Hello all,

I've been getting warnings from Safari about some sort of questionable certificate from bluekai (apparently it's adware according to here: https://www.2-spyware.com/remove-tags-bluekai-com-virus.html )

I have no idea if this is the same thing, but I felt like this was something worth reporting, as I've been getting this bluekai thing nowhere but here.

Is there any way to get rid of this?

The good news is that it's not adware and there is no risk for you here. Unfortunately, searching for information on things like this will frequently lead to sites like the one you've linked above, whose primary incentive is usually to get you to download their own "security" software they claim will fix the problem.

In reality, this happens because you're using an older version of Safari which isn't compatible with all of today's security certificates that are used to authenticate your communications with various sites and services. You can fix the issue in various ways:
  • Upgrade MacOS so you can use the latest version (currently High Sierra) of Safari which will be compatible with modern security certificates.
  • Use a different browser, like Chrome or Firefox.
  • Alternatively, you can follow these instructions to always trust that certificate, though I wouldn't recommend this.
As your OS/browser continue to age, you will see this warning message more frequently as other sites and services update their certificates.
