B-spec orders...

Still have not understood this:

If I want my driver to drive faster do I give him the order "pace up" once? And once the order timer is gone is he going back to "medium pace"?

If not, does giving continuously "pace up" orders increasing the amount of pace or it does not matter if you give him just once or ten times the pace up order??

Please someone elighten

The pitting option only becomes available during the endurance races and I think the last race of extreme

I think the first pit option is in Like the Wind but you don't have to use it (in fact if you do you will lose big time as the AI doesn't pit...)

That little Blue and Red Bar under his Name during the Race is basically your way of seeing how he is Feeling .

Blue means he's Chilled out and just loafing along at his own Pace

Middle Part Means he's at Optimuim Pace

Red Means he's Driving Faster

Where it all goes a bit out of the Window is what Tempermant your Driver has , you should knpw that because you picked him

Then there the how Much Experience he has

A Rough Guide (mine)

0-10 He is a Bloody Idiot and needs you to Button Mash your Controller and Babysit him the Entire Race with Pace UP . Maintain PACE and OVERTAKE that Car Dummy , Often

10-15 Life is Easier by now you should be able to not need to Nag him so much but it does depend on the Car he is Driving and the Distance

15-20 Even Less Nagging just the Occasional Prompt to hurry up or Overtake

20 + By now you should have two Bob's as you'll need 2 for one of the Extreme Races

The Experienced Level 20 + Dummy you can leave on Autopilot

The New Dummy will need Watching for a while as he'll get tired quickly

After that its Onto Endurance Racing and you'll need 4 Dummies but not too worry put them in the Fastest thing you have and fall asleep whilst they earn you a pittance or CR but loads of XP for themselves and the onwards slog to the Next Level .

Thanks for your long reply but this does not explain how this order system is designed and supposed to work. The in-game manual is useless.

from personal experience:

- if you leave a driver unattended, he will slow down. This is even true if he had a full lap of pushes. After a while he will slow down, which to me suggests that the commands "wear off" over time. How much, I cannot say.

- if you want to increase speed, tell him to pace up. Do it in sensible situations. If he's in the middle of a corner, he's likely to spin out as he accelerates too early and is yet inexperienced

- if you push him too much, he's going to make mistakes. That suggests that continuous pushed work differently on his strength than occasional pushes with some slow-down pauses

- overtake and "keep pace" I rarely us, really. Sometimes, when he's in a very good position, overtake makes sense but usually he's not able to pass when I want him to

A good way to keep track of how he's doing is the list view. You can see the lap times and also judge how well he's doing compared to the competition. Give it a try.

What I (think to) have figured out so far (B-Spec LVL 22):
That blue-red meter sets the pace. The further the slider is to the right, the faster Bob tries to go. Depending on car, track and Bob's experience he may not be able to go at full pace without making errors.
When issuing a "pace up" command, the slider will start moving to the right for a while. After a "slow down" it will start to move to the left. When no command has been given for a while, the slider will always start to move all the way to the left on its own, leading to the slowest possible pace. "Maintain Pace" will prevent this for a while. So if you need Bob to go a certain pace he needs constant egging on to prevent him from falling asleep.
The speed at which the slider moves seems to depend on Bob's temperament, with cool Bob changing pace more slowly. If the overtake button does anything, in any case it seems not to have much to do with overtaking. ;)

If my Bob gets off the track, he will patiently wait until all cars have passed him before attempting to get back on the track. Is there a way to tell this sad incompetent excuse for a driver where the pedal is and to step on it?

I don't think it really matters if you give the order in a corner, as he seems to react only to slider position which changes quite slowly (with a dozed off cool Bob it can take a whole lap of spamming him with pace up commands until he's back at race speed).

You orders only affect the bar. Press one and watch where the arrow moves to. Once the arrow starts moving back again, your order is no longer in effect and he's doing his own thing. You'll have to repeat it to get the response again.
