Arrange Icons by>Modified

Using XP, opening anything in any program, all of my folders show arranged alphabetically or by type, but I would like it to always be arranged by Modified when I click File>Open. All of these fodlers are arranged by modified if I look through them manually, but when I want to open a file through a program, I have to go through the whole process manually.

I already tried Folder Options>View>Remember each folder's view settings (which is and has always been checked), but nothing changed.

Any help?

Did you mean: once you've opened the folder, right click on the white part, then "arrange icons by" and then "modified"??

It works for me :confused:

I have this problem too. I'm keen to see if there is any way to solve it.

I've tried exactly the steps you mention, and I end up with the same result, so it's not your system or anything like that.

Just another short-coming of Windows?

Let's say I want to open something in Photoshop. I click File>Open, and the box comes up. Right now, the files shown are always arranged alphabetically, or at times by Type, so I have to always click Arrange Icons by>Modified. I do not want to have to click so much, it takes time.

But when I just open My Computer>My Documents, everything's always Arranged by Modified when it opens.

I used to have everything always Arranged by Modified, no matter how I viewed the folder, but now for some reason it's not arranged that way when I want to Open/Save/Send etc.
 
I don't have an XP computer handy so this is all from memory. But here goes...

At the File>Open dialog, choose "Details" (or Detailed?) as your 'View' option. Then arrange your files by 'Date Modified' by clicking the appropriate tab. Hopefully, it will stay that way every time you want to open something.
 
Aah see this is how I thought it would originally fix it. I tried it again just now and it didn't solve anything. Thanks for the try though.
 
I know you can do this in a regular window, but I'm not so sure if you can do this at the File>Open window. But in case it's possible...

Uncheck everything else except for 'Date Modified.' I'm sure there is an easier way, but this might work.

 
Ha. Well that's about all I've got. So it doesn't let you choose details? Or it doesn't let you disable Name, Size, Type, etc.?
 
So I ran into this and I remembered this thread...

You can try this…..

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\BagMRU]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\Bags]

Delete those registry keys and restart windows.

Be sure that you understand how to restore Windows, in the unlikely case that the registry becomes corrupt.

I suppose you can try that, if you're comfortable with the Registry Editor.
