History:
The 1954 Alfa Romeo 2000 Sportiva was dreamed up by Alfa's engineers to recreate their 1930s cars. Their goal was to make a 'supercar' with a 2-liter engine that could be driven on the road, or raced on the track. The car used the same space frame chassis of the Disco Volante. The engine was out of a 2-Liter version of the 1900 engine. Bertone was assigned to design the body. Franco Scaglione was commissioned by Bertone to design a lightweight body for the extremely short wheelbase. He designed both a spyder and coupe body. Only 4 cars were ever built (2 coupes, 2 spyders). In a later road test, the car proved very good on the track only to be beaten by the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR and the Ferrari 340. Later, Franco Scaglione said that of all the cars that he designed, this was his favorite.
