The BMW M3 GT2 is the successor to the highly successful M3 GTR. Based on the new E92 platform, the car features a race tuned version of the road car's 4.0 V8 producing up to 500 BHP. The car made it's motorsport debut in the 2009 American Le Mans Series, where it finished 6th in the GT2 Drivers and 3rd in the GT2 Teams Championships.
As well as being campaigned in the ALMS until 2012, factory efforts of the M3 GT2 were also ran in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and 24 Hours of Nurburgring in 2010, where it won the race overall. The car also run in the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup with some success.
The car was absolutely dominant in the 2011 ALMS Season, gaining a 1-2 finish at the 12 Hours of Sebring and sweeping the GT Manufacture, Teams & Drivers Championships. They contested for one final year, earning another amazing win at the 12 Hours of Sebring once more.
The car was succeeded in 2013 by the BMW Z4 GTE, an LMGTE spec car running alongside the Z4 GT3.
