That's not what's being reported.

As other experts have noted, this plane is being presented as a gift to the United States as a whole b/c the Department of Defense is accepting it. Except, then it'll be "decommissioned" and given to Trump's Presidential Library. That's not a gift to the United States, and it's another expensive asset tax payers will have to fund for retrofitting and maintaining it in addition to our other two VC-25As when those 2 are perfectly operational.

Then there's this bit of the Constitution many people, including Congress officials, are citing.

Edit* If one really needs any more understanding that this is not a sincere gift, remember this is coming 2 weeks after Trump's company announced a $5.5 billion golf course in Qatar. The developer, Qatari Diar, is owned by the government. Bondi herself, was a paid lobbyist for Qatar, so there's definitely no sign of conflict there validating this "gift".
I like that they're not even bothering with a cover up. And really why bother when conservatives will just go along with whatever he says and the democrats are too spineless to do anything about it.

Actually it was accepted...by Congress...in 1877.

As an side, I have a fun anagram for "Ann Coulter" that I won't be repeating here.

r/conservative already ahead of you.

"This is a fake story by Democrats" -> "He actually deserves it as a shrewd businessman" & "This is America winning b/c it's free".

Not sure who she is, seems like a CINO influencer based on this, but she sure doesn't realize that no one used the Statue of Liberty and its luxuries to travel. OK, there's Ghostbusters II but I think we can disregard that.

Well the Statue of Liberty was a gift to the American people as a whole, the plane was a gift to the orange asshole.
The orange asshole thinks himself as "the American people", so it's the same from his perspective. Regardless, my previous point is still there, this is a national security disaster, even the very existence of entertaining the idea of accepting it should amount to treason.

She's the future of women like Laura Ingraham & Karoline Leavitt. Once Fox News is done peddling your ********, you become a nobody only relevant to MAGA morons & Twitter; see Tucker Carlson for the most recent example.

She's also incredibly mask off about her views, pure pond scum.

So the Matt Gaetz arc is pretty wild. Went from being a member of Congress to Attorney General nominee to being on some kid's podcast with a naked guy beneath him staring up at his crotch.

I mean, this is a normal crash and burn GOP trajectory. It just slightly differs.

Regarding Qatar Force One, this puts it pretty well into perspective of what it would take to make that plane be up to par with the current existing ones:

Short version being, the cost to completely strip down, inspect, then rebuild that 747 to include all the required systems (including but not limited to: armored body and windows, EMP hardening, anti-missile defenses, secure communications, on-board medical bay, and more that we aren't told about) would be more time consuming and expensive than Boeing just building a new one from the ground up, even with their already massively delayed and over-budget timetable.

In other words Trump just wants a shiny new toy to flaunt around in, and should probably think twice about using it to visit any part of the world where shoulder-mounted rockets are easily available.

If he wants to use it for personal reasons, then it's not a gift to America, it's a gift to him. Nobody except him (and Qatar and their friends) benefits from Trump flying around in a plane that may not fully pass security inspection until mid 2026 at the earliest.
