 5000 Quattro Valvole from the recent Dream Pack 2. Vallelunga is a very technical course, with many low to mid-speed corners and puts a premium on braking and getting the power down out of the low gear hairpins. Good luck!

PRIZES

In an effort to both encourage and reward participation, I'm putting up some small prizes. $CDN75 towards the next DLC for as many DLC packages as it will buy, spread evenly among the top finishers. If the next DLC is $CDN7.50 for example, then the top ten finishers which each receive the next Assetto Corsa DLC content courtesy of me. If it's $11CDN, then the top 6 finishers will receive the DLC. I'll round down the number of winners to the nearest whole user. All prizes are equal for all winners and there are no extra rewards for higher finishing positions. In the event of a tie for the final position, I will add up the total times in all events in which both particpants were active, and the racer with the lowest total aggregate time will win the final prize. The contest is for GTP members only. Cheaters will be immediately disqualified. I reserve the right to disquality anyone for any kind of obstinate or unnecessarily argumentative behaviour in the Time Attack Challenge Thread. Be nice:)

THE CAVEAT - In order to qualify for the prizes, regardless of where you finish, you must have posted a time on at least 4 of the 8 challenges.

Disclaimer: The contest is not formally associated with GTPlanet in any way and the fact that this challenge is conducted on GTP is not in any way an endorsement of the contest or it's participants.

Note: I am excusing myself from qualifying for prizes but will count my points and place myself in the weekly and overall standings.

I left that up to the participants since there's really no way to enforce it. There's a spoiler in the OP about aids, but basically it's wide open. When I check the leaderboards at RSR I see the top of the leaderboards are dominated by people basically using no aids at all. Track temp is probably an advantage but it's available to everyone. I'm going to only be running RSR Pro Settings for consistency on my own part.
I guess only problem is I don't have Dream Pack 2 yet, I wonder if everyone else has bought it on here?
Pretty much everyone on my Steam friend's list has it. If no one here has it, there will be nothing but crickets here for the next week:ouch:

What are those 'settings' ?, maybe we could just keep them for events as a standard ?

EDIT* Nevermind, found them, 26'C & Optimum grip, that's what I was looking for.

EDIT-2* Any tire for Countach ?

I don't want to limit anyone from participating so anyone can use whatever they want. Odds are, if someone needs stabilty control or TC, more than likely they aren't as fast as someone who doesn't need it. I took the liberty of adding Suggested Session Settings to the OP:tup:

But if you want to use them, the "PRO" settings are factory for ABS only, TC, Stability and Slipstream off, Tire Wear, Damage (100%) and Fuel on. There is sometimes a problem with leaving ABS at Factory and it counts it as "on" and disqualifies you from the PRO ranking, so I usually just turn ABS off. The session settings must also be stock. You can scroll down about 80% of the way through this to find more information: http://nkpro.radiators-champ.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=257&Itemid=115

Fuel consumption off is a slight advantage, more of an advantage on longer tracks.

Don't think I've driven on Vallelunga yet, would have been interesting if it was with the other Lamborghini due to this: Link

Hopefully there is a good turnout.

Righto, I'll go first.
This is my first time driving this track, it's actually quite a good technical track, I'm fairly happy with the first 2 sectors but that technical bit at the end throws a bit of a spanner in the works. Anyway, my time:
Vallelunga%201_52_272_zps5w1t7mia.jpg
Congratulations on being first:cheers:

Vallelunga doesn't get as much love in AC as some of the bigger and more famous tracks do, but I've really come to enjoy both it and Magione, especially in the lower and mid-power cars. I will try to put in some laps later today.

I`m loving this car/track combo! 👍 Still learning the track and the times are steadily coming down. So, I will wait until later in the week before I start posting times.

Take note ladies and germs. I added some suggested session settings in the OP but they are just a suggestion. They are the stock session settings so if you don't change your session settings when you go to the track you already have them set and don't need to worry about it. We're talking about things like track temperature, time of day etc. Note they are only suggested since there is no way to enforce them.

I'm not a fan of semi-slicks on street cars, street car = street tires in my opinion, but...

If I did this on street tires, imagine what times I might hit with semi-slicks, later in the week :sly:
I totally agree, but there's no way to enforce tires and I don't want to end up in a situation where people are questioning the lap times of other drivers due to using unknown tires. The car is much more fun on the vintage tires too:sly:

Cool. Will try my best and see what happens. That open tuning though, that’s what’s going to ruin it for me, because I don’t have the time, patience or knowledge for it.

Besides tire pressures there's not a hell of a lot you can do to the Countach. I don't do tuning myself save for trying out posted suggestions so you aren't the only one.

For the most part in AC you can run very competitive times with the stock tunes. You may gain a few tenths with a setup, but you wont be gaining a second or more just from a setup. To me its seems in AC you tune for "comfort" instead of time.

5 laps and the only clean one was 2:00.4. No apexes were harmed, and a few sandcastles were made. :P

Thanks for setting this up @Johnnypenso 👍

Hope to put a couple more hours into it. :gtpflag:
You're welcome;) Did you happen to get a screenshot of the time?

If I get a spare hour or two this week I'll definitely give this a try, looks like fun!

...It's been far too long since I've last played AC... :scared:
With the 1.3 update it's even better:) More information coming from the car from the front and the back and the new, adjustable tire squeal can really help you to determine lockup if you're running without ABS.

I didn't have time to get on all weekend, hopefully tonight.
