So he's a, presumably, permanent stand in serving under a permanent temp. Are we certain that Trump hires the best people? I'm starting to have doubts.

I would say he hires the best people in terms of supporting his views. And if they disagree he won't listen anyway or just fire them.

Is that how The Apprentice worked?

Conspiratorial and inflammatory comments

Credentials

In Twitter posts and radio-show appearances in 2017 and 2018, Tata repeatedly made the false claim that President Barack Obama was a "Muslim" and a "terrorist leader"; accused Obama of being "an anti-Semite" who wanted to "destroy Israel" and "did not want" to defeat ISIL; and claimed that the negotiation of the multilateral nuclear agreement with Iran was born by Obama's "Islamic roots." Tata accused then-President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama of being "borderline treasonous" during Trump's transition to the presidency. In August 2018, he accused former CIA Director John O. Brennan, a critic of Trump, of being a "clear and present danger" to the U.S. and called Brennan a "communist" on Fox & Friends. He repeatedly pushed the notion that a "deep state cabal" was working to undermine Trump; pushed false conspiracy theories that Brennan ordered the assassination of Trump; and, on another occasion, tweeted at Brennan, "Might be a good time to pick your poison: firing squad, public hanging, life sentence as prison b*tch, or just suck on your pistol." Tata also referred to Islam as "the most oppressive, violent religion"; accused both Obama and former president Bill Clinton of being guilty of "sedition and/or treason"; accused Obama of being a "Manchurian candidate" who supported "Hamas & Muslim brotherhood"; and suggested that "the left" and Obama "hates America." Tata also made various inflammatory Twitter posts attacking Democratic politicians Nancy Pelosi and Maxine Waters as "violent extremists" and using a racist hashtag to criticize CNN journalist Don Lemon.

Tata deleted several of his Twitter posts after they were publicized by CNN in June 2020, following an investigation by Andrew Kaczynski and others.

Trump threatens lawsuit to block mail-in voting in Nevada

President Donald Trump threatened legal action Monday after Nevada’s legislature passed a bill to mail ballots to all active voters, suggesting that the measure would make it impossible for Republicans to win there in November's general election.

“In an illegal late night coup, Nevada’s clubhouse Governor made it impossible for Republicans to win the state,” Trump wrote on Twitter. “Post Office could never handle the Traffic of Mail-In Votes without preparation. Using Covid to steal the state. See you in Court!”

The president’s social media post came after Nevada state lawmakers approved legislation on Sunday to automatically send mail-in ballots to voters. Nevada Gov. Stephen Sisolak, a Democrat, is expected to sign the legislation into law.

Trump has aggressively advocated for in-person voting in recent months even as statelevel election officials move expand mail-in voting amid the coronavirus pandemic, which many fear could be easily spread at polling places.

The president argued in April that mail-in voting “doesn’t work out well for Republicans,” and has repeatedly claimed the ballot-casting practice results in widespread incidents of voter fraud.
Republicans: "Small government. Individual states' rights."

Also Republicans: "As long as we benefit."

Also Republicans: "If you don't think you can win fair and square...CHEAT!"

Here's the actual tweet:

The image in the tweet he quoted reminds me of his inauguration.

Ohhh, looks life one of the rights biggest organizations was full of corrupt, greedy dirtbags. The NY AG is looking to dissolve the NRA after its top leadership was found to have been exploiting their "not for profit" organization for huge monetary gains for themselves, friends and families.

Color me surprised

Looks like the end of the NRA, defenders of the 2nd, perpetrators of corruption.

Does it have any traction or is just something being pushed out by the news to make us think the NRA will go away but really they're not?

It sounds like from the stuff I've seen since it was announced this morning that there were UAW levels of corruption happening, so this is probably going to stick.

Congress couldn't get it done, so Trump did it himself.

He suspended the 6.65% payroll tax.
He extended the federal unemployment supplement, but lowered it from $600 to $400 a week.
He extended student loan payment relief through the end of the year.

Except he has no authority on anything that involves federal funding so there's really only so much he can do/take credit for.

"China virus"

FFS... :banghead:

Why does anyone give this imbecile the time of day...?

So, uh... what authority does he actually have to just stop tax collection? I could how the benefits extension is possible by yanking money from something else, but is this just "Trump signs another executive order that's not worth the paper it's printed on"?

Doesn't look like anyone really wins here.
Trump said the employee portion of the payroll tax would be deferred from Aug. 1 through the end of the year. The move would not directly aid unemployed workers, who do not pay the tax when they are jobless, and employees will need to repay the federal government eventually without an act of Congress, where there is bipartisan opposition on Capitol Hill.

In essence, the deferral is an interest-free loan that would have to be repaid. Trump said he’ll try to get lawmakers to extend it, and the timing would line up with a post-election lame-duck session in which Congress will try to pass government funding bills.

“If I win, I may extend and terminate,” Trump said, repeating a longtime goal but remaining silent on how he’d fund the Medicare and Social Security benefits that the 7% tax on employee income covers. Employers also pay 7.65% of their payrolls into the funds.

Tax payers will still owe the money they're being given a break on, but those who rely on Medicare & Social Security may be wondering where their money comes from.

^ So, If I'm reading this correctly, Trump has basically pledged to screw workers on future tax filings, and has also pledged to cut Social Security and Medicaid?

So... the plan to help people out in a time of financial instability... is to trash social security like they've been trying to do for decades? And then the best case scenario is that we'll all get a huge bill a few months down the road to pay it back? Brilliant.

Defer the issue until later and keep increasing the government debt

Congress couldn't get it done, so Trump did it himself.

Remember when we had six years of Obama issuing executive orders on things because a Republican-controlled congress indiscriminately stonewalled everything he tried to do? Remember how Republicans across the country howled about how unconstitutional that was? About how worried we should all be that he was over-extending presidential power? About how he was a half-step away from becoming a tyrant?

And now you're applauding it. The hypocrisy of the modern Republican is truly something to behold.

For as much as he rails against ‘socialism,’ he seemed all too excited to create an executive order (which inherently draws the line from a constitutional perspective) that is essentially socialist policy. Does anyone else see the irony there?

Maybe more authoritarianism than socialism. Social security is a form of socialism. Killing it would not be socialism.
