I'll not get involved in an argument, but my personal experience is very different than what you are describing about the AI, BigBazz. I agree with Brambos that the AI are a lot more competitive in SU2 than in GT5, and the AI difficulty can be modified, based on your desire. I've also found that if I make a mistake and crash or slip into the kitty litter, I can't win the race. But you still have the incentive to keep going to try to achieve some of the other objectives, as well as earn $ and XP.
Matter of opinion and matter of fact should not be confused.
when you get to faster cars it's ridge racer, yeah!![]()
Matter of opinion and matter of fact should not be confused. Personal experiences will differ and that is life.
Let's put this way , I 'm sure F1 2010 and Ntg2011 physics isn't totally realistic either yet I'm not fighting the controls like I am in Shift 2. Even though the AI maybe a little weak in these examples (including GT5) I do feel it's me vs the AI. In Shift 2 it's more like me vs the wheel. Once I beat "the wheel" the AI is a cakewalk. How can a random guy make a race game more realistic by just making it more difficult, without accurate imput about whether the cars behave like they should.
I just can't put up with the aggressive AI and the faster the cars get less realistic they become.
In Shift 2 it's more like me vs the wheel. Once I beat "the wheel" the AI is a cakewalk.
You keep saying this, but all your incessant ranting tells me is that:
A) You have never played Ridge Racer which, by the way, is an awesome franchise and has always been one of the defining classics on the Playstation platform
B) You have barely played Shift 2, or went in with the preconceived notion that it was going to suck if it was in any way different from the holy grail of driving sims; GT5

Can anyone please tell me what they think of Shift2's rendition of Bathurst?
I got Shift 2 today.
The driving physics are horrible, I really struggle keeping a car straight without it fishtailing around.
Most of us have no problem with the handling at all after the initial learning curve and are having a blast with this game.![]()
On GT5 it feels like the G25 steering wheel is actually connected to something.
Unleashed felt like I was driving a blancmange.
Nuff said... GT5 is a game for years, Shift 2 is a game for weeks.
A counter point to that:
While I won't say that either game (GT5 or Shift 2) "accurately reproduces racing just like in real life", I think Shift gives the impression of accurately reproducing racing.
GT5 does drive better, but real driving is louder and dirtier than GT. I feel like I'm driving a model car on a model track. In shift I feel like I'm driving a (very poorly set-up) real car on a real track that actually get's driven on. Combine that with the number of real tracks in each game, and the car lists in each game and I get a more "playing with toys" feel from GT compared to Shift. That is, in Shift I'm driving a GT race car on an actual track, or a completely reworked, widebody track toy on my local circuit, and in GT5 I'm more often on a fantasy track in a highly tuned but stock looking car. I don't get the "race feel".
Hopefully that makes sense. Basically, even though I know it's less realistic, Shift 2 feels more real. For what it's worth (not much) I do have a license, watch racing as often as possible, I auto-x my GTI and really dislike typical NFS games.
